Back to Love: A New Beginning -
Chapter 531
Chapter 531:.
“Don’t say anything. Just hug me.” I hugged him tightly, my head resting on his chest and my heart heavy with the need for his comfort. I felt like I was in a dream and didn’t want to wake up.
“Eveline, don’t forget that Dexter and Edith need you.” Tears welled up in my eyes.
In a fit of rage, I shoved him away and sobbed.
“Do you really have to ruin my dream? Can’t I have it a little longer?”
Aaron looked at me with eyes of helplessness and pity at the same time.
“Eveline, please don’t. All of us have to go through birth, aging, illness and death at some point. Be rational, okay?”
I was so irritated by her words that I covered my ears with my hands. “Will you please stop, what’s wrong with you, why are you so cruel, why do you keep telling me he’s already dead, why?” Aaron sighed helplessly.
“Eveline, I understand how hard it is for you to accept Derek’s death. Even I am in shock. But you must understand that Derek is not entirely yours. He is the father of your two children. When you lost Derek, your two children lost their father as well. They will be even more miserable if they lose their mother’s care as well.”
Slowly I calmed down and looked at him in confusion.
“Where are they?”
“They are sleeping,” Aaron said. I wanted to go to them, but he restrained me.
“Don’t move. You’re sick.” Aaron stayed by my side the whole time. He wouldn’t let me out of bed until he finished the infusion and took my temperature.
It was dark outside. When I walked into the next room, both my children were sleeping soundly, but their faces were still wet from crying. My heart ached as I wiped away their tears and tucked them into their beds.
Alvaro was sitting off to the side, carefully fiddling with the unfinished model airplane.
“It was Ady who helped you change your clothes,” he said without turning his head.
Only then did I realize that I was in my pajamas and that my wet clothes had already been changed.

I went downstairs. The bowl of noodles I had prepared was still on the table and the soup had already dried. I had finally made up my mind that no matter how long I waited, Derek would not be back.
Later, Timmy informed me that Doug had turned himself in. Doug stated that he didn’t need to run because Derek was dead and he had gotten his wish.
However, it was the most wanted drug dealer, Luther, and not Doug, who attacked Derek. Luther managed to flee, but was unable to leave Sousen due to police restrictions.
According to the latest information, Luther and some of his men had fled to the top of the mountain. The mountain was surrounded by police, but because he had taken a woman and a child hostage, the officers were reluctant to act rashly.
“Can you tell me Derek’s true identity?” I asked Timmy.
Timmy was deafeningly silent for a while. Finally, he said, “He’s more than just a businessman.”
Regardless of how intricate and mysterious Derek was, he was still the man I adored most in my life. I slipped the diamond ring he had left me on my finger. I was enraptured with the ring on my finger and lost myself in it. It looked like he had put it on my ring finger.
Having the ring on my finger made me feel like I had a part of him with me at all times. After I put it on, I felt like I had a new sense of power. A kind of power that rescued me from the brink of despair.
Instead of obsessing over the past, I set out to gain strength and accomplish something more meaningful. That day, I asked Tina and Megan to watch my children.
I drove out alone, but I didn’t tell Alvaro or Aaron. When I arrived at the foot of the mountain where Luther was trapped, the cordon had been cut and no one was allowed to pass. A police officer was talking to Luther and his men through a loudspeaker.
I looked up trying to replace them, but saw no one. I could only hear their voices. Judging from their conversation, it was clear that Luther had been injured, but the policemen did not dare go upstairs because they feared endangering the safety of the hostages.
They demanded that the police send food and a female doctor up the mountain. The police were considering the possibility of a policewoman posing as a doctor.
“I’ll go,” I said suddenly.
