Chapter 423:

“What’s going on, why did you bring me here?” I asked him.

He stopped the car in front of a villa and smiled at me.

“This is my house. You’re pregnant, so you shouldn’t eat in restaurants. Home cooking is the best. I have food, so I’m going to cook for you.”

When we entered the house, she asked me to sit on the couch and rest. Then, she went to the kitchen. I took a look around her house. The decor and style were similar to her house in Sousen. My attention was drawn to a book on the clear glass coffee table. On the cover it said ‘Recipes for Pregnant Women’. There were pen marks on different parts of the book and some pages were folded.

I heard water running and the clatter of dishes in the kitchen. I got up and headed for the kitchen. Alvaro was bent over the counter, rolling up his sleeves, as he washed the tent. I leaned against the kitchen door and couldn’t take my eyes off him.

Seeing him like that brought back memories of the past. Derek was cutting fish in the kitchen with his sleeves rolled up. It felt like the air had stopped flowing. I didn’t know that something as simple as cooking looked beautiful when Derek was cooking.

It happened a year ago, but the memory was vivid even now. It wasn’t love at first sight. But his charm won me over little by little. I remembered how I felt when he was around.

“Are you attracted again?” Alvaro’s teasing words brought me back to reality.

He was putting the carp in the pan with oil. After frying it on one side, he quickly flipped it over.

Alvaro didn’t even know how to cook eggs, but now he was cooking like a chef. After a while, he put several plates on the table. My eyes widened when I saw the cruciana soup, steamed eggs with clams, celery, shrimp and fried broccoli. I couldn’t help but smile as I remembered that I had bookmarked these recipes.

After eating, I sat down on the couch to rest. Alvaro did the dishes and sat down next to me.

He took out a cigarette. After a moment’s hesitation, however, he put it down, leaned back on the couch and turned on the TV.

“Wouldn’t it be inconvenient for you to continue living at Doctor Swain’s house?”. He was right. She was going to give birth to twins, and it might be problematic for him.

“Well, can you help me replace an apartment? I’ll move in as soon as I replace a suitable one. I’m not looking for anything too big. A small, cozy apartment with affordable rent would be enough.”

“You can live here and I won’t charge you rent,” he offered.

Your adventure awaits at gαℓησν𝒆𝓁s․c〇m

“No,” I replied sharply.

He examined my face for a while and said, “Then I’ll charge rent.”

I looked at him and shook my head. “No.”

The next moment, he stood up and pinned me to the couch.

“What are you doing?” I looked at him nervously. Even though I got along with him, his volatile temper scared me.

He tightened his arms on either side of my body and stared into my eyes. He looked sad.

I swallowed saliva as his gaze shifted from my belly to my face.

“Why are you nervous? You’re pregnant, what can I do to you?”

“Walk away. Stop it.” I pushed him away and he sat back down on the couch.

In fact, Alvaro never hid his thoughts. He was a frank but strange man. I understood what he wanted, but he always pretended not to. I swallowed saliva and leaned back on the couch as discomfort filled the air.
