Benson 29
Chapter 29 The Jerk
Marcus was doing everything he could to restore Yvonne’s precious brooch.
He reached out to all his contacts and connections, not missing any possible opportunity.
All this was to get in touch with the internationally renowned jewelry designer, Mr. Donald.
Marcus knew that only Mr. Donald, with his exceptional skills and unique understanding of and emotion for jewelry, could perfectly restore the brooch to its former glory.
His heart was full of hope. He wanted his efforts to bring Yvonne satisfaction and a smile, letting her feel his deep love and meticulous care.
He was willing to do anything for Yvonne, just to see her happy. This dedication and effort were the best proof of Marcus’s deep affection for Yvonne
Marcus’s transformation spread quietly through their social circle like a gentle spring rain.
The man
once known for his charming and carefree ways had now become a considerate, attentive boyfriend for Yvonne, a change as surprising as a warm sun in winter, astonishing his friends.
They talked about Marcus’s change, seeing it not just as a declaration of his feelings for Yvonne but as a transformation.
At Caesar Palace, one of the city’s most bustling entertainment venues, familiar faces gathered that evening.
Benson’s friend William sat nearby, listening to people talk about Marcus and Yvonne
Benson, meanwhile, was at the poker table, having an unusually good streak. His opponent, Matthew, was looking increasingly frustrated.
Finally, Matthew couldn’t hold back his emotions, slamming his cards down in anger: “Just because you’re losing in love doesn’t mean you should take it out on us!” His voice echoed in the room, sounding particularly harsh.
Willian quickly intervened, trying to lighten the mood: “Hey, what are you talking about? Benson losing in love?” His tone was light, trying to defuse the situation
Benson chuckled, a hint of self–mockery in his eyes. “When have I ever been in the game?” His voice was calm but carried an undercurrent of binemess.
“Didn’t you bring her dinner? William teased, trying to add some humor to the moment.
“Yeah, I did,” Benson admitted openly, without any attempt to hide it,
“That incident wasn’t easy to handle, right?” William referred to the time when Benson had to take Yvonne to the hospital due to the effects of some medication.
His tone carried a hint of reproach but also understanding and sympathy for Benson.
That unexpected incident, though caused merely by a medication side effect, had weighed heavily on Benson’s heart, making him realize the emptiness of relationships lacking genuine emotion.
Yet, every time he was alone at night, recalling that evening with Yvonne in his arms, he felt an indescribable urge
He remembered taking a long cold shower that night just to calm his body down.
He now agreed partially with William: such matters were not easy to control, especially when your partner was unwilling yet forced to comply, which easily stirred a desire for conquest,
“About the office building downtown where the gallery is opening, I’ll trade you for one of your buildings?” Benson suddenly shifted the topic to business, clearly trying to change the current atmosphere.
William looked surprised, staring sharply at Benson: “You’re not going back to Taylor Group?”
“Never planned to. Will you trade or not?” Benson’s tone was firm, showing no hesitation.
“Of course, buddy. If you say so, how can I refuse?” William shrugged, agreeing easily. He seemed to understand and support Benson’s decision.
At that moment, the door to the private room was abruptly pushed open. Marcus hurried in, loolding anxious and interrupting their conversation.
“Matthew, didn’t you once get a pair of rings custom–made by Mr. Donald?” Marcus asked directly, his voice urgent, clearly indicating the importance of the matter to him.
Matthew nodded, confirming the truth.
Those rings were indeed custom–made for Benson as a precious gift for someone he loved.
The fact that Marcus knew about this puzzled Matthew.
“Can you help me get in touch with Mr. Donald?” Marcus continued, his voice filled with urgency.
“Uh… I don’t know…” Matthew started to refuse, claiming not to law Mr. Donald, but felt a kick under the table,
Looking up, he saw Benson staring at him with a chilllig: goze, subtly nodding for him to agers.
“Alright, I’ll contact him for you. You want Mr. Donald to fix a brooch?” Matthew reluctantly agreed, lus voice hesitant.
Marcus nodded, confirming his request. “Yes, I know it’s complex to get Mr. Donald, but you always wanted that downtown property, right? I’ll sell it to
you at a low price.” His offer left Matthew speechless, not expecting Marcus to go to such lengths for this.
Matthew couldn’t help but wonder what Marcus’s true intentions were,
“Marcus, are you aware Yvonne isn’t single?” Matthew asked with concern, hoping: Marcus would be rational
“I know, but she and her partner aren’t getting along. I believe they’re breaking up.”
Marcus’s tone was confident, his eyes firm, seeing a potential future.
“Did Yvonne tell you that?” William interjected, his voice filled with skepticism.
“No, but I can feel it. She said we’d discuss our future once she sorted her personal matters. Isn’t that asking me to wait for her to break up so I can marry her?” Marcus’s plan seemed clear, his eyes shining with hope.
William sighed, “Marcus, Yvonne isn’t breaking up.”
“Why?” Marcus was puzzled, frowning, hoping for an answer from William
“The jerk realized how good she is. Don’t belleve me? Ask Benson. William’s words were filled with irony, his gaze turning to Benson
“Benson, who’s the jerk?” Marcus turned to Benson, seeking the truth. His voice carried urgency, needing to know the reality.
