I got the message at 7:45 am. He must have sent it before he got on the plane.

The computer? I looked up and saw the computer in the private room, and my previous phone was on the desk. After putting on some clothes, I walked over.

The computer was on and in standby mode. I hurried to press the keyboard and the screen lit up. There was an audio application open.

After mustering up enough courage, I played it.

“Derek, you still love my sister, don’t you?”

“No.”

“Do you love Eveline?”

“Yes. I love her with all my heart.” Hearing those words left me confused. I couldn’t believe what I had just heard.

“So… Is this the truth, did I get it all wrong?” I mumbled, shocked. Either the recording Becky sent me earlier or this one from the computer must have been edited and altered. And Derek wanted to say that this recording on the computer was the truth.

Should I trust him, did he say he loved me with all his heart, did he really say that?

I had been worrying about this issue for so long. And now, I found out it was all a big misunderstanding. I couldn’t tell how I felt now.

I was excited, regretful and sad. Even if I had misunderstood the recording, what about the photo on the news, was it also a misunderstanding? When I left the hotel, I called Ady and asked him to come to the hotel’s subway parking lot. She soon arrived and drove me home.

As soon as I got to the office, the phone rang. Derek was calling me.

I looked at the time and saw that it was ten-thirty. I leaned back in my chair and answered.

“Are you hungover?” he said in a soft, lovely voice.

“My whole body hurts. Derek, I…”

“I’m sorry, honey. It’s just that I haven’t slept with you in a long time, so I couldn’t control myself last night. I promise I’ll be gentler next time,” she replied.

Next time?

He was in Sousen, and I was residing in Chinston. We were both busy with our own businesses. I didn’t know when we would see each other again.

“Thank you for taking care of the children. I will make it up to you and our children in the future. By the way, remember to take pictures of the kids every day and send them to me so I can watch them grow up,” he added.

Neither of us mentioned the audio recording again. And I didn’t ask him about the newsreel photo. Maybe someday he’ll explain it to me. I preferred not to think about it any further. After all, he was the father of my twins, and the kids needed him.

If the audio file he gave me was true, his words were enough for me.

“Honey, I’m about to have a meeting right now. Give me a kiss before you hang up,” Derek told me over the phone.

Even though he wasn’t in front of me, I blushed.

“Derek, you’re really…” He laughed and cut me off. “Are you embarrassed? I’m really looking forward to seeing how you are now.”

“You should go to your meeting. Do you want everyone to wait for you?” I asked him.

“So what? They can wait. I’m the boss and I have the final say in everything,” he replied disapprovingly.

“All right, that’s fine. Go on now. I’m hanging up,” I said.

“Wait!” he exclaimed. “Okay. Since you don’t want to kiss me, I’ll kiss you.” Right after he said that, I heard a kiss on the other end of the line.

“Did you feel it?” he asked me.

I didn’t say anything. I touched my face and looked in the mirror, and realized I had blushed. My cheeks were rosy and my eyes were full of affection.

“Go to your meeting! I don’t think it’s appropriate for the boss to be late for his own meeting,” I argued.

Derek laughed at my comment. “Okay. I have to hang up now. I’ll call you when I’m free. Remember to miss me, okay?”. He finally ended the call.

When I looked up, I saw Alvaro leaning against the doorframe with his arms crossed. I had no idea when he had arrived. It looked like he had been there for quite a while.
