Back to Love: A New Beginning -
Chapter 312
Chapter 312:
After thirty minutes, Louise finally woke up. When she first opened her eyes, she was slightly puzzled.
“Eve, am I still alive?” she asked wearily.
I felt for her, but it was also a little comical.
“It was just a little routine operation. It won’t take your life.”
When Layne heard her voice from where he was sitting, not far from her, he immediately ran to her side and touched her face tenderly.
He told her gently, but with a tone of assertive confidence, “Don’t worry. As long as I am here, the God of Death will not dare to take you away.” Louise smiled weakly at him.
When she turned on the bed and saw Derek, she immediately reached out and pushed me away.
“Eve, you can go home now. It’s really late. I’m fine. I don’t need you to stay with me any longer,” he said thoughtfully.
Although she stood up with a tired feeling and her voice was still weak, it was evident that she was quite a bit better.
“I’ll come visit you again tomorrow,” I told him.
By the time we got home, it was already one o’clock in the morning.
The next day, Derek dropped me off at the hospital gate before going to the company. I saw Layne coming out of the elevator. He told me he was going to buy breakfast.
As soon as I entered the room, I noticed that another figure had sneaked in stealthily and quickly behind me. When I turned to see who it was, I found Felix. He was standing a few feet away from the bed and watching Louise lying on the bed with a steady gaze. It seemed that he either didn’t dare approach her or he knew he had no right to do so. Whatever the case, he merely watched her from afar.
Louise was awake and also gave him a glance. They were both speechless. She had probably walked in at that opportune moment when she saw Layne had left. The feeling that he had walked in at the worst possible moment suddenly washed away.
“I…I’m going to go out for a walk,” I said cautiously. Then I turned to leave the room.
“No, Eve. Come here.” Louise stopped me in my tracks.
I turned again and approached her slowly.

Felix stood still as a statue for an inordinate amount of time. He looked like he had to work up the courage before approaching the bed.
“How do you feel after the operation?” he asked calmly.
Louise lowered her head and didn’t look him in the eye.
“I’m fine. But the incision is a little painful.” Then they both fell back into an awkward and uncomfortable silence.
Suddenly, Louise smiled and said, “Actually, I feel a slight pain in my abdomen. I wonder if the doctor left any surgical instruments in there when he operated on me.” Her joke broke the ice.
Felix bit his lower lip and turned his face away. He wanted to laugh, but tried to hold back. Finally, he couldn’t help himself and let out a short laugh.
“You must be lucky enough to win the lottery for what you said to happen. You think very highly of yourself.”
Louise and I exchanged knowing glances and smiled at the same time. After a while, the doctor came to see Louise. She told him that she was still having some pain and discomfort in the abdominal area.
The doctor asked her to tell him exactly where in her abdomen it hurt and made a first diagnosis.
“A likely cause is inflammation of your uterus. I’m going to give you a prescription, and you’ll also have a transvaginal ultrasound a little later,” the doctor advised her.
When Louise heard those words, she instantly flushed pink. She lowered her head and whispered softly, “I won’t do it.”
The doctor paused and explained the options.
“In general, the result of that test is much more accurate and conclusive than a regular B Ultrasound. Single women usually opt for a regular B Ultrasound. You are married, aren’t you? Excuse me, but that would mean that you are not a virgin, wouldn’t it?”.
The doctor seemed to have forgotten that there was a man beside her. His question was too direct under the circumstances. Louise blushed.
Felix stared at Louise, anxiously awaiting her answer. There was a slight tinge of hope in his eyes.
Louise lowered her head and mumbled sheepishly, “Yes, well, I’m actually a virgin.”
There are no words to describe how shocked she was at that moment. The doctor was also quite surprised. A reason for this came to his mind and he gave Louise a sympathetic glance.
“I see,” the doctor replied.
It seemed that the doctor had perhaps come to the conclusion that her husband must be having trouble in bed.
When Felix heard this, his expression was a mixture of surprise and excitement. However, he soon got his emotions under control and calmed down.
Layne had just gone out to buy breakfast and would be back shortly. Without further ado, Felix said to Louise, “Take care of yourself.” She still couldn’t go on.
