Back to Love: A New Beginning -
Chapter 259
Chapter 259:.
“Ask her family to pick her up.” Felix looked irritated, as he scratched his face and pondered what to do about Charlene.
Truth be told, he didn’t know much about her. All he knew was that her mother was Belinda, and that her biological father was a high school teacher.
Considering Charlene was drunk at the time, it wouldn’t be appropriate for either of her parents to pick her up. “I don’t think it’s a good idea to ask her family to pick her up. Let’s get her a hotel room,” I suggested.
“You know what, there’s no one else at my house. Let’s take her there.” Louise replied.
Soon after, we decided to follow Louise’s idea. Louise and I stood on either side of Charlene, placed one of the drunk woman’s arms around each of our shoulders and helped her out of the bar. Charlene kept screaming the whole time, and passersby were giving us the stunned look on their faces.
Luckily, Louise and I were women. If we were men, people would surely assume we were planning to molest a drunk woman.
Soon we arrived at Louise’s house and threw Charlene on the couch, and she promptly fell asleep.
Louise and I were so exhausted that we sat on the floor. Moments later, Derek called me.
Louise told me not to go home tonight. I thought it would be troublesome for Louise to take care of Charlene alone, so I told my dear husband the situation and said I would stay at Louise’s house for the night.
In the middle of the night, Louise and I heard a noise coming from the living room. We got up at the same time. As soon as I turned on the living room lights, I saw Charlene leaning on the couch with her hand dropped to the side. There was a glass on the floor and it had broken.
As we hurried to her side, Charlene saw us and apologized, “I’m sorry. I wanted to drink some water, but I broke the glass by accident.”
With her hands in the air, Louise just shook her head and smiled helplessly.
“It’s okay. I’m glad you’re okay,” she said.
Then, I poured Charlene a glass of water. She had a hard time getting up, so I helped her sit up.
After gulping down the water, she thanked me as she handed me back the empty glass. Her hair was disheveled and she kept tapping her forehead, telling us she had a migraine.

“You were really drunk. Of course you had a headache,” Louise said.
“Where am I, by the way?” asked Charlene.
“You’re at my house,” Louise replied. Charlene laughed awkwardly, apparently embarrassed by what had happened.
“I’m sorry to have bothered you, Louise.”
Louise laughed as well. “No, it’s no big deal. You’re miserable, so I decided to help.”
As she fiddled with her hair, a wry smile appeared on Charlene’s lips.
Louise and I sat on either side of her. After a while, she raised her head and said, “You know, I’ve always had high self-esteem and self-respect. I had big dreams. While others were out partying in bars and clubs at night, I was studying. And when others were playing games, watching movies, I was still studying. Even as I watched other students falling in love, I was concentrating on my studies. I have always been a diligent student, and a good girl. I had never acted so hedonistic.”
Neither Louise nor I could utter a word, so we just listened to Charlene’s story in silence.
“At the age when my peers were courting and falling in love, I still didn’t care about love. Aaron is the first man I ever loved. Honestly, why do I like him? I admit he’s an excellent man, but there are many others like him out there. But despite that, I still like him. There’s no apparent reason for it.”
Perhaps there is no reason for one to like another. It seemed that people could simply feel that they had fallen in love with someone.
“I’ve already told him that even if I like him, he doesn’t have to reciprocate. I’ve always been proud of myself, so I refuse to beg for love. I don’t want that old fox to take my virginity.” Having said all this, Charlene buried her face on her legs in an attempt to hide her expression.
