Back to Love: A New Beginning -
Chapter 203
Chapter 203:.
Just as I was about to say something else, Derek came over and kissed me.
I pressed my lips together and tried to push him away, but he wouldn’t budge. Despite my protests, he gently cupped my cheeks and kissed me.
In the end, I could no longer resist his comforting kisses. He slowly pushed me back onto the bed. The coat covering me had already slipped down.
The neat quilt I had ordered this morning was crumpled into a tangled mess. As our kiss deepened and I became a little dizzy, a piercing scream from downstairs attracted our attention. Derek and I were startled. We stopped kissing and took a look at each other.
After helping me get dressed, Derek led me downstairs.
Becky wasn’t in the living room. We turned around and saw her standing in front of the French window, covering her face with one hand, her eyes alight with anger.
“What’s wrong?” asked Derek.
Biting her lower lip, Becky removed her hand from her face and pointed to a corner. “I was kind enough to feed him, but he scratched me.”
I looked at Feo with wide eyes. Feo had been my pet for several years. He was a docile cat who had never attacked anyone. I was glad to see the scratches on Becky’s face. I felt that Feo had gotten even with me.
“The cat ruined my face! It gives me an ugly look!” Becky stomped her foot and looked at Feo as if she wanted to kill him.
Derek pulled the car key out of his pocket and shook it. “We’re going to the hospital. You need to see a doctor.”
We nodded and got in the car. Shortly after we left, my phone rang in my pocket. It was a call from Louise. I knew what she was going to say. I deliberately turned down the volume on the receiver so only I could hear her.
“Eve, how are you getting along with that bitch?”
I was glad I had turned the volume down. Derek was sitting next to me and Becky in the back seat. I couldn’t tell Louise what had happened yesterday, so I cleared my throat and said, “We’re on our way to the hospital now.”
“To the hospital? What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. Just a minor injury.”

“Did you guys get in a fight?” yelled Louise.
“I’m fine. I’ll talk to you later,” I said in a low voice. After hanging up the phone, the car stopped at the traffic signal. Pedestrians hurried across the street.
A woman in her forties trudged across the road. As she approached our car, she stopped, grabbed our car for support and slowly fell down.
Someone shouted, but no one came to help. Everyone fled the scene as if trying to avoid trouble. I sensed something was wrong, so I got out of the car and went to check on him.
Becky and Derek also got out of the car. The woman was lying on the ground, motionless. Becky crossed her arms over her chest, stood beside the woman and examined her.
“Are you trying to blackmail us? You should have picked a better place. It’s a crossroads. There are surveillance cameras everywhere, and there are plenty of witnesses. Stop acting. Get up quickly and stop blocking traffic.”
But I didn’t think the woman was faking it. Besides, this woman didn’t look like someone who made a living blackmailing others because she seemed sophisticated. No one bothered to help her, so I squatted down next to the woman to turn her around.
The woman’s face was pale and her lips had turned purple, as if she was having a sudden heart attack. I asked Derek to call an ambulance while I performed CPR immediately.
Seeing the sudden crowd of people, the traffic police arrived. Understanding the situation, they quickly directed traffic. As we waited for the ambulance, the woman slowly opened her eyes with my help. She looked at me helplessly.
I could tell she wanted to say something, but she had just regained consciousness and did not have the strength to speak. The doctors and nurses placed the woman on the stretcher and put her in the ambulance.
Derek may have thought my injury was more serious, so he accompanied me to the Emergency Department first, and Becky followed.
The doctor advised me to apply the medicine to the wound several times, and that it would take a long time to finish applying it. Therefore, I asked Derek to take Becky to the doctor and decided to join them once he was done.
After the doctor anointed the medicine, I went to meet with them. The doctor said Becky’s injury was not serious and prescribed an ointment to speed up the healing process. But Becky had to sing on stage in front of everyone, so I was worried about her appearance.
She came out of the office, cupping her face with one hand, showing signs of concern. She looked like she was a docile cat who didn’t want anyone to get a look at her face. As soon as we made our way to the staircase, a beautiful woman walked toward us.
