Back to Love: A New Beginning -
Chapter 449
Chapter 449:.
Just as I expected, Ken was still waiting for me outside.
As soon as he saw me, he hugged me.
“You look drunk. Let me replace you a place where you can rest for a while.” Naturally, I knew what he intended.
I pretended to be drunk, leaned on his shoulder and nodded. Moments later, he led me to a private room and closed the door.
The light in the private room was dim and I could hear the faint music coming from the hallway.
“Come, let me help you lie down on the bed,” Ken suggested eagerly.
I wrapped my arms around his neck and pressed him against the wall. In a drunken voice, I asked, “Why did you bring me here – do you want to sleep with me?”
At first, Ken was stunned. But not a second later he changed his mind and wrapped his arms around my waist. He probably thought I was too drunk to resist.
“Yes, I do. Your husband is hardly around, so you’re probably feeling very lonely. I’ll dispel your loneliness and make you happy, do you want to do that?”
As she spoke, her mouth came close to my face. I immediately turned my face away, holding my dislike towards him, and put on a smile.
“You don’t need to hurry. I have to shower first.” With that said, I let go of him and headed towards the bathroom in the private room.
“I’m coming with you.” Ken followed me, possibly with perverted thoughts in mind. To stop him, I turned around, raised a finger and shook it in his face. “Nuh-uh. Why don’t you go warm up the bed and wait for me?”
Ken was so impatient his eyes lit up. I noticed his Adam’s apple bobbing up and down as he nodded repeatedly.
“Sure. I’ll warm up the bed. I’ll wait for you.” I nodded before walking into the bathroom.
Once inside, I turned on the shower faucet and let the water fall to the floor, pretending I was really showering. I rummaged in my purse for something I could use.
Inside was a fruit knife I had prepared in the afternoon. In case of need, I could use it to defend myself.
Half an hour later, I leaned against the door and listened carefully. There didn’t seem to be any noise coming from outside. A few minutes later, I opened the bathroom door with the fruit knife in my hand.

Ken lay motionless on the bed. Cautiously, I approached the bed. I could hear him snoring. It seemed that Ken had already fallen asleep.
Realizing this, I pulled the knife away from the fruit, squatted down next to the bed and pushed his coat aside with my trembling hands.
God knew how nervous I was. Somehow, I felt like my heart was going to jump out of my throat. And sure enough, he had a gun in his waistband. As I took the gun from him, I checked to see if Ken was waking up.
Although I had added a drug to the glass of wine, I wasn’t sure how effective it would be. It would be bad if he suddenly woke up halfway through.
Finally, I got the gun. I breathed a sigh of relief and stowed the pistol in the bag before leaving the private room. After asking some staff for directions, I finally found the kitchen and made myself some glasses of wine.
At that moment, several waiters and waitresses came to fetch the wine. In the meantime, I secretly watched them and pulled a waitress aside from among them. I handed her five hundred dollars and asked her to take the wine glasses to Doug’s table.
I had lived at the bottom of society, so I knew the commoners well. If they could make five hundred dollars just for pouring some wine, they would do it in a heartbeat. After taking the money from me, he took the wine.
Shortly thereafter, I returned to the room. At that time, several people were sitting next to Derek and talking to him. I didn’t want to go near him, so I had to replace a better vantage point.
Doug’s friends were eating and drinking happily, but Doug was more cautious. He wouldn’t even touch the wine on the table and looked at Derek with hatred in his eyes.
After a while, the music suddenly stopped. The emcee announced that the president of Alma Department Store, sponsors of the dance, was going to make a speech. The president was a round-headed fellow. He had a fat face and a thick gold chain around his neck, and he spoke as if he were a very rich man.
In fact, he didn’t even look like the president of a company. He was dressed like a gang leader and acted like one.
After his speech, the audience erupts in applause. The president came down from the stage and clinked glasses with those who ingratiated themselves with him. The atmosphere seemed harmonious and joyful, but I knew it was not going to be a quiet night. All this time, I had been feeling tense.
In the blink of an eye, the president was gone. I didn’t know where he was. Meanwhile, everyone was still eating, drinking or dancing.
The scene seemed to me like the calm before the storm. My unexpected marriage to the president by the pumpkin witch .
