Chapter 272:

The next morning, when I opened the front door of the villa, I saw a pile of beer cans and a man lying on our doorstep.

It was Felix, and he was in a pathetic state. His clothes were thin, so he was huddled together for warmth. It was very cold and it was possible he might get sick if he stayed here any longer.

I hurried to wake him up. He opened his eyes and slowly sat up when he saw me. His hair was tangled. Half of his face, including the corners of his lips, was bruised and swollen. Right now, he gave no more of himself than a beggar.

“Why are you here?” I asked him.

Felix scratched his hair. It was already a tangled mess to begin with, and now it was even messier.

“I wanted to have a drink with my good friend, Derek. But when I got to the door, I realized I was too late. Since I’m single, I can do whatever I want. But he has a wife, so he’s not as free as I am. Besides, he has that disease in his stomach, doesn’t he? You certainly don’t let him drink, so I thought I’d be the only one who could drink all these cans of beer here.”

Then, he pointed to the empty beer cans lying on the floor. I could tell he was in a lot of pain over losing Louise.

For a moment, he wasn’t sure what he was going to say to her.

“Where is Louise? Tell me.” Felix gave me a look with determined eyes. In fact

In fact, he hadn’t contacted Louise in two days. So, I shook my head in response. Felix’s head dropped as he picked up an empty beer can and crushed it flat in his hand. As he did so, his face was distorted with pain and frustration.

“I’ve looked everywhere I could have gone, but I couldn’t replace her. I can’t even get through on her phone. She seems to have made up her mind. She doesn’t want to see me again.”

I felt really bad to see Felix stoop so low. I remembered how happy he was when he proposed to Louise, and how happy it made her. Back then, I never would have imagined that things would end up like this.

“You can’t live without a woman? Jesus, Felix! Look in the mirror – you’ve gone downhill, man!” I heard Derek’s voice from behind me.

I stepped aside as he walked out and stood next to Felix. Sitting on the ground, Felix took a look at him and saw the wound on his head.

“What happened to your head, did you guys get in a fight or something?”. Derek and I took a look at each other and neither of us said a word.

Felix looked at me and Derek, a moment later, a bitter smile appeared on his lips.

“Eveline is not Louise, how could she pick a fight with you? Right now they have a happy, loving relationship. You wouldn’t say that if you were in my place, Derek. I’d give up everything just to get her to come back to me and fight with me,” said Felix.

I couldn’t bear to see him like that any longer, so I told him I would call Louise to ask her whereabouts.

Hearing what I said, Felix’s eyes lit up. He jumped up and gave me a look with all the hope he could muster.

But to his disappointment, Louise’s phone was switched off. Truth be told, I already had an idea where she might be. Most likely she was with Layne right now. But I didn’t dare say. If I did, I had enough reason to believe Felix might do something stupid again.

For a long time, Felix just sat there in the doorway. I had already prepared breakfast for him, but he still refused to come in, let alone eat.

Finally, Derek had enough of his moping and dragged Felix to the car. Shortly after they left, my phone rang. It was an unknown number.

“Eve, it’s me.” Hearing Louise’s voice, I brightened.

“Lulu, have you changed your phone number?” I asked.

“No, this is Layne’s number,” she replied.

So she was right. She really was with Layne, huh? It had only been a few days. How far had their relationship gone? Honestly, he’d rather not guess.

“Eve, I’m getting married.” After getting her current location, I hung up and hurried over to Louise.
