Back to Love: A New Beginning -
Chapter 432
Chapter 432:
I pretended to be awakened by the baby’s crying. Derek walked over to the crib and saw that the diaper was wet. He quickly filled a basin with warm water to clean the baby.
He had to take care of me and the two babies. Derek had never done such things before.
He didn’t know anything at first, but he learned everything quickly. He had become an expert. Alvaro stood next to Derek and looked at the baby helplessly. He didn’t know what to do.
In the end he advised me to rest and left. My secretary came in to brief me on how the salon had been running for the past few days. Apparently, everything was going well, so she asked me to rest easy.
At first, I liked to do everything by myself. But now, at last, I understood that Alvaro was right when he said that a boss only had to give orders.
“You have worked hard during my absence and I thank you for it. Please replace two people who know how to take care of the newborns. I want to do a live broadcast.” My secretary looked dumbfounded.
“I’ve thought about it for a long time. Most pregnant women worry about losing their shape after delivery. Postpartum care would help women get back in shape and take care of their children without compromising their beauty. It has great market potential,” she explained with a smile.
“I am going to expand Jolly Beauty Salon’s postpartum care service. It could be an example for other pregnant women. I plan to do regular live broadcasts over the next three months so that everyone can see the instant effects. I will take the opportunity to promote our postpartum care service directly to the market,” my secretary said with a smile.
“Okay, I’ll contact the appropriate candidates as soon as I get back.” When my secretary left, Derek, who had been quiet the whole time, smiled at me.
“Eveline, you’re a talented businesswoman. You have a great sense of the market. I’m proud of you. Although she seemed quiet, my heart was bubbling with joy. Derek was a business genius and I knew nothing more than to be his loving wife. I always felt inferior to him and thought we were polar opposites. However, his compliments boosted my confidence. A sense of accomplishment grew in my heart. I did not need anyone’s approval. However, his appreciation was priceless. I felt proud of myself.
“But don’t try too hard,” Derek continued, “Don’t forget that you are still weak. I’ve always believed that women don’t need to work too hard. Smart work is better than hard work. You can live an easy life.”
I raised my eyebrows disapprovingly. “Of course I need to work hard. We women don’t have to depend on men for everything. We’re strong and independent, and we can live the life we want without anyone’s help” Derek lowered his head and sighed.
“That’s also why I don’t want you to work too hard. I’m afraid you don’t want me in your life anymore.”
He was right. That was exactly the reason she worked so hard. She didn’t want to go back to being the woman who thought Derek was the center of her universe and prioritized love above all else.

“I have to learn to be independent,” I said solemnly, suppressing the sudden sadness in my heart. Derek looked at me helplessly and grabbed my hand.
“Well, if one day I’m left with nothing, I’ll count on you.”
Really? Would that day ever come? I didn’t think so. He was smart and could control everything. That day would never come.
When the doctor came to visit me, he advised me not to be afraid of the pain and to start walking to avoid intestinal adhesions. I did as he told me. But I couldn’t even get out of bed. Derek helped me move my feet to the edge of the bed. Then he held my arm with one hand and my waist with the other and lifted me up.
As soon as I put my foot on the floor, I felt a sharp pain in my abdomen. I leaned forward and moved carefully. The warm August breeze seemed to comfort me.
I peered out onto the balcony and unconsciously looked down at the green expanse of the floor below. There were several benches on the lawn. Patients were sunbathing and strolling with their families. As I looked around, my gaze fell on one spot.
