Chapter 3:.

The place we were headed to wasn’t that far away. It was a resort town called Tonyin. It took two hours to get there from the city center.

The guest accommodations were quite peculiar. They were detached wooden houses built in the countryside. Shane chose a remote log cabin next to the mountain, saying it must be peaceful to be there.

When he opened the trunk of the car to get our luggage, I noticed that inside was a surgery kit.

So, I looked at him, confused.

“You’re pregnant. Taking you out for a walk will be risky, don’t you think too? That’s why I packed these things,” Shane explained to me.

Once our luggage was sorted, we headed off to various scenic spots in Tonyin.

Because of my pregnancy, my walking was slow and, fortunately for me, he was in no hurry. I was surprised how he slowed down to attend to me, and he did not forget to help me when we climbed the mountain.

The way he spoke and behaved indicated that he was a good husband. It made me think that maybe I had been too suspicious of him about what happened in the studio. Maybe he was just looking to get off on having video sex with an online friend.

Halfway up the mountain, I had exhausted myself, so I sat down in a pavilion to rest.

At that point, Shane pointed out a few trees by the edge of the mountain, saying the scenery was picturesque. He suggested that he wanted to take pictures of me there.

So, I stood next to a tree. He told me the angle wasn’t right, so I took a few steps back following his instructions. Not a second later, I accidentally slipped and rolled down the mountain.

Thinking of the child I was carrying in my belly, I felt a strong desire to survive. After rolling several circles down, I managed to grab hold of a tree.

Although I did not die, I could feel the pain coming from my lower abdomen. Soon I was covered in beads of sweat. But even then, I refused to let go of the tree.

I had a bad feeling that the child in my belly was in danger.

After a while, many tourists and some employees of the place rushed to help me. They came from everywhere, visibly frightened.

“I’m her husband!” shouted Shane. “And an obstetrician,” he added.

Then, he pushed through the crowd, lifted me up and ran down the mountain.

I held tightly to his clothes and said in a weak voice, “Honey, do what you can to save our son.”

As he ran quickly, looking at the path ahead of him, he said, “I will.”

But, unfortunately, in the end my son was lost. It was an emergency at the time, so Shane had to give me induced labor.

When I woke up, it was already dark and my husband was not by my side.

I checked my phone and saw that it was already after ten o’clock at night.

I wondered where Shane could have gone at this time of night.

I got out of bed, intending to look for him. But when I got to the door, I heard someone talking outside.

“He got lucky this time. But don’t worry. The baby’s gone.” It was Shane’s voice.

His words were like a lightning bolt, shaking me to my core.

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Truth be told, I didn’t want to admit it was true.

I staggered backward, barely keeping myself standing against the wall.

I bit the back of my hand, trying to avoid making a single noise.

However, I couldn’t stop my tears from falling again.

It turned out that I had fallen into the trap he had set for me.

And it turned out that the man I had been married to for two whole years, a supposed angel, was actually a demon incarnate.

I was wrong about so many things. I should never have made myself believe such fantasies.

Frightened and stunned, I went back to bed, pretending to be asleep.

Because I knew that at that moment I didn’t have the strength to fight him head on.

After a while, Shane came in and stood next to me. After confirming that I was asleep, he turned around and left.

The moment he left the room, I immediately got out of bed, running to the window to take a look outside.

Slowly, my husband’s demon vanished into the night. What caught my attention most was the black plastic bag he was carrying.

For some reason, my instinct told me I should follow him.
