Lena's

POV

This is exhausting. All this back and forth with me as the middleman is ridiculous. I hate this so much. Jana still scares me, and I do not look forward to telling her what he said. I know that it is the final answer. He is not going to give them money. I pray that she is willing to accept it. She is going to have to scramble to try to replace someone who is willing to help us with this. I am nervous because that means that someone else is about to get involved. With each new person, the chance of my being exposed gets greater. I shudder to think what Jaxon will do to me if he ever replaces out.

I am out here again, alone in the dark, and it is almost as scary as it was last night. I texted her in an effort to keep us from having to meet out here tonight. She wanted to meet face to face despite my misgivings about it. I shivered as I knew I was not out here alone. I could feel eyes on me. I couldn't wait to get back to my room. I didn't want to do this anymore. I think that calling them from the safety of my room was the best route to take going forward.

"We're here," Jana's voice called out to me. I could see two figures walking towards me between the two buildings. How had she been able to get someone else this quickly? No matter how scared I was, I needed to make sure that this new person was not going to double-cross us. "Hey, Jana," I replied and looked at her friend.

"Anika," she replied.

"Hi, Anika. Do you know why we are here?" I asked her carefully.

"Jana told me. I know. I am sure you have doubts, but Jana is my only friend and roommate here. If she is leaving, I am, too. I don't want to stay behind. They would torture me to see if I was in on it, so I might as well replace a new place to live. It is safer for us to stay together elsewhere than live on the streets. People are fearful of our kind, but Jana and I are only truly dangerous at night," Anika replied.

It doesn't fail to hit me that I am voluntarily standing out here with two very dangerous vampires, which reminded me. "From now on, so we don't get caught together, I want us to call each other. So we don't leave a trail for everyone to replace. OK?" I asked them. I cannot put my neck on the line like this again.

"It is smarter not to leave anyone to overhear or confront us. What did he say? Is he in? Or do we need to leave now? I am positive that Alexei is having us followed. I lost them yesterday, but I know that we are being trailed tonight. So we need to get this done quickly," Jana replied. She nodded at her friend, who walked quietly down to the other end of the buildings to act as a lookout. They were being very cautious. I realized that if I were seen, it would be all over for me.

"He said that he would be willing to build you the home that you wanted outside his pack. He would also provide protection for you as well, but he wanted a guarantee," I advised. "What does he want from us?" Jana asked with a frown.

"He asked if Alexei and his vampires came to attack his pack, and he wanted you and Anika to help them fight them. He is willing to go to war to keep them in his pack, but he realizes that they will lose several more warriors without your assistance," I replied.

"It is good that he acknowledges that he needs us because he does. We will be happy to help him and his people against Alexei. If he trusts us, he can build our home inside the pack. He can put it far away from the area his people are in so they can rest easier. We will not harm them. If we hunt, we will go outside their walls. We want to live out our lives how we want to live. Alexei's team is conceited and over-valued. They can be killed, just like we can. Calling each other is fine. I am sure that Alexei is about to try to kick me out. He didn't realize that he was forcing Anika to choose sides by cutting me loose. Despite him wanting to kick us out. We can still easily jump over the wall when it is time to come and get them," Jana told me.

"I only have one concern, and I don't know if you have thought of it yet. Can you deal with Ivan? He could ruin our plans by seeing what we are up to. Have you thought about that? Can something be done?" I asked. I don't want him dead, but I also don't want to take a chance of being caught in the act. That would not end well for any of us.

"Anika and I will be dealing with him. I already have that well in hand. I can assure you that he will not be a problem after tomorrow. I need to see what we can do to bind Cara's powers. We can't have her preventing us from getting this done. I may need you to pick up whatever it is. I wouldn't meet a dark witch after dark, so it has to be done during the day. They can't be trusted. Also, I would suggest that you don't go alone. Take a friend with you, just to be safe. You can't trust a witch," Jana advised.

"I don't want to meet another witch. As far as I am concerned, we have three too many of them at Black Adder already. Don't forget we have to deal with Cara's mother too. She is nothing to play with, she is very strong. We will probably need more bindings for her mother than for her. What could Cara possibly learn in two weeks' time?" I pointed out. I had no faith in Cara. I am not even scared of her. I have seen nothing special about her nor sensed any real power from her.

"If her mother is strong, then Cara will be strong, too. Don't be fooled, Lena. It doesn't matter how long she has been at it. If she is trying to learn, she will. You can't even see what she is doing in there. She may know much more than we think she does," Jana warned me. "Look, you just attacked her yourself. All she could do was put up a shield. Big deal. She could have put a spell on you or tried to freeze you in place until the sun came out and killed you. If she was strong, there would be many things she could do. Let's think about this rationally for a minute. She knew you meant to kill her but could only produce a protection spell. I think you are way over-estimating her," I scoffed in disbelief.

"I think that you are way under-estimating her. Are you willing to bet your life on it?" Jana fired back.

"Good point. I guess we will need something for both of them. We may also need some wolfsbane for their mates and something to try to slow Alexei down. I can get some wolfsbane from the armory. I can help Dad with the next rotation of ammunition this weekend. They do it once a month. They open up the gun armory to get that done. They have started using wolfsbane on bullets, as it is cheaper and less obvious than using silver bullets. The effects are just as deadly. I will get a jar of it for us to use in their drinks for the ceremony. I think dosing all the ranked wolves will slow everyone down enough to get it done," I suggested.

"I agree, but just do a little bit. It will be just enough to mess with their reaction times and slow them down. It will also affect Alexei and his men as well. You will only need enough to spike the punch or whatever drinks they are serving. So be sure to take enough to be able to do that. You don't want to do so much that it is obvious, or else it could come back on you. Also, we will need whatever funds that the dark witch will need as payment. I won't have the funds to pay it, but it should be less than ten thousand dollars. The Alpha should have enough to take care of that. It is a paltry sum for him to have to pay to get his beloved witch back," Jana announced.

We were on the same page in this, as I didn't have that kind of money either. She knew I was just as invested in this as she was. I had to trust them, at least until we were done with our plan. "If he does kick you out, either Phillip or I will put you up at a hotel until the plan goes into action. I had already kind of asked Phillip what the guard situation would look like that night. He said the bare minimum of two gate guards. Jaxon wants everyone available to be at the Luna ceremony to commemorate the occasion. With Kevin and his people here, Jaxon has lowered his guard too much. There will only be two patrols containing two warriors for the whole pack area. That will make it easier for us to get them to the fence. Maybe you can get more out of him when you see him. We don't want him trying to figure out why we want to know. He would immediately suspect me if I asked him anything else," I stated.

"We can call or text each other until the night before the ceremony. We have to meet in person that night to make sure that we have everything figured out. We can't have any slip-ups. Alexei would kill us on the spot if we were to be caught in the act. He really thinks he loves her, and he is willing to kill for her. I believe that both Jaxon and Kevin feel the same way. Since this is your pack, it is up to you to figure out exactly how we will get this done. We need to get them from the packhouse to the spot where we meet them undetected. So, you figure it out, and let us know what we need to do," Jana said as she walked back over to where her friend was. They slipped back into the woods, heading back towards their coven.

I didn't want to have the weight of the plan all on me. I have to ensure that my name never comes up in the investigation. It won't matter if anyone suspects Jana or her friend. They will fly out with the rest of the group right after returning to the airport. I will have to make sure that I have an airtight alibi. I also have to make sure that everything is ready to go that day. I haven't figured out how to get them out of the packhouse yet. I need to pay more attention and figure out the best way to get it done. I am too close to achieving my goals to allow anything to take it away from me now.
