Bride of the vampire
Chapter twenty

Damien meticulously cleaned his gun, determined to rid his mind of Crystal. But the more he tried to forget her, the more her face invaded his thoughts. Frustrated, he let out a sigh.

Lucian alerted him to a car parked outside the club. "Let's go, Max," Damien whispered, stepping out of his car and pulling his hood over his head.

The mysterious man exited his car and headed straight into the club. Damien and Max approached the man's vehicle together. Damien retrieved a blade, puncturing the tires one by one, watching as they deflated. Just as he was about to return to his car, a bullet whizzed past his ear, grazing it slightly.

"Shit," he cursed.

"Take cover, Max!" he yelled, quickly seeking refuge behind the car.

"What's happening, Damien?" Max asked anxiously.

"Shouldn't you be asking your foolish father?" Damien yelled angrily.

Damien muttered nonchalant words as t

he gunshots grew closer.

"That bastard Lucas told me. The man is just a common man," he whispered angrily.

"Get out of here. These men are dangerous," Damien said to Max.

"But lor...," Max tried to speak.

"I gave you an order. Are you trying to defy me??" Damien growled at him.

Max looked at him with pleading eyes as he slowly stood up. Damien shot at the men trying to cover for Max.

Damien kept firing shots at them until he ran out of bullets.

"Shit!!"

Something was wrong!

He gasped! His powers! He couldn't access them.

"Sathanas," he tried calling out his demon, but nothing appeared.

"Why are my powers not working?," he thought.

"Oh, looks like you're powerless," someone said, pointing a gun at him.

"Long time no see, Damien," the man said.

Damien found himself surrounded by men, all wearing masks, including their boss. He couldn't identify any of them.

"Who are you?" Damien asked.

"Oh, my dear Vampire, the question should be, 'What have you done to me?"" the masked man replied.

"You know, it took me a thousand years to master the spell that would stop your powers from working. So much blood was wasted because you kept gaining more powers," the masked man explained.

Damien chuckled.

"I'm Don, your worst nightmare."

"Father, father!" Max yelled.

"Young man, stop screaming in my house," my father said.

"Why are you here at midnight?" his father asked.

"What was that about?" he asked.

"What's that?"

"Don't act like you don't know," Max growled angrily.

"You won't understand it now, but just know I did this for you," he said.

"What did you do for me exactly?" Max tried not to think that his father lured Damien into a trap.

"Look Max, you have to understand. Don is dangerous. He's more powerful than Damien. If I don't work for him, he will kill you and me. Working for him is the only way to save ourselves. Both Damien and his family are in danger. No matter how powerful Damien is, he's no match for Don."

Max stared at his father in disbelief.

"What...what?" he stuttered.

"How can you betray your best friend? Damien is like a son to you, for goodness sake. His father is your best friend. How can you do this to your best friend's son?" Max whispered.

"He is not my best friend. If he was, he would never have taken Claire away from me. I loved her first, but he stole her away from me. Do you call that friendship?" Lucian yelled angrily. "Claire? Damien's mother?" Max asked.

"I don't have time to answer any of your questions. From now on, you won't be working with Damien again," his father Lucas said.

"I'd rather die than betray Damien like you betrayed his father. Do you think I will work for Don?" Max yelled.

"He will end up killing us if we are of no use to him again. And Damien? Do you fucking know he put his life on the line to save me? He fucking saved your son," he cried silently.

His father had always been his role model because he was strong and fearless. The same father who taught him never to betray people just betrayed someone.

How could he take out the anger he had for his father on his son?

"How can you do this, father? Mr. Montenegro trusts you the most. How can you betray him like this?" Max asked.

"I already told you. You won't be working with..."

"I won't stop working with Damien. I will not stop being loyal to him. Even if I have to sacrifice my life for him. Today, I cut all ties with you, Lucas," Max said, calling his father by his name.

"I, Max Santiago, have nothing to do with you, Lucian Santiago. There will be no father-son relationship between us again. As of now, we are nothing but strangers. I shall not be a son of betrayal. Goodbye, father." Without waiting for his father's response, Max left.
