Benson 249
Chapter 249 Unresolved Feelings and Divorce Papers.
The morning sunlight streamed through the curtains, casting patterns of light and shadow on the floor.
Yvonne, after chatting with Victoria and little Emma in the courtyard for a while. walked back inside.
A thin layer of sweat glistened on her forehead, sparkling like morning dew.
A servant noticed and immediately brought her a glass of warm water.
She took it, sipping slowly and elegantly, as if savoring a sweet nectar.
Yvonne smiled as she gently tidied little Emma’s hair, her movements tender and filled with maternal care.
Little Emma looked up at her with admiration and dependence in her eyes, You’re so beautiful, sister. You should come pick me up from school sometime!”
Yvonne was momentarily surprised, not expecting Emma to start calling her
sister.”
The smile on her lips faltered slightly as she looked at Emma, a mix of emotions passing through her heart.
Since waking up this morning, little Emma had insisted on no longer calling her Aunt Yvonne, saying that since Yvonne was no longer with Benson, she
shouldn’t be her aunt anymore.
Emma’s tone was firm, as if standing up for Yvonne.
“Don’t talk nonsense; that’s rude.” Benson’s voice suddenly came from the side.
He was lightly holding Emma by the collar, gently pushing her aside.
His tone was stern, leaving no room for argument. He was clearly displeased with his niece’s change in address.
However, little Emma didn’t back down. Instead, she pouted.
With a mischievous and slightly defiant look, she asked, “Uncle, are you a jerk?”
Benson’s expression darkened instantly, and he shot a cold glance at Yvonne.
His voice was laced with restrained anger, “What did you tell her?”
Before Yvonne could explain, Victoria stepped forward and unceremoniously pushed her son aside.
“Move, move, you’re just in the way.”
She gently patted Yvonne’s shoulder and then smiled at Emma.
“Your aunt knows karate. She’s really amazing.”
Victoria led Emma toward the dining room, with Emma glancing back frequently.
Her face was full of admiration as she looked at Yvonne, as if she were a
superhero who could do anything.
In the living room, only Yvonne and Benson were left.
The air was thick with a subtle tension as Benson slowly approached her, his gaze intense.
“I’ve thought about it all night,” he said, his voice weary and resigned, as if he had been through an emotional struggle.
Yvonne looked up at him directly. His eyes were still as clear and bright as
ever, like a spring in winter.
But now, those clear eyes held deep emotional turmoil, making her heart tremble slightly.
“Yvonne, I love you. I miss you so much it hurts to breathe.”
Benson’s voice was low and hoarse, as if each word was forced out, filled with
pain.
The deep longing and memories that had been haunting him finally overlapped with the reality of her presence, and his heart was filled with pain and guilt.
Yvonne remained calm, her gaze steady.
Looking at his tired, bloodshot eyes, her heart was surprisingly serene.
This calmness, like a mirror, reflected his inner turmoil even more clearly.
“I know it’s too late to say this now.”
Benson’s voice carried a hint of helplessness and regret as he lowered his head, as if bearing the weight of enormous internal pressure.
Yvonne sighed softly and spoke slowly. “Do you have time today?”
Benson’s tired eyes reddened slightly, his voice hoarse, “Today is Saturday. We can’t do it”
He knew she wanted to handle the divorce papers but tried to avoid bringing up the subject.
Yvonne didn’t seem disappointed; instead, she calmly said, “Usually, Sundays. are off, but around here, I think they’ll be open.
Benson was silent for a moment, then suddenly stepped forward and pulled her tightly into his arms.
He held her with such force that it seemed as though he wanted to fuse her into his very being.
“I’m not going,” he whispered, his tone filled with determination and
stubbornness.
Yvonne struggled to push him away, but no matter how hard she tried, his embrace felt like iron, locking her in place.
Her face flushed slightly with anger, her eyes flashing with a hint of irritation
“Benson, do you really want to do this? Argue here in the old house and worry your parents?”
Her tone was filled with reproach, her voice carrying a hint of restrained anger.
She looked like an angry little kitten, both cute and fierce.
Benson’s heart softened at her words, and he finally released her. “Fine, I’ll listen to you.”
His voice had a hint of compromise, but his eyes were still full of reluctance and pain.
Yvonne let out a sigh of relief, then stepped back a few paces, creating some distance between them.
She watched him warily, as if ready to defend herself against another sudden.
attack.
Benson saw her defensive stance, and a mix of emotions swirled in his heart- pain and helplessness.
He lowered his head slightly, his voice tinged with exhaustion, “We can’t do it today. But give me the divorce papers.”
Yvonne was momentarily taken aback, not expecting him to bring up the matter so directly.
She nodded, her tone indifferent, “Alright, I’ll have Megan give them to you.”
“No, I want you to give them to me personally,” Benson insisted, his tone firm, as if holding onto one last boundary.
Yvonne hesitated briefly but eventually nodded, not wanting to argue over such a small matter.
Breakfast time came, but the atmosphere at the table was somewhat tense.
Charles seemed to be in a particularly good mood.
He ate his breakfast with a smile, frequently casting appreciative and affectionate glances at Yvonne.
The walnut chess set had clearly been a hit, putting him in an especially good mood.
Benson, on the other hand, was unusually attentive, constantly peeling eggs for Yvonne and offering her the cheese she liked.
His movements were awkward, but they were filled with a strong sense of care.
and affection.
Victoria watched silently, sighing and shaking her head.
She couldn’t understand why her foolish son was suddenly trying so hard. Why
had he waited until now to come to his senses?
Yvonne ate very little, clearly not in the best of moods.
After breakfast, she took a moment to gather her courage and finally spoke to
Victoria.
“In the future, I won’t be coming by as often, but I’d still like to have tea or
meals with you. Is that okay?”
Victoria’s nose tingled, and her eyes reddened slightly.
She took Yvonne’s hand, her voice choked. “Of course, honey I’ve always said, whatever decision you make, I’ll support you. I’ll always be your backing.”
Yvonne gently hugged Victoria, tears of gratitude shining in her eyes. “Thank you for always being so kind to me.
Benson stood nearby, watching the scene with a clenched jaw and tightly balled fists.
He hadn’t slept all night and now looked utterly exhausted and worn out.
He spoke quietly, “I’ll take you home.
Yvonne nodded, and the two of them left the old house together, driving back to No. 6 Wutong Road to discuss their divorce.
In the car, Benson slouched in the passenger seat, resting his head against the window, half–asleep. Yvonne was driving, her expression focused, her cheeks soft and youthful.
Benson leaned back, watching her intently, not wanting to blink.
When they returned to Wutong Road, the documents were already on the coffee table in the living room.
Maria said her assistant had delivered them.
Yvonne told Maria to take care of other matters. But Benson said, “Take three days off, with pay.”
