Chapter 437:.

Suddenly, I shoved Derek away with great force and tried to control my unsteady breathing. Confused, he looked at me with fire in his eyes. Just as he was about to cover my face with his hand, I pulled away. I stood up and grabbed my shirt, which was already open.

“I’m going to change my clothes.” I ran to my living room as fast as my legs could carry me. Once the door was closed, I leaned against it and breathed heavily. Men could have sex without love, but women could not. I couldn’t ignore my inner thoughts.

I soon found another shirt and changed mine that had become soiled with breast milk. Opening the door to the living room, I found Derek leaning against the wall by the door, as if he had been waiting for me.

I calmly walked out, trying to ignore him, but it wasn’t long before he was hugging me. He seemed to have calmed down, but his breathing was still ragged. I could hear his heart beating.

“Honey, I know you’re still mad at me,” he whispered in my ear. I gently pushed him away, walked back to my desk and sat down.

I opened some folders and told him, “If you want sex, replace someone else.”

For a moment, there was silence in the room. I waited and waited, not knowing what he would say or do. After a while, Derek took a few steps toward me. He stopped in front of the desk and remained silent for a long time. I didn’t even dare to look at him. And I wasn’t sure if his hands in his pockets were relaxed or clenched.

“Eveline, I’m a human, not a beast. I couldn’t resist the urge to do it, because it’s with you. Anyway, I’m off to see my kids,” he said.

Minutes after she left, I stared at the door and felt empty. I adjusted the mirror on my desk and stared at myself. My cheeks were rosy and my lips were slightly puffy. His words before he left were still echoing in my head, and they caused a tide of sadness to run through my veins.

It seemed we had tacitly agreed to act as if nothing had happened. Derek was still good to me and our children, but he never took the initiative to approach me again.

When he wanted to smoke, he would sit out on the balcony for a long time. At that moment, he was smoking again on the balcony, looking out at the dim city lights, while I stared at his back in the darkness. He looked disgusted and unhappy to me.

I’d be lying if I said it didn’t break my heart to see him like that. When our children turned 100 days old, we took them to a photo studio to have their pictures taken. At the photographer’s request, we did everything we could to make them smile.

After the babies were photographed, the photographer suggested we take a few family pictures. As I was changing in the dressing room, I struggled to zipper up my dress. Suddenly, I felt hands pulling up my zipper from behind.

A little embarrassed, I pulled my hair back and prepared to leave the dressing room. However, Derek stopped me. He grabbed me by the shoulders and looked me straight in the eyes.

“I’m going back to Sousen tomorrow morning at eight o’clock.”

I looked back at him, stunned and surprised. The news had come to me suddenly. Although I had stayed away from him these days, I knew the sadness I felt at that moment was true. Hearing him say he was leaving broke my heart.

Even now, he was still looking at me with tenderness in his eyes. As he held me, I felt no lust. Only affection, longing and reluctance to part from me.

“Let’s go take a family picture. After that, let’s go eat somewhere, okay? Just the two of us.”

He finally let go of me and looked me in the eyes again, waiting for a response. I looked down and nodded slightly. Then, I saw a smile on his lips.
