Back to Love: A New Beginning -
Chapter 428
Chapter 428:.
“Daddy!” I burst into tears, screaming in the direction my father had disappeared in.
“Honey, wake up!” A familiar voice called out to me, pulling me out of that horrible nightmare.
When I slowly opened my eyes, the first thing I saw was Derek’s bloodshot eyes. His eyes were brimming with concern, pity and joy all at once as soon as I opened my eyes.
“Honey, you’re finally awake!”.
The sound of his husky voice was riddled with excitement. He grabbed my hand and pressed the back of it against his lips.
Then, tears fell from her eyes and onto the back of my hand. It felt warm to the touch.
“Haven’t I awakened from my dream?” I asked in a soft voice.
Derek kissed the back of my hand again as tears continued to fall down his cheeks. As I thought about the long dream I’d had, I remembered a voice in my sleep telling me to give up my children.
Panicked, I grabbed Derek’s hand.
“Where are my children?”
“Don’t worry, the children are fine. The nurses have taken them for a bath. You’ll be able to see them later,” he told me.
I breathed a sigh of relief and closed my heavy eyelids. Everything would be fine with me, as long as my children were safe. I soon fell asleep again.
Later, I was awakened by my children crying.
When I opened my eyes, I saw that Derek was still sitting on the edge of the bed, holding my hand and looking at me as if he had never moved from the spot.
“The babies are crying!” I commented weakly.
Derek stubbornly grabbed my hand and replied, “Let them cry. After all, they’ve been torturing you. What ungrateful children we have.”
However, my children’s crying was stressing me out so much that I could feel my nerves twitching.
“I want to see them,” I said this time firmly. Derek nodded his head.

He took the two children from the cribs next to my bed and placed them next to me. I turned my head and looked at the babies wrapped in little blankets. As soon as I saw them, tears came to my eyes.
Somehow, I thought I would never get the chance to see them. God knew how much I abhorred the thought of giving them up. They had been in my belly for so long that I could feel every movement they made inside me, from every twist of their body to the kicks of their legs. I wanted to see them so badly. God, they were so tiny and pure. They had their eyes closed and only opened their mouths to cry. And every time they did, they cried at the same time.
The sound of their sweet cries made my heart happy and practically cracked me up. I’m sure they were hungry by now. But since I didn’t have breast milk yet, we had to give them formula for the time being.
When Derek fed them, they fell asleep. That’s when I remembered Ady.
“Where’s Ady, is she okay?”
“She’s fine, but she’s had a dozen stitches,” Derek said.
Shortly after I asked about Ady, he came to see me in my room. She was wearing a hospital gown and was deathly pale. As soon as she entered the room, she looked at Derek, who was standing in front of the window.
“How are you feeling, Ady?” I asked him.
Ady walked over to my bed and smiled at me.
“I’ve seen better days, but I’m fine. A knife that small isn’t enough to kill people.”
“Thank you so much for saving me, Ady!” I told him.
Later, after Ady left, Derek went to the bed and sat back down.
“Does Ady work for you?” I asked looking at him.
He took my hand and replied, “You needed someone to protect you. I can’t rest easy knowing that no one is looking out for you.”
“That’s my business,” I told him.
At this point, I was repressing my emotions. I was still vividly remembering everything that happened the day I left Sousen. Even now, those memories were still haunting me and making me feel sad and miserable.
Derek let out a deep sigh.
“It’s still my business, because we’re not divorced yet. Whether you like it or not, you’re still my wife.”
I stared into his eyes and replied, “Yes, you’re right. We’re not divorced yet. The marriage certificate drags you down, so you’re here to get divorced, aren’t you? Give me the divorce agreement and I’ll sign it.”
