Back to Love: A New Beginning -
Chapter 360
Chapter 360:.
“Eveline, what’s wrong?” Charlene realized she had been standing by the window for a long time.
“There’s a person outside,” I said.
Both Charlene and Kevin got up and walked over to the window as well. After glancing outside, she went to the door, opened it and ran out.
I watched her brave the heavy snowfall and drag that man into the house. I admired her act of kindness when I saw what she did. I thought she was helping the homeless man. But when I saw who the person she carried into the house was, my eyes widened.
It was Lean.
We had no idea how long he had been there. But judging by how covered in snow his hair and clothes were, he had been there a long time. He had kept his head down since Charlene dragged him in.
Unlike his usual arrogance, he looked a little embarrassed.
Then, he saw that Aaron and I were here too. Naturally, he was curious as to what we were doing here.
“You, why didn’t you come in? It’s too cold outside,” Kevin said in a gentle tone.
Just as he had said earlier, even though Lean wasn’t his son, he wasn’t going to hate him just because of what Gifford and Belinda had done.
Silently, Lean scratched his hair irritably, causing the snowflakes in his hair to fall.
Kevin pointed to the couch.
“Have a seat, boy.”
Lean, however, remained pinned in place.
Annoyed, Charlene practically dragged him over to the couch. That’s when he obediently sat down.
“You haven’t eaten yet, have you? Charlene, could you be a doll and get your brother the silverware and a bowl?” ordered Kevin.

Charlene did as she was told and handed them to Lean.
From time to time, Lean would shoot curious glances at me and Aaron.
Noticing Lean’s stare, Kevin pointed to Aaron. “This is Charlene’s boyfriend, Aaron.”
Then, he looked at me and said, “Eveline, you don’t need me to introduce you, do you?”.
Lean looked surprised at what he had heard. With a questioning look, he pointed to Charlene and Aaron. “You two are together, how long have you been together, and why didn’t I know that?”
After swallowing the food in her mouth, Charlene rolled her eyes.
“Am I under any obligation to inform you about my relationships?”
“Not really.” Lean laughed.
Kevin picked up an empty bowl and scooped some peppercorns out of the paste. As he did so, he said, “I seem to remember you never liked peppercorns as a kid, Lean.”
Lean froze as he watched Kevin remove the peppercorns one by one. Judging by his face, I could tell he was moved.
I guessed that this was the kind of genuine affection he never received from Gifford. Although Gifford always coddled him, he probably felt very differently.
Kevin’s tender affection was simplistic and focused on the little things. Although his actions were ordinary, they were more real and touching than the money and material objects Gifford provided Lean.
The sound of fireworks could be heard outside, and we were gathered around a small table and eating merrily. This must have been what a family reunion dinner was like.
I noticed that Lean was much more docile in front of Kevin than he was in the Sullivan Family. Maybe everyone had a different side, and showed a different side in front of people. Around someone as gentle as Kevin, Lean had hidden all his arrogance.
Later, Kevin told us funny stories about his students. The rest of us began to reminisce about the fondest memories of our school days.
As I recounted my time at school, I unconsciously looked at Aaron, but I didn’t expect him to look at me at the same time. When our gazes met, we read each other’s minds. We both smiled at the same time. A few seconds later, we looked away from each other.
Kevin told us a lot about Lean’s childhood. When he talked about the story of how little Lean got stung by bees while trying to destroy a beehive, Lean laughed so hard he fell backwards on the couch.
“Lean, why are your pants torn?” asked Charlene bluntly in front of everyone.
Hearing her question, everyone took a look at Lean’s pants. He immediately sat up and covered his crotch. I couldn’t help but laugh at his reaction.
