Benson 11
Chapter 11 The Missed Appointment
Denson’s words were sharp and direct, like a knife slicing through the previously cheerful atmosphere. His voice wasn’t loud, but each word was clear to everyone present, like a heavy punch landing on Yvonne’s heart.
Yvonne’s face turned pale instantly, Her eyes were filled with shock and disbelief as she stood there, completely stunned
The lively atmosphere in the venue froze, and time seemed to stand still.
Laughter and chatter ceased abruptly, replaced by a deathly silence. All eyes were on Benson and Yvonne, with an air of awkwardness and tension filling
the room.
Bella stood to the side, het face full of worry and unease.
She instinctively wanted to step forward and say something, perhaps to scold Benson or at least comfort Yvonne.
However, just as she took a step, Thomas quickly reached out and stopped her.
His eyes conveyed to Bella that any intervention at this moment might backfire and escalate the situation.
Yvonne’s recovery was like a warm breeze melting an icy lake. Her smile was calm and serene, as if Benson’s harsh words hadn’t left any mark on her heart. “Mrs. Taylor is my godmother, so I’m his sister,” Yvonne sald simply.
Her explanation was clear and concise, like a key unlocking the confusion in everyone’s minds. It not only clarified their relationship but also put an end
to the sudden turmoil.
Thomas smiled and tried to lighten the tense atmosphere with a casual suggestion: “This Saturday, the Taylor estate will host a singles party. All single friends are welcome to join us for a weekend of laughter and dancing!”
His proposal immediately piqued everyone’s interest, and the awkward atmosphere gradually gave way to anticipation and excitement.
Music started playing again, and the mood began to warm up. Marcus, Benson’s friend, approached Benson with a drink in hand, a confident glint in his eye and a playful smile on his lips.
“Since she’s your sister, that’s great. I’m confident I can win her over, Marcus said, his voice tinged with a hint of challenge but mostly filled with
interest in Yvonne
Benson exhaled a puff of smole, his expression calm and unreadable. He responded lightly, “Is that so?” His short reply neither encouraged nor discouraged Marcus.
“Don’t worry!” Marcus, full of confidence, walked toward Yvonne and Bella with firm, purposeful strides.
When he stood before the two ladies, his smile broadened. He bowed elegantly and asked, “Ladies, my name is Marcus. May I have the pleasure of getting your contact information?”
Yvonne was caught off guard by the sudden approach and looked at Marcus, her lips moving but unable to make a sound.
Seeing this, Bella quickly intervened with a clear and loud voice, “Yvonne. Yvonne Winstead.
Marcus thanked Bella but kept his eyes on Yvonne, waiting for her response
Yvonne finally regained her composure, smiled politely, and softly said, “Nice to meet you, Marcus.”
Thomas lightly approached Benson, his eyes carrying a hint of amusement. “Starting to care about this pretty sister–in–law?
His words hinted at curiosity about Benson’s feelings.

Benson glanced at Thomas disdainfully, his expression cold and indifferent, as if dismissing Thomas’s question. “What do
Thomas wasn’t deterred by Benson’s Indifference. “Not really? Haven’t you been watching her since you entered the party?”
Benson didn’t respond, continuing to smoke, the swirling smoke malding his face even more obscure.
His silence was like a wall, blocking Thomas’s curiosity
think?”
Thomas looked at Benson, a flicker of disappointment in his eyes, but he quickly returned to his usual relaxed demeanor, as if their conversation had been just a trivial joke.
Yvonne stayed at the party for a while longer before deciding to leave. Victoria’s lawyer had already arranged for her to sign the divorce papers day, meaning her marriage with Benson would officially end soon.
the next
After exchanging contact information with Marcus, Yvonne originally wanted to ask Benson if he was available to finalize the divorce papers together. But remembering his earlier words, “She’s my sister,” made her hesitant to speak further.
Yvonne gracefully bid farewell to the party, her steps firm and swift, as it eager to escape the stifling environment.
She reached Bella’s car, sat in the passenger seat, took a deep breath, and quickly texted Benson: “Tonsorrow afternoon, let’s finalize the divorce.”
After sending the message, Yvonne was about to put her phone back in her bag when it vibrated immediately with Benson’s response. She was very surprised, as Benson usually ignored her messages and had never replied so promptly.
“Okay!” Benson’s reply was short and direct, without any extra words, but it conveyed a sense of tinality.
Yvonne quickly typed her response: “Tomorrow at 2 PM”
Her finger rapped the screen, sending the message. Her decisive actions seemed to strengthen her resolve. At 2 PM, Yvonne arrived punctually at the state courthouse, feeling a mix of complex and heavy emotions. She wore a simple black dress, her hair neatly tied back, giving her a solemn yet somewhat forlorn appearance. She stood there, her gaze occasionally sweeping the surroundings, waiting for Benson to arrive.
However, as the minutes ticked by, until it was 3 PM, there was still no sign of Benson.
Yvonne tried texting Benson to ask his whereabouts, but her messages received no reply.
She then called him, but the only response was the beeping of an unanswered call.
Yvonne was filled with confusion and unease, not understanding why Benson had suddenly missed the appointment.
With no other options, Yvonne returned to her car to wait quietly. Through the window, she watched people coming and going from the courthouse, some with blank expressions, others with tear–streaked faces.
They each went their separate ways, symbolizing the end of a relationship.
A sense of sadness welled up in Yvonne’s heart as she recalled her moments with Benson, the sweetness and the quarrels, all now becoming part of the pust
As evening fell, the courthouse staff began to leave, and the guards locked the doors.
Yvonne knew that the divorce proceedings couldn’t be completed today.
She felt a mixture of disappointment and a strange sense of relief.
She started her car and drove away from the courthouse.
On the way home, Bellacalled, concerned about the situation.
Yvonne told her that Benson hadn’t shown up. Bella Immediately said, “He must have regretted it, right?”
Yvonne hesitated before replying, “Probably not regret. Maybe Mary needed him for something, and he forgot I was waiting for him.”
