Chapter 84:

I saw the bug app on my phone by accident. I realized it had been a long time since I had used it.

Over the next few days, I opened it at night, but heard no sound coming from it. Maybe my microphone had been found or maybe it was now broken.

A few days later, I opened it again despite how desperate I felt. Finally, I heard people’s voices through the bug app. They seemed to be arguing, along with the sound of throwing some stuff.

“Get the fuck out of here! I never want to see your face again.” Vivien’s voice was still as shrill as ever. I deduced that she must have recovered quite well.

“Vivien, please don’t be mad at me anymore. It’s all my fault. When you’ve recovered, we can have a wedding ceremony again,” Shane pleaded.

He had never stooped so low before me.

“Again, you say? You really think we can do all that again like nothing happened? Don’t you think you’ve humiliated me enough? I was pregnant with your child, Shane! How do you think you can make up for all the pain I suffered?”

“I’m sorry, Vivien. If you’re willing, we can make another baby,” Shane reasoned.

Vivien scoffed at him and said, “Who would want to have another baby with you? You’re pathetic. We’re done. I’m divorcing you.”

“Vivien, please! Think this through. You and I didn’t mean for something like this to happen.” Shane dropped to his knees and continued to plead.

“Kneel all you want, but that’s not going to help you. I’ve already made up my mind.

We’re getting a divorce. And you can’t work for Virtue Hospital anymore. You’re finished.”

I was very surprised that Shane knelt down on his knees to Vivien. That man was a male chauvinist, but he stooped for her.

As their fight progressed, Shane kept apologizing and begging her to forgive him, but Vivien wouldn’t budge. She even made all kinds of rude comments about him.

At that moment, Derek suddenly woke up from his sleep, rolled over and hugged me in a daze.

Even though I was wearing headphones, I felt guilty about what I was doing. So, I quickly turned off the microphone app and soon heard nothing.

Compared to the fight of those two in their house, the sound of Derek’s steady breathing was music to my ears. It was so pleasant that it soothed me. Perhaps all the unpleasant experiences I had endured were to allow me to get to know this wonderful man.

When Shane took my son from me and abandoned me, did he ever think I was going to live such a hectic life with Vivien?

It was like a twist of fate!

Suddenly, my phone rang again. Fortunately, it didn’t wake Derek.

When I looked at the screen, I saw a message from Seagull on Whatsapp.

“Eve, I am performing the handover procedure. I will be back in Sousen in two weeks at the latest. I’m really looking forward to seeing you.” Seagull would be back soon.

“I’m looking forward to it too! Welcome back!” I replied.

Seagull and I had been friends for many years, but we had never met in person.

I had no idea why he had sponsored me in the past. But still, he helped me a lot. I was very grateful to him. Although I was nervous, I was really looking forward to meeting him.

The next morning, Derek got up before me. After washing up, I went downstairs and heard something in the kitchen. As I walked through the kitchen door, I found that he was already preparing breakfast.

“Am I up too late?” I scratched the back of my neck and felt embarrassed. “Not really.”

Derek looked back at me and smiled. Then he placed the eggs in the pan, making a sizzling sound.

“You can sleep a little longer. I’ll wake you up when breakfast is ready.”

I walked in, intending to take the spatula from him. “I’ll do it.”

But he didn’t give it to me. He just kept frying the eggs in the pan and laughed. “This is the first chance I’ve had to cook breakfast for my wife. Aren’t you going to let me have the pleasure of doing it?”

I looked up, tracing his fingers holding the spatula, down to his perfect jaw. The morning light outside the window accentuated his figure and somehow he seemed to be coated in light. His appearance was so gentle and kind. Just looking at him made me feel so good.

“What, are you moved by my grand gesture?” the sound of his voice was so pleasant to hear.

I lowered my head, unconsciously pressing my hands together. “You’re a president. If I let someone like you cook for me, I’m worried I won’t be able to digest the food easily.”

Derek laughed, wrapping his free hand around my waist. He pulled me close to him and focused his attention on the frying pan.

“I’m your husband, Eve, isn’t it normal for a husband to cook breakfast for his beloved wife?”

I had no idea if it was the sizzling eggs in the skillet or the handsome man next to me, but I couldn’t help but swallow my own saliva.

“If you’re feeling grateful, perhaps a reward would be in order,” he suggested.

When he tilted his face toward me, I already imagined what he wanted me to do .
