The music changed as the dancing began. People swayed their bodies to the beat of the music. The place was dimly lit, except for the colorful neon lights flashing with the music.

I looked around and saw people chatting, sipping drinks from their glasses. Perhaps because I was alone, several men looked at me. However, I tried to ignore them. I scanned the room and soon spotted Derek.

He was sitting quietly on a couch in the left corner of the room. He was not wearing a mask. He was holding a wine glass in his hand and staring at the dance floor as if he had something on his mind.

At that moment, Ken and Doug also appeared. They were sitting on the right side of the room, away from Derek, which temporarily relieved me. Just as I was about to walk over to Derek, a man approached me.

“Miss, may I dance with you?”

“I’m sorry, I’m looking for my husband.”
