Back to Love: A New Beginning -
Chapter 253
Chapter 253:
The place was located in a remote area, and parking seemed easy. There were cans, plastic bags, and butts strewn everywhere. Homeless people had erected tents to sleep there.
“Where the hell is Derek?”
I didn’t think Derek would come to a place like this. The atmosphere made me uneasy.
Alvaro took the last puff on his cigarette and flicked the butt before shoving his hands in his pockets. Then, he motioned me forward.
“What’s the hurry? You’ll see him soon.”
He entered an old elevator, but I stood outside and refused to get in.
He leaned quietly against the elevator wall, crossed his legs and pressed the button with one hand to stop the door from closing.
“If you don’t get to see him, you can do whatever you want with me.” He looked like he knew where Derek was.
After taking a deep breath, I stepped into the elevator and stood in the corner, keeping a safe distance from him.
He smiled and pressed the basement button.
Soon we reached the basement. Alvaro got out of the elevator first and I followed him.
It was dark here and there was no chance of any sunlight coming in. The concrete floor was a bit damp. The dim lights of the incandescent lamps were the only source of light illuminating the concrete floor.
Every step I took made me nervous. I couldn’t help but wonder if I had made a stupid decision once again.
How could I come to such a strange place with the man who had once kidnapped me? What if he was using me to threaten Derek again?
Just as I was busy analyzing the possibilities, a red wooden door appeared at the end of the hallway. I could hear faint noises from inside.
Alvaro knocked gently on the door. A small square hole in the wooden door opened with a click and I saw someone looking at us. Moments later, the door opened.
“Hello, Alvaro.” The man flashed a flattering smile.
Alvaro patted him on the shoulder in response. I followed him, eyes wide with amazement.
Inside the small door was a huge room. It looked like a hidden subway casino. Bright lights flooded the place. There was a great bustle of people chatting and drinking.
The people inside looked like criminals. If Derek was inside, it would be easy to spot him, but he was nowhere to be seen. I didn’t dare believe he was in a place like this.
Alvaro suddenly stopped and said, “Follow me!”.
Only then did I realize that I was busy thinking and had stopped walking. I moved forward quickly, keeping up with him.
After passing through the large casino, we passed through another door and walked down an even darker hallway. Moments later, I spotted another wooden door at the end of the hallway. However, the door was open.
I squinted and saw a card table inside. Derek was sitting at one end of the gaming table, but I couldn’t recognize the bald man at the other end. I was sure I hadn’t seen him before.
This place was more isolated than the previous casino. Silence pervaded the room; only a few curious onlookers were standing next to the bald man.
Derek was alone, just like the day I was kidnapped.
However, he seemed calm and composed, looking as dominant as ever.
Someone waved to Alvaro and he also waved to the man in acknowledgment. But he was a bit hesitant and didn’t move.
Was it a mistake to come here, would it affect Derek, would it cause him trouble?
But it was too late. Derek turned his head. I saw his expression darken as soon as he saw me. “Why are you here?”
At that moment, I realized I shouldn’t have come here .
