With his hands in his pockets, Alvaro walked towards me with a lollipop in his mouth. He was a famous character in Chinston. Therefore, all the journalists knew him. So when he admitted that he was the father of my son, the reporters immediately surrounded him for further questioning.

Upon hearing that, Mandy stood up as if she had seen a ghost and looked at him in disbelief.

“Mr. Barton, really, Miss Stone is pregnant by you? Have you secretly married her?”

Alvaro smiled at the inquisitive reporters and grabbed my hand as if declaring himself my master.

“Yes. I’ve even quit smoking for my son,” Alvaro said thoughtfully.

Hearing this, Mandy angrily kicked the car. Then she opened the door, got in and drove off. The reporters wanted to ask more questions, but Alvaro put his arm around my shoulder and smiled at them.

“Well, that’s all for today. My wife is tired. I don’t want you to bother her anymore.”

As soon as we disappeared from the journalists’ sight, I got rid of Alvaro’s hand and glared at him.

“Why are you looking at me like that?” he asked, although I knew the answer.

“Why did you say that? You’ve created a big misunderstanding.”

“If you don’t tell the truth, no one will know it’s a misunderstanding,” he shrugged indifferently. “Besides, if I hadn’t said that, how would you have answered his question, what would the reporters write?”

I went back to my office and sat down dejectedly. Alvaro followed me.

“I’m sorry I said it without asking you,” he said quietly. “Let’s drop the subject-have you thought about who might have splattered the paint on the door?”

I looked at him and sighed. “I’m afraid I have to ask you that question. If I’m not mistaken, it was probably your romantic affair that got me into trouble.”

He frowned as he parsed my words.

“Wow, you have so many romantic affairs that you can’t even tell who did it,” I joked.

“Bullshit!” he cursed. “I’m a decent man who doesn’t go around fooling around with random women. However, considering my attractiveness and charm, women tend to chase me. It’s strange, but you’re the only woman who hates me.” I burst out laughing.

“I don’t detest you. I know you are a treasure and that many women covet you. How could I detest you? Judging from what happened today, it’s easy to tell how powerful those women are. So you’d better stay away from me. I have enough enemies already and I don’t want women to loathe me because of you.”

Alvaro leaned closer to me and let out a chuckle.

“Now all the people in Chinston think you are pregnant with my child. If you want me to stay away from you, everyone will start calling me unfaithful.”

I rolled my eyes. After all, he was shameless.

A few days later, I was reviewing information on the potential franchises presented from various cities. By the time I finished reading the entire document, it was already dark.

I turned off the computer and left the office, exhausted. Ady was waiting for me.

After driving for a while, she stopped the car.

“What’s wrong?” I asked her.

“I feel like something is wrong. I’ll get out and take a look.” She got out of the car and I followed her.

“Flat tire,” Ady said.

I looked at the time and let out a weary sigh.

“It’s too late now, how about we leave the car here and call a mechanic to fix it tomorrow? Let’s take a cab home.”

As soon as I finished speaking, I saw several men walking toward me from all directions.
