Back to Love: A New Beginning -
Chapter 136
Chapter 136:.
Not long after, I was dragged into a car.
As the car drove away, I heard Louise’s voice.
“If they try to hurt her, I’ll kill them all!”
Inside the car, I was not tied up or gagged. I was simply left sitting between two men, confident that I could not escape.
“Where are they taking me?” I asked, wary and confused.
Linda’s gigolo, to my left, touched his chin, smiling at me. “What’s the matter, are you afraid? If you’re such a coward, don’t try to be a detective. It’s dangerous, Miss.” I thought about the evidence I had on my phone and held it close.
Moments later, the young man’s phone started ringing.
When he answered the phone, he looked at me and said, “Yes, Mr. Thurman, he’s in my car.”
After hanging up the phone, he went silent. We must have been on the road for over an hour, judging by how long it took. Finally, we got out of the car in a strange place. Obviously, it was not an urban area.
There was an old courtyard in front of me, but the car parked at the gate looked quite luxurious.
“Mr. Thurman, I’ve brought the woman,” the young man shouted at the patio door.
Not a minute later, Layne appeared in the doorway.
Her arms were bare and she wore an apron. He appeared to have been cooking.
To tell the truth, I had never had a good impression of this man.
He looked at me and smiled. He seemed to be in a good mood. “Our guest is here, why don’t you invite her in?”
Since several people had me surrounded, I had to go inside. Thus, I prepared myself for what was about to happen.
The moment Layne returned to the courtyard, I lost sight of him.

The courtyard was quite large. In the center was a large beach umbrella, and under it was a table and some chairs. There was some fruit in the basket on the table.
As soon as I sat down, I felt uncomfortable. That’s when I heard the sound of a car pulling up outside the courtyard.
“Layne, get out!”
As soon as I heard the familiar voice, I looked up and saw Louise entering the courtyard.
Layne’s men showed a respectful attitude toward her.
“Mr. Thurman is cooking right now. Since you have agreed to eat here, he has decided to personally cook for you,” one of the men said.
I was confused, did Louise come to eat here?
Soon after, Louise noticed me. She walked over to me and sat down next to me, patting me on the shoulder.
“You don’t have to worry, Eve. We’ll be fine.” After a while, Layne came out, carrying a well-cooked dish. When he set it on the table, I saw a plate of crayfish that looked really delicious. Layne looked at Louise with loving eyes.
“I’m glad you’re here,” he said. The way he spoke sounded like they were old friends.
Louise scoffed, “I only came because you were threatening me.”
Layne didn’t seem to mind her attitude. He just went back to his room to put on a T-shirt before coming out and sitting down with us.
There was a plate of freshly baked bread. Layne took a piece as soon as he sat down.
From time to time, he would grab food for Louise and even peel some crayfish for her and put it on her plate. His actions caused a stir among his subordinates.
One of them had his sleeves rolled up and a beer in his hand. “Mr. Thurman has never been so considerate of any woman. Have you ever seen him be so kind to a woman?” he asked.
“No, we haven’t,” the others nodded.
Annoyed by their argument, Louise said, “Well, since you assholes have threatened to hurt my friend today, I’ll get even with you someday.”
Layne picked up a bottle of beer and gulped down half of it. Then he set the bottle down hard, looking at the young man who was Linda’s gigolo.
“Ramsey Martel, I told you not to hurt her, did you think I was talking nonsense?”. None of them dared utter a word. It seemed they were all afraid of Layne.
Ramsey seemed to be a shrewd young man. “Mr. Thurman, you misunderstood me. I was just toying with them. I know Louise has some grudge against Linda, so I helped her gather some evidence. If you don’t believe me, here, take a look.”
Then she pulled out her phone and played a video for us. We could all hear the sound coming out of the video, and soon, everyone at the table broke into laughter. Layne was laughing, but Louise and I were not amused.
“Damn! What a bitch!” one of the men said.
Louise glared at Ramsey and asked, “How did you know we were in the parking lot?”
After a moment’s hesitation, she replied, “Linda got a message from your father’s assistant. Your father must have been drunk at the time, so his male assistant was holding his phone and saw the messages. Linda has been having an affair with your father’s assistant for a long time.”
I saw how surprised Louise was. It was obvious she didn’t expect this to happen. She didn’t eat any of the crayfish Layne peeled for her. Then she put down her fork as she looked at him.
“I’m full. You did say we could leave after lunch, didn’t you.”
After a moment of silence, Layne took off his disposable gloves and stood up.
“I’ll drive you home.”
“No, thanks. I’ve driven here, so I plan to drive home too. Besides, you’re a little drunk. Do you want to get into a car accident?” argued Louise.
“Louise seems to care about Mr. Thurman,” joked one of the men. She shot a look at that man and barked, “Shut your mouth or I’ll rip your tongue out.”
I was worried I wouldn’t be able to get out, so I left the yard along with her.
Without delay, Louise started the car once we were both inside.
