Chapter 479

Sophia watched Claudius amble past the security check and vanish from her sight before she left theairport.

The moment she stepped into her vehicle, her phone rang.

It was a text from Claudius saying he had boarded the plane.

Sophia grinned and texted back: Safe travels. Then, she put her phone aside and drove back to thecompany.

On the third day after Claudius left, Felix informed Sophia that a woman with the last name Lawrewanted to meet her.

Sophia thought about it. "Lawre?"

There aren't many people in Jadeborough with that last name. I only know a few of them, but I rarelyinteracted with them, much less met them privately before. The only person with that last name I canrecall is Yasmin, who should be in Moranta.

When her train of thought ended there, she said, "Let her in." I'll know soon enough if it's Yasmin.

Felix nodded and promptly went downstairs to bring the visitor.

Soon, he returned and informed, "This is Ms. Lawre, Ms. Yarrow."

Sophia stared at Yasmin and grinned. "It's been a while, Ms. Lawre."

The second Felix heard that, he knew Sophia had met Yasmin before.

"Please bring me two glasses of fruit juice, Mr. Lane." Sophia shot a glance at him.

Nodding, Felix left.

Sophia then rose to her feet and approached Yasmin. "Have a seat over here, Ms. Lawre."

With a scoff, Yasmin planted herself on the couch.

Sitting across Yasmin, Sophia faced the former with a half-hearted smile. "Have you just returned fromyour vacation, Ms. Lawre?"

Yasmin wasn't interested in wasting time with Sophia, so she immediately pulled out a diagnosis reportfrom her bag. "Let's cut to the chase, Sophia. I'm here today because of Claudius."

As she spoke, she delivered the report to Sophia. "Mdm. Lenoir is suffering from stage four breastcancer. In the few days that Claudius was back in Chanaea, she was sent to the emergency room. UI isthe product of Mdm. Lenoir's and her husband's years of hard work. If anything happens to Mdm.Lenoir, Claudius won't be able to protect UI without my family's aid."

Yasmin glanced at Sophia before adding, "Your relationship with Claudius is a thing of the past. I'd sayyou two are fated not to stay together, considering he lost all memories of you. If you're smart, you'll lethim go now. It'll be good for the both of you."

Sophia tilted her head downward, ever so slightly, to look at the report. A smile curved her lips as shequestioned, "So, you're here today to persuade me to break up with Claudius? Am I right?"

"Don't worry. So long as you break up with Claudius, my family will help you handle your matters inChanaea."

Sophia snickered in response, her gaze falling on the other woman. "You're so kind, Ms. Lawre."

She paused, then continued, "However, I' 'm afraid you failed to understand something. Aside from thefact that Claudius and I already knew each other, even after he lost his memory, the only woman helikes is me. You said I'm not fated to stay with him, so how do you explain that? I appreciate yourkindness, Ms. Lawre, but I'm more than capable of protecting a company. Also, I won't hand my manover to another person so easily."

Just as she ended her sentence, Felix brought two glasses of juice into the room. Sophia cast a firmglance at the secretary and uttered flatly, "Please send Ms. Lawre out, Mr. Lane."

With that, she returned to her seat.

Felix glanced at Yasmin. Snapping back to his senses, he quickly placed the glasses down and strodeto the woman's side. "Ms. Lawre, this way, please."

Yasmin did not expect Sophia to reject her in such an outright manner, and her expression dimmed atonce. She stood up and glared daggers at the latter before scoffing, "Don't worry, Sophia. There willcome a day when you'll have to beg me for my help!"

Sophia lifted her head and flashed Yasmin a composed smile. "Oh, I hope that day will come soon, for

I'm not a very patient woman," was her response.

Her words only caused Yasmin's rage to intensify. The latter's face flushed red in anger as she grittedher teeth. She looked as though she had something to say but eventually tamped down her anger anddecided against doing so upon seeing Felix.

After tossing another glare at Sophia, Yasmin clenched her jaw and spun on her heel to leave.

The door to the office was shut, leaving Sophia alone in the room. A slight grin played on her lips.

However, when her gaze landed on the diagnostic report sitting on the coffee table, her smile falteredslightly.

A frown crossed her face at the thought of Yasmin's words.

It seemed Rose wasn't doing well.

Indeed, the older woman was in critical condition. Claudius had only returned to Chanaea for a coupleof days when she lost consciousness and was rushed to the emergency room.

The doctors managed to save her life, but unfortunately, they also mentioned that they had less than amonth to live.

Rose's current condition was starkly different compared to before. Ever since she was resuscitated, herbody became weaker, and she couldn't even leave the ward.

The woman refused to undergo chemotherapy, resulting in the worsening of her condition and causing

her immense pain. She could only use morphine to alleviate some of her discomforts.

Fortunately, Rose was feeling much better a few days later. She glanced at her secretary, who hadbeen by her side for more than thirty years, and said, "Call Claudius here. It's time for me to speak withhim about some things."

After Claudius returned to Lusterg, he received news that Rose had been sent to the hospital.

He couldn't recall anything from the past, and he didn't feel any emotions toward Rose.

However, he was no monster, and Rose was his biological mother, so he still cared about her when heheard she collapsed.

Moreover, he also knew that Rose was friendly toward Sophia.

Claudius headed straight for the hospital after getting off the plane, but Rose refused to meet with himthen as she was in a terrible condition.

He had a feeling of what was to come when the woman summoned him to the hospital a few days later.

After wrapping up his meeting, Claudius drove directly to the hospital.

He arrived at Rose's ward to see the woman in a wheelchair. She was the only one in the room andappeared as if she was waiting for him.

"Mom," greeted Claudius as he entered the room.

"You're here?" Rose turned around to face her son.

Even though it had only been ten days since they last saw each other, she appeared like a completelydifferent person compared to before.

His heart ached slightly when he saw that.

"Mhm." Claudius stepped toward Rose and waited for her to speak.

In response, she handed him the document in her hand. "I asked someone to make a copy. The realone is in Sophia's possession."

Claudius took the document over and lowered his head to look at it, only to realize that it was a will.

Stunned, he asked, "Are you truly planning to cease treatment?"

Rose waved her hand. "It's fine. I doubt I'll have long to live even if my cancer is cured. I've acceptedmy fate. Perhaps my relapse is all a part of God's plan. Besides, I haven't seen Jeff in five years. I thinkit's about time for me to reunite with him."

The topic of death didn't seem to faze her whatsoever.

"Bruce and Truce Valentine have been active recently. I heard they contacted someone in Chanaea todo something to Sophia. Also, I've looked into Sophia, and I must say, she's an impressive woman. Youhave my wholehearted approval to take her as your wife. Of course, I know you'll still marry her even ifI disapprove of her. You're my son, and I'll obviously be happy if you can marry such a wonderfulwoman. While many things here need to be dealt with, you can tend to Sophia's matters if you like. I

have my secretary keeping me company. There's no need for you to worry about me," Rose began.

She paused momentarily and suddenly lifted a hand to caress Claudius' cheek. "You may be anaccident, but I'm still happy to have given birth to such an outstanding son like you, Claudius. UI'sfuture will be in your hands, and I hope you'll be able to protect it for me."
