Back to Love: A New Beginning -
Chapter 276
Chapter 276:.
I hadn’t expected that the land Derek had given Alvaro would be the one right next to Villa Flash.
“What do you plan to build there?” I asked.
The cold winter air was blowing into the car, but Alvaro seemed to be enjoying the warmth of a sunny spring day.
“A cemetery,” he said.
I was so surprised that my mouth dropped open. Now I understood why Gifford was so angry. Villa Flash was a tourist attraction. If someone built a cemetery next to it, it could affect the commercial operations of the villa.
“But why?” I asked, visibly puzzled.
Alvaro leaned against the back of his seat and took a puff on his cigarette. “Because I want to,” he replied with a smirk.
I was speechless. It was easy to tell he was only doing it to get back at the Sullivan Family. But… Derek knew what Alvaro planned to do with the land, and yet he still gave it to him. Did that mean Alvaro’s target for revenge was just Gifford?
Alvaro and I stood there for a while, and a few minutes later he walked away from that land. After a long silence, he turned his head toward me and asked, “Can you do me a favor?”
He seemed sincere enough, but I had to be cautious with this man. Alvaro was a person who did not play by common sense. To me, I got the feeling that he was always setting traps and was lying in wait for others to fall into them.
“What do you want?” I asked, suspicious of his intentions.
He put his fist in front of his mouth and cleared his throat. For some reason, he seemed a little embarrassed.
“My grandmother is angry with me. It’s been a long time since I’ve visited her. But now she’s very old and I want to see her. I’d better take someone, because my grandmother won’t scold me in front of a guest,” he said.
“No way I’m going with you,” I said without a second thought.
Alvaro looked at me. A faint smile appeared on his lips as he commanded, “You have to go.”
Was that really how he was asking for help? I told him to let me out of the car, but he didn’t budge.

Once again, I asked him to let me out. And only then did he finally pay attention to me, albeit a little reluctantly.
“What’s the hurry? We’re almost there.”
Right after he said that, he took a sharp turn. The car drove into a village and finally stopped at the entrance to a farmhouse.
“Get out,” he ordered me.
Reluctantly, I got out of the car and followed him into the farmhouse.
The gate to the yard was open and there was a woman in her 70s sitting under the eaves. At the sound of footsteps, she raised her head and pushed up her glasses, giving us a thoughtful look.
“Alvaro! I thought you’d never come by here again,” she said disdainfully.
Alvaro was right. The old woman was angry with him. She stepped forward a few paces, putting on a polite smile. “Grandma, we have a guest, see, be nice, please.”
After saying that, Mrs. Barton gave me a look. “Who is she?” she asked.
To my surprise, Alvaro grabbed my hand and declared, “She’s my girlfriend, Eveline.”
“What the hell are you talking about?” I glared at him and tried to shake off his hand.
However, he held my hand tightly and whispered in a voice only I could hear, “My grandmother has been waiting for me to bring her a girlfriend. Look, I just want her to be happy. Do me this favor. I beg you.” Despite what he said, I glared at him.
Mrs. Barton’s eyes lit up. She immediately put down the needlework in her hand and gestured to me.
“Come here, Eveline. Come here, my dear. Let me take a good look at you.” I didn’t feel like seeing a disappointed old woman, so I acceded to her request and slowly approached her side.
The old lady took me by the hand and asked me a lot of personal questions. She took pity on me when she learned that my parents had passed away.
It wasn’t until Alvaro noticed my tiredness from answering all the questions that he picked me up and said, “Grandma, enough talking. Now we’re really hungry.”
That’s when his grandmother came to her senses, got up and went to the kitchen to fix something to eat.
When she left, I said to Alvaro, “Tell your grandmother the truth. I’m leaving now, and you can’t stop me.”
Having said that, I turned around, ready to leave. However, he grabbed my wrist and looked me in the eyes. I could see the sincerity and determination in his eyes.
“We can leave after we eat. I’ve never seen my grandmother so happy, do you really have the heart to hurt her like that?”
I really didn’t want to break a sweet old lady’s heart, so I decided to stay and eat, at least.
