Chapter 21 Unexpected

Benson’s response was casual, with a dismissive tone in his voice: “Depends on your performance.”

These words were like a gentle breeze, leaving no substantial promise or sincere expectation.

Yvonne dislilond this passive situation; she needed a clear answer and a solution.

She pressed on firmly, “Be specific. What kind of answer is this ambiguity?” Her voice carried an undeniable determination, demanding a clear response from Benson

Benson did not immediately answer. His gaze was focused intently on Yvonne’s fair, slender neck, as if he was contemplating something

Yvonne felt his gaze, and unease rose within her. She knew that since she had come here, she was already at a disadvantage, with few choices left.

She took a deep breath. Unless she decided to give up the brooch, she could only cooperate with him.

Despite Yvonne’s emotional distress and physical discomfort, Benson maintained a degree of restraint.

He did not take any invasive or inappropriate actions..

Yvonne stood in the living room, her body trembling slightly, filled with complex emotions. Benson’s attitude made her feel inexplicably helpless.

She felt her body become weak and numb, as if all her strength had been drained.

Benson’s breathing, became slightly heavier, but his gaze remained clear, unaffected by desire.

Tears involuntarily slid down Yvonne’s face, her heart feeling torn apart.

Yvonne alone in the living room.

Benson, with a stern face, left without any comforting words, heading upstairs, leaving Yv

His clothes were neat, every button lastened perfectly, as if nothing had happened.

She looked at herself, forming a stark contrast to Benson.

A wave of shame surged within her; she felt she had lost this silent confrontation.

Her hand instinctively reached for the sofa, where a thin blanket lay, her only cover.

She pulled the blanket tightly around herself, as if it could shield her inner vulnerability and anxiety.

Though the blanket was thin, it gave Yvonne a sense of inexplicable security.

She used it to cover her body and her heart.

Standing there, she used the blanket as a shield, trying to protect herself from further harm

Her actions were urgent, as if this thin fabric could build a barrier to fend off the outside world and her inner unrest.

Yvonne’s heart burned like a raging fire, anger and grievance entangled in an unsolvable knot.

palms trembled slightly, filled with a strong urge to rush forward and slap Benson, to vent her anger and dissatisfaction.

However, when her thoughts drifted to her mother in the hospital, the impulse was extinguished like being doused with cold water, her hard dropping powerlessly.

She knew she couldn’t lose her sanity now, couldn’t make things more complicated due to a moment’s impulse.

Her mother needed her to remain calm and strong, not to fall into pointless arguments and conflicts.

Yvonne took a deep breath, trying to calm her emotions. She swallowed the bittemess of anger and grievance like taking a bitter pill.

Benson stood under the cold shower, letting the icy water wash over his body, trying to quell his inner turmoil and desire.

Water droplets slid down his skin, taking away his body heat and his impulses.

He closed his eyes, and Yvonne’s image involuntarily appeared in his mind: her body, her expression. All of this evolved a complex emotion he couldn’t

describe.

When he finally felt calm, he stepped out of the bathroom, returned to bed, and prepared to rest. He had no intention of caring for Yvonne; it seemed there was an invisible wall separating him from her.

However, just as he was about to fall asleep, an uneasy feeling suddenly woke him. He realized Yvonne might

He picked Yvonne up, startling her awalce. “What are you doing?” she asked.

Benson replied succinctly, “Taking care of you.”

Yvonne turned her head away, no longer resisting.

Benson gently placed her on the bed, an action that made Yvonne feel an indescribable shyness,

She lay numbly in the bed, filled with complex emotions.

However, Benson did not stay to care for her; he turned and left the room.

Yvonne lay in the bed, feeling the warmth of the covers, yet her heart remained cold. She didn’t understand why Benson acted this way or how she should face all of this,

She could only lie there quietly, waiting for time to pass.

A deep fatigue washed over Yvonne; her eyelids were so heavy they could barely stay open. She had missed dinner due to work, and now her stomach was empty, but her body craved rest.

The blanket retained Benson’s body heat, giving her an inexplicable sense of comfort.

She decided not to hold on anymore, not to wait for Benson’s return, and drifted into a deep sleep.

Benson gently pushed open the bedroom door, holding a bowl of hot porridge.

His gaze fell on the sleeping Yvonne; her long hair cascaded over the pillow, her serene and beautiful sleeping face like a captivating painting, moving Benson deeply

He gently wake Yvonne, who reluctantly opened her eyes, seeing Benson by the bed, holding a bowl of steaming porridge, carefully bringing it to her mouth.

This unexpected gesture left Yvonne feeling confused and surprised, a mix of emotions welling up within her.

Yvonne never expected Benson to do this; she was momentarily at a loss for words.

She took the porridge but wasn’t used to eating in bed, so she moved to the window, taking small sips.

Benson stood by the bed, watching Yvonne eat with a gentle and affectionate look in his eyes.

Yvonne silently finished the porridge, her stomach finally feeling some warmth and satisfaction

Seeing the empty bowl, Benson broke the silence,Take your medicine.”

Yvonne simply nodded and went to get the medicine. Her movements were mechanical but compliant.

When she returned with the medicine, Benson suddenly grabbed her arm, pulling her into his embrace

He teased, “Just a touch and you’re blaming others? Let’s call you the fragile princess.”

Yvonne’s heart trembled with a mix of emotions. She pushed Benson away and took her medicine.

The room’s atmosphere grew ambiguous and strange Yvonne took a deep breath, reminding herself not to be swayed by this moment of tenderness. She lay back down, taking off the sweater she had been wearing

The lights went out, and the room plunged into darkness.

Benson’s strong, warm body pressed against her, his lips at her ear, whispering, “End things with Marcus.
