Chapter 255:.

The bald man glanced at Derek’s cards. The original pride and confidence on his face disappeared in an instant.

All his men were surprised. Giving a glance at the cards, Alvaro arched his eyebrows in surprise.

His reaction brought a ray of hope to my heart. After a long moment, the bald man let out a heavy sigh and dropped his cards dejectedly.

“My goodness, how lucky you are! You won the last round.” I was surprised.

Derek won? I couldn’t believe my ears. It was like a dream.

Derek stood up and gave the bald man a look as a faint smile emerged on his lips.

“Sorry I let you down,” the bald man’s mouth twitched. He picked up the usb drive on the table and sighed. “I admit defeat. Take it.”

A man beside him took the usb disk and handed it to Derek.

“I think you know the rules of the underworld,” Derek said as he slipped the usb disk into his pocket. “I don’t want to see another copy.”

The bald man also stood up and smiled coldly.

“Mr. Sullivan, you deserve to be an influential man in Sousen. You are smart and intelligent. Although I’m not as smart as you, I always obey the rules in the underworld, so please don’t look down on me. I will keep my word. You may retire now.”

I didn’t come to my senses until Derek’s warm fingers encircled my hand.

He guided me toward the exit. Just as we were about to leave, two people stepped forward and closed the door.

I became nervous.

Derek’s fingers stroked my palm comfortingly.

Calmly, he turned and looked at the man. “What’s all this?”

The bald man didn’t answer him. However, Alvaro stood up and walked over to us as he clapped his hands dramatically.

“Mr. Sullivan, your game took an unexpected turn at the end, but have you forgotten the agreement between you and me?”

“I’ll keep my word,” Derek replied coolly.

Alvaro nodded. “I trust you, Mr. Sullivan. I know you will keep your word. Just a moment. I’ll ask someone to escort you out.”

Derek hugged me tightly and walked out.

We walked through the dark hallway, through the noisy subway casino, and arrived at the red wooden door. The doorman, who was on the phone, obediently opened the door.

After entering the elevator, we returned to the subway parking garage from the basement.

We climbed into the car and Derek exited the subway parking garage. The fresh air and bustling City traffic brought me back to reality. I couldn’t believe what had happened. It all seemed like a dream. It took me a while to calm down after witnessing the exciting turn of events.

Just then, the car stopped at an intersection.

“Stay away from Alvaro,” Derek said, breaking the silence.

A thousand questions swirled in my mind as I gave him a look. I blinked and thought for a while, but I didn’t know where to start. I looked away from him and took a deep breath.

“I called you many times, but I couldn’t get through to you. I got worried. Alvaro said he knew where you were, so I followed him there.”

Derek glanced off into the distance. After a moment of silence, he said, “Turning off phones is the main rule in an underground casino.”

I told him the outcome of the trial. Derek, however, shrugged indifferently.

“I knew.”

I didn’t know how he knew the outcome despite being in such an out-of-the-way place. Taking a deep breath, I finally plucked up my courage and asked, “Did you really promise Alvaro only a million dollars?”

Derek pulled a cigarette from the cigarette case, bent down and lit it. He hung the hand holding the cigarette out the window, and the smoke drifted back along with the wind.

“Or what?” he said.

I couldn’t guess because I always thought his promise to Alvaro wouldn’t be as simple as giving him a million dollars, but I couldn’t figure anything out.

I had racked my brains for several days, but I couldn’t replace any breakthrough. I seemed to have forgotten that I had told him that I would only feel safe when he was willing to tell me everything. However, since he wasn’t willing to tell me, I didn’t bother to question him further. I was curious about his cards in the last round.

“I think you were very lucky to win the last round,” I said.

Derek looked at me and smiled, “You are so silly and yet so beautiful.” His response blew me away.

I frowned, confused. He smiled mysteriously and waved his hand. Three A cards appeared before my eyes as if by magic.
