Chapter 35:.

Felix and Louise were still arguing, while Derek was strangely quiet now.

He was lying on the grass with one leg bent, one hand under his head and the other holding a can of beer. Then he stared up at the night sky in impassive silence. I couldn’t tell what he was thinking.

Moments later, they began to play cards. Felix dragged Derek over to the others and invited him to join them.

This time, they didn’t play for money, but for shots of liquor.

For some reason, Derek seemed distracted at the moment. He had a blank stare. He had already had a lot to drink a while ago, and now he was downing can after can.

The pile of empty cans on the grass was steadily increasing.

Soon I began to get bored. I never enjoyed watching them play cards, so I sat off to the side, yawning. Suddenly, Derek turned around and said to me, “If you’re sleepy, you can go to sleep first.”

Felix looked at me and laughed, “What’s the matter Miss, can’t you go to sleep without Derek around?”. Everyone burst out laughing.

My face turned red as I turned around and walked into the tent.

I had no idea how long I had been lying down. Every now and then, I could hear them laughing and cursing at each other. Gradually, I drifted off to sleep. It made me think they would stay up all night.

I had no idea when I fell asleep. Dazed, I heard some noises and smelled a strong odor of alcohol.

The moment I opened my eyes, I saw that the light inside the tent was still on and there were several critters approaching it.

I turned my head and saw that Derek was lying on his side. His arm was covering his eyes and his chest was heaving heavily. He seemed to have fallen asleep.

However, I noticed that the comforter was only over my body. I was not covered at all.

It was very cold on top of the mountain. If I kept sleeping like this, I would surely catch a cold.

I sat up and tucked him under the comforter. As I was about to pull his hand away, he suddenly grabbed my hand and stared at me with unblinking eyes.

His gaze made me nervous. I tried to pull my hand away, but he held it even tighter. Suddenly, he turned around and pressed me under his body. “What are you doing?” my heart skipped a beat.

His eyes burned with desire and his deep, husky voice was so sexy. “I want to be with you!”

I was so stunned that I felt like my brain had exploded.

From his level of inebriation, it seemed I had lost all rationality. Suddenly, he started kissing me wildly, and the strong smell of alcohol reached my mouth.

“Derek, don’t do it!” I pleaded with a trembling voice.

But considering the situation, I didn’t dare to shout too loudly. If I did and the others came to check what was going on, I would be the one who would end up feeling embarrassed.

It seemed I couldn’t wait any longer. His muscular body felt hotter than mine.

Inside our silent tent, his murky breath sprayed in my ears, leaving me weaker by the second.

After a long time, he finally fell asleep next to me. As he slept, he hugged me from time to time and rubbed his head against the back of my neck.

“Happy birthday,” he suddenly murmured.

That’s when all the fire I felt in my body dissipated, and I felt as if a large basin of ice water had been poured over my head.

Today wasn’t my birthday, so he obviously wasn’t telling me that.

So he did all this to me without knowing who I was?

It was hard to describe how I felt at that moment. Maybe I was disappointed and discouraged.

Moments later, I heard the sound of steady breathing behind me.

I brushed my arm off, straightened up, and walked out of the tent.

At this point, the observation deck was quiet. Everyone else was asleep, and I could hear random snoring from one of the tents.

I grabbed Derek’s bike and rode it down the path we had used to get here.

I had barely learned to ride a bike, so it was still scary to ride downhill on such a dark road. But what I was most afraid of was facing Derek when he woke up.

The road was too dark to see clearly, and going downhill made me speed up. The wind blurred my vision as tears welled up in my eyes. Panicking, I lost control of the bike.

Fearing I was going off a cliff, I slammed on the brakes and fell off the bike.

My knees and arms scraped against the rough ground, and the bike hit my leg as I fell.

I tried to get up, but discovered that my ankle was twisted. I couldn’t even get up.

This scene was similar to my situation then. Once again, I was covered with wounds on a mountainside in the middle of the night.

It seemed that I could never escape the cruel mood of fate. Every time I felt that happiness was at hand, reality slapped me in the face. I wondered why this was happening to me.
