Back to Love: A New Beginning -
Chapter 182
Chapter 182:.
When we went to bed, Aaron still hadn’t come home. It seemed to me that he and Charlene were getting along well, and I thought that whenever they talked, they would make a connection.
Later, I was awakened by the sound of an engine. I had no idea what time it was, but I figured Aaron must have come home.
After waiting for a while, he still didn’t come up. Surprised and curious, I got up and went downstairs to check.
He was not in the living room. As I opened the front door, I saw a small ash through the car window. I approached the car and found Aaron smoking in the driver’s seat.
“Why don’t you get in?” I asked him.
He turned his head toward me, looking at me silently for a few seconds, “Let me finish this cigarette first,” he said.
I nodded my head. “Okay. Then you go to your room and get some rest, you hear? You still have to go to work tomorrow.” Having said that, I turned around, intending to go back to my room. However, he grabbed my wrist. I could feel his palm burning, and it wasn’t as gentle as it normally was. My heart skipped a beat. “Walk with me for a while,” Aaron murmured.
“Sure,” I said, causing him to release his grip on my wrist.
I went around to the other side to open the passenger seat door and climbed in.
The windows on both sides of the car were open and the cold breeze was blowing in. To be honest, I was surprised that the car didn’t reek of alcohol, Aaron was still smoking quietly, leaning against the back of his seat. He seemed to have something serious on his mind.
The only visible movement inside the car was the rising smoke, accentuated by the moonlight.
“Have you taken Charlene home?” I asked, breaking our silence.
“Yes.”
After a moment of contemplation, I said, “You know, Charlene’s not so bad. She’s beautiful, competent, straightforward and good-natured. Even though she grew up in a sketchy family, it’s easy to tell that she’s well raised and educated. I think it has to do with her father. The man is a teacher, after all. I think they’re both great, and they’re both single, so maybe…”
“Enough!” expressed Aaron. He had always been a mild-mannered man, but the way he roared at me was so frightening.

Apparently, after realizing his outburst, he softened his tone.
“Look, I know who’s better for me and who’s not. I live my own life, Eveline. There are times when a person’s choice may not be the best, and at other times, the best may not be right for that person. That’s excellent, but it’s not reason enough for me to love her.” I thought he must be thinking about his first love now.
He probably hadn’t forgotten her yet. Aaron was a man she would love for a lifetime. “I’m sorry for being nosy,” I muttered. Aaron laughed helplessly.
“No, I’m the one who should apologize. I was wrong to yell at you. Please don’t take it personally.”
“It’s no big deal,” I replied.
Another gust of wind blew, causing me to flinch and rub my arms. Noticing my reaction, he rolled up the window beside me. That’s when he turned on his car radio, and the song “Encounter” played.
“Hearing the departure of winter, I woke up one day…” The soothing music echoed inside the car, and we listened to it in silence.
The first time I heard this song was in a movie theater. The movie was about a sad love story. At that time, I even cried while watching the movie.
“The worst thing about falling in love is replaceing someone at the wrong time and losing them at the right time,” Aaron murmured as he listened to the song.
I was worried about him, so I tried to comfort him. “You have to let the past be forgotten. Let go of the past and face your new life, Aaron. I firmly believe that she would want you to have a happy life too.” She looked at me and smiled, “You think so?”
To me, his smile seemed kind of silly and naïve. I nodded at him firmly. “Of course.”
“The strangest thing in the world is not meeting the love of your life, but meeting him again.” As he said those words, he stared at me once again, and this time, his eyes were full of passion.
For some reason, the temperature in the cramped space of the car rose. “Eveline, actually, I…” Aaron’s phone rang and cut her off. Before he picked it up, I saw Derek’s name on the screen.
I suddenly felt a little nervous .
