Chapter 47 Misunderstandings of Power
Yvonne’s refusal was swift and resolute, without a hint of hesitation, causing Megan to sigh.
She had witnessed Yvonne step into marriage with high hopes and had also seen her endure its loneliness.
When Yvonne’s husband, Benson, finally returned, Yvonne seemed to have lost all enthusiasm for the marriage.
Megan noticed that whenever Benson was mentioned, the joy that once sparkled in Yvonne’s eyes was gone.
Megan felt a deep sympathy and sorrow for Yvonne.
Yvonne’s current state reminded Megan of the time over six years ago when Yvonne’s father, John, passed away unexpectedly.
Back then, Yvonne seemed as fragile as glass, ready to shatter at any moment, which pained everyone around her.
However, she didn’t break down in her grief but instead, comforted her mourning mother while handling her father’s affairs with strength.
Yvonne always accepted whatever fate handed her, struggling and persevering despite the challenges, bravely moving forward.
“If you don’t go, might you miss the chance to replace out who’s behind all this?” Megan’s voice was low, her brow furrowed.
‘The mastermind won’t be easy to replace. Let’s wait a bit longer.” Yvonne’s voice was calm and firm, showing she had a deeper understanding of the situation.
She knew that every step in this game was crucial; one wrong move could mean total defeat.
Seeing that Yvonne had a plan, Megan stopped trying to persuade her and went back to her own tasks.
Half an hour later, George hurried in. Megan, seeing him, said irritably, “Miss Yvonne isn’t going.”
George looked anxious and argued, “Can she really not go? Do you know what’s being said out there? They’re saying Yvonne is throwing her weight around with the Taylor family’s backing, acting all high and mighty, even though it’s her shipment that’s the problem. People are coming to resolve it, and she’s shutting them out.”
Megan’s anger flared at these words.
She thought Zoe was truly shameless, able to twist the truth like this.

She fumed, “Haven’t they thrown enough dirt on Yvonne over the years? If we clarified every single thing, we’d get nothing else done. Now I understand why Yvonne is so adamant about not going. It’s bad enough that others misun stand her, but Benson himself….
Megan lowered her voice and continued, “Even Benson thinks it’s Yvonne’s fault, doesn’t he? Going would just make things worse!”
George tried to explain, “No, Benson doesn’t mean that.
But Megan was no longer interested in listening: she turned and walked away, leaving George to sigh alone.
George raised his voice in frustration, “Ask Miss Yvonne if she wouldn’t regret it if Marcus got into trouble because of this.”
Megan frowned, wavering a bit.
Yvonne, having heard everything, felt puzzled, “What’s Marcus got to do with this?”
Benson clearly wasn’t involved with the Taylor Group anymore, nor was he in the trade circle, he shouldn’t be getting involved in this mess.
But Zoe had somehow found out that Yvonne was his mother’s goddaughter, and so she went through numerous connections to approach Matthew.
Matthew didn’t pay much attention, but the rumor had already spread out of control.
Even if Yvonne came forward to clarify, it wouldn’t necessarily solve all the problems.
Matthew asked Benson, “Are you just going to keep this up with Yvonne, neither together nor apart?”
Benson’s response was exasperatingly flippant, “Why should I leave when I haven’t had enough fun?”
Matthew shook his head helplessly, “Man, what did you learn abroad these three years? You’ve turned so bad. Even if you want to keep her around, shouldn’t you make sure she’s
happy?”
Reflecting on their unpleasant past, Benson began to wonder if his own bad mood had affected Yvonne’s happiness.
So, Benson decided to help Yvonne solve her problems, attempting to “cheer her up.
In the private room, the air felt thick and oppressive.
Besides Zoe, there were several key figures in the trade circle, their faces a mix of anticipation and impatience.
They had expected Yvonne to arrive punctually, but as time passed, their frustration grew, like a fuse burning closer to an explosion.

“Yvonne hasn’t changed; still as arrogant as ever,” a middle–aged man grumbled.
“She’s young, running such a big business. It’s inevitable,” another person tried to replace an
excuse for Yvonne.
“Benson, I mean no offense, but take Anthony for example. In the 90s, when dried fruit exports were just starting, the Anthony family conted the pricing. How did he end up in such a dispute with Yvonne and get put away? They say Yvonne refused to mediate,” a well- dressed woman interjected, implying that Yvonne was throwing her weight around using the Taylor family’s influence.
Benson leaned back lazily in his seat, a trace of amusement in his eyes. “Oh? Yvonne’s that unreasonable?”
“We’re all business partners. Why make things so unpleasant?” another man attempted to ease the tension.
Benson nodded, “You’re all right. In business, there are no enemies His tone carried a hint of helplessness, as if he also found Yvonne’s actions puzzling
Just then, Yvonne walked in, causing a slight stir among everyone, creating an awkward
silence
Yvonne’s gaze swept over everyone present, her eyes cold and resolute, making it hard for anyone to meet her eyes
Benson looked up slightly, staring at Yvonne.
A complex mix of emotions surged within him, a blend of disappointment and confusion
He noticed that the warmth and concern that once filled Yvonne’s eyes were gone, she no longer followed his every move with the same attentiveness
His absence from home didn’t seem to matter to her anymore, this change felt like a cold wind, quietly invading his heart
He recalled the past, when Yvonne would anxiously wait for him whenever he came home late, calling and messaging constantly. Her care was like warm sunshine, illuminating his nights
But now, everything had changed. During his absence, Yvonne seemed to carry on as usual, her world unaffected by his absence.
This feeling of being overlooked filled Benson with an inexplicable sense of loss.
Zoe, seeing Yvonne, immediately hooked her arm, her face plastered with a smile, Yvonne, finally you’re here. Please, let’s resolve this matter. Her tone was flattering, clearly trying to smooth things over for Yvonne’s arrival
Zoe had set the stage well; most people in the circle believed Yvonne was bullying others with her influence
