Chapter 8

After Fiona got back home, she took a relaxing bath, slipped into some comfy clothes, and crashed on the couch. Night had snuck up on her. Pulling her phone out, she saw it was dead. She plugged it in and it blew up with missed calls and messages, mostly from Macy and Alexa. She knew them well and even without looking at those messages she knew what they wanted. She couldn’t be bothered. She just tossed the phone aside and turned on the TV.

But she barely got a chance to chill before her phone rang again. Smirking when she saw who it was, she picked up and went hands–free. “Mr. Durham, what’s going on? You don’t usually call.”

Sean Durham’s voice had a laugh in it. “Heard you hit the jackpot today.”

Fiona couldn’t help

lp but laugh, “I sure did. You wouldn’t believe the show I saw those two put on… Been crying to you about it?”

“Macy ratted you out to your grandma.”

Fiona’s smile faded. “She didn’t upset her, did she?” Fiona’s grandma, Bridget Lopez, had been the one to replace her after she went missing. When Bridget found Fiona, she was rebellious and despondent, with a strong hostile aura, and was sent to a nunnery in the countryside to cultivate her character, which was where she met Sean. Later on, Bridget brought Sean to the Lopez family and arranged for him to join Lopez Group. With his natural business acumen, Sean greatly expanded the reach of the company over the years, to the point where even Macy dared not offend him. All along, Fiona had been in contact with Bridget. Bridget looked down on Nathan, thinking he lacked ability and was delusionally ambitious and restless. Fiona’s return this time to call off her engagement was at her behest. She figured if anyone was gonna call off an engagement, Fiona should be the one doing the dumping.

“She is fine. If you want a real laugh, think about claiming that Lopez family fortune. Sean teased.

Fiona didn’t say anything. Then she heard Sean ask, “You gonna visit Mrs. Lopez at Paclan? She misses you.”

“Maybe not. I’ve something to do with the Harrell family,” she said.

“Cool, fillet her know,” Scan replied, then got all serious. “So, you met Sebastian Quinn today?”

Just as she was about to reply, the cell phone on the table started vibrating, another call was coming in. It was an unfamiliar number, and without much thought, she dismissed the call and said, “Yeah, bumped into him. He seems like a good person–generous, kind of charming… He’s got a good vibe, you know? is the rumor true or not? I don’t think he looks like an impotent man.”

Nathan choked a little, like he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. “Good and generous? You sure we’re talking about the same Sebastian Quinn?” Knowing she was curious, he added in a serious tone, “Look, Fiona, I can have to snoop about it. Do not mess around him alright? You’re playing with fire. “Then he went on to share a string of cautionary tales about why Sebastian wasn’t someone to be messed with before he finally ended the call.

After the call, Fiona sat on the floor, dead set on figuring out if this Sebastian guy was impotent or not. If it turned out to be true, she planned to cure him once she got her hands on the 80 million dollars. Perhaps he might even give her more money for her efforts. As she was plotting, she noticed the business card she picked up from Sebastian earlier, and it hit her–it matched the number of the unknown caller she just blew off. She’d hung up on Sebastian Quinn! Smooth. She called him back ASAP, spitting out an apology as soon as he answered. “Mr. Quinn, my bad about earlier. Total accident.”

On the other side of the wall, Sebastian had just finished up his shower and was lounging by the window in a white robe. He chuckled when he picked up the phone. “Well, Fiona Harrell, you’re the first one who’s over hung up on me.” It was also the first time he had ever called a girl “Who were you on just now? Boyfriend?

Fiona keenly detected Sebastian’s displeasure, her heart pounding with alarm. “Oh, just a friend, Mr. Quinn, I’m sorry, L.. I haven’t had time. I promise, it won’t happen again. Is there something you need?”

“I sent you a message on WhatsApp but you didn reply.”

Fiona couldn’t help but roll her eyes, thinking. For real? That is what he wants to tell me?” “Oops, my badt Totally slipped my mind.” Fiona said, quickly wrapping up the call to open her app. She then just hung up on Sebastian, again. Scrolling fast, she sent him a message with a funny emoji of a little dude begging for forgiveness and a bunch of LOL faces to butter him up.

But Sebastian didn’t reply to her.

Fiona raised an eyebrow, complaining in her mind, “Really? He’s so pettyl‘ Contemplating for a moment, she changed Sebastian’s label to “Mr. Moneybags” and pinned their chats,

On the weekends, Dexter buzzed her, saying. “The whole family’s gathering at the house. Your granny’s here too. Come on home for dinner. We all miss

A grin spread across Fiona’s face, “Yeah, I miss y’all too. Count me in!”
