Chapter 106

Siran rubbed his temples early in the morning. His head hurt so much he thought it was going to explode and he couldn’t concentrate on his work, and he had plenty of it. The events of the night haunted his mind and he couldn’t separate what was true from a dream. It had all happened so fast it was confusing.

He growled in alarm at the two wolves in front of him waiting for documents to be signed, they backed away accordingly. Siran was a wolf with a complicated temper, but he was always in control of himself, so seeing him in this state was a novelty.

-Hey, don’t harass my guards,” Leoxi’s voice boomed as the wolf came through the door.

Siran raised his head and raised an eyebrow.

-I have no need to harass anyone,” he replied gruffly.

-Woof, a certain wolf got up with his left paw,” Leoxi squealed and, passing by the two wolves, waved them out, “I’ll take care of it,” he muttered and they both got out with their tails between their legs before they fell victim… to whatever it was.

The commander turned to the beta with a grimace on his face.

-What?” Siran clicked his tongue at the twin’s stare.

-What’s wrong with you? It’s not normal for you to be like this. You’re the most… focused of us all. Even with this situation my brother’s going through-

Siran dropped his head into his hands and sighed. Leoxi was pretty straightforward when he put his mind to it and it was hard to hide things from him.

-Today at night… something really strange happened,” he pressed his lips into a fixed line feeling the other wolf sit on the edge of the table and cross his arms over his broad chest. It wasn’t easy to talk about his intimate problems but he felt that if he didn’t do it he would explode.

Leoxi blinked several times with an unhinged face when she heard him say that.

-Wait, wait, I expected anything but that. You? Having s*x with Sara? But he’s spent the last few years treating her like a flea? Leoxi didn’t understand… until he looked at the beta’s face. Did you…” – from astonishment he started to laugh out loud.

-Don’t laugh,” Siran growled, “I knew I shouldn’t have said anything to you. You’re not serious.

Leoxi made an effort to stop laughing and straighten up.

-You’re telling me you treat her like that because you’re shy, aren’t you? Are you ashamed?

Siran’s face took on a reddish hue the commander had never seen before.

-I… I just don’t know how to behave in front of her. Sara is the Alpha’s protégé, I’m her Beta. And she’s too much.” Siran justified himself uselessly.

-Innocent? -Leoxi finished the sentence making the beta drop his shoulders tiredly- Look how stupid you are. The she-wolf is crazy about you. She’s been telling you that ever since she met you. I don’t know why you limit yourself with her.

-You wouldn’t understand.

-No, I don’t understand, are you in love with her?” Leoxi blurted out, completely serious.

Siran raised his face so fast that his cervical thundered.

-I… I,” the words stuck in his throat.

A smile appeared on the twin wolf’s lips.

-You’re crazy about her,” he nodded.

Siran froze. It was one thing if he was thinking it, but it was quite another if someone told him and made him aware that yes, he really was in love with her. It had taken him years of sweat to admit it and a lot of persecution from the she-wolf.

He ran his hand over his head and the images of the night before came back to haunt him.

-There’s still something else,” the commander questioned him with his gaze.

Siran leaned back against the back of his seat.

-Last night I woke up suddenly when I had my o****m. It felt so real I couldn’t help but open my eyes. And God, it had been real.

-Soyyyyy?” Leoxi was getting desperate.

-What when I opened my eyes there was a person with me in my bed. It wasn’t just a dream. Someone made me o****m.

Leoxi grimaced in acceptance.

-And who was it?

Siran shook his head.

-I don’t know. I was confused at the time, my wild side was more awake and out of control, and I attacked. It was a natural reaction to noticing that someone was in my room.

Leoxi opened his mouth.

-Did you attack her?

Siran nodded.

-I couldn’t help it. I only reacted after my mind had cleared.

-Tell me you know who she is. You must have seen or smelled her.

-I don’t know.” Siran looked frustrated. “My pupils were dilated from the transformation, and my pheromones were so thick they flooded the room and dulled all scent of the other wolf.

Leoxi pursed his lips.

-What? What do you want to tell me,” the beta pressed.

Leoxi ran his hand through his dark hair.

-Well, yesterday one of the guards saw someone come out of your room and run down the corridor,” he said.

Siran rose from his seat.

-Who was it?

Leoxi stared at him.

-It was Sara…

Siran slumped back in his chair with a thud. Of all people it was precisely Sara who had been in his room. At the worst time. And not only that. If he remembered correctly… he had attacked her. He had hurt her. She flinched but before she could speak the door was suddenly opened.

A wolf rushed in, panting and his face flooded with panic.

-Beta, commander, bad news!

And the two of them knew what had happened.

The two wolves ran to where they knew the disaster was happening and the scene they saw was so familiar that they could only approach. Hades was leaning against the wall outside the room where the she-wolf carrying his pup was resting. But he was far from happy. Rather, his shoulders were shaking and his dark hair covered his leaning face.

-Leoxi came up to him and tapped him on the shoulder.

-The same again, Leoxi,” the alpha’s voice was broken. His face couldn’t be seen but his brother was sure he was crying.

It wouldn’t be the first time, but it was always very painful when the pup he was waiting for died during pregnancy or during childbirth.

No one said anything, the few wolves that were there remained silent until the door opened. Cesar came out crestfallen, wiping his bloodstained hands on a handkerchief.

Alpha, the she-wolf is very weak due to the complications of the birth. The cub… didn’t make it,” his tone of voice dropped.

Hades just swallowed dryly without moving. More everyone could see his body trembling. Once again the alpha was deprived of offspring even though he wanted it so badly.

-Hades,” Sara’s voice was heard along with his footsteps running down the hallway.

She didn’t have to wait to be told what was happening to know.

-Hades,” her voice was very soft as she stopped in front of him and touched his arm.

But Hades growled and moved away from everyone. So fast that they couldn’t react and transforming his body he flew out of the window splintering it into thousands of fragments. Both Caesar and Leoxi ran to the window and watched him walk away in pain. It was always the same pattern, so they knew it was still going on.

There was only one person who could get close to him in the coming days of the alpha’s depression. So Sara hurried down the hallway to follow him when his arm was grabbed by thick fingers.

A whimper of pain escaped her lips and she tried to pull away, turning and noticing that it had been Siran who had grabbed her. The she-wolf blanched.

-Sara…” the beta moved towards her but that only made Sara back up and run away, leaving him stunned.

The wolf had intentions of falling back. A strange feeling stirred inside him that told him not to let her go at that moment. But she was going to comfort the alpha so he didn’t hold her back. Still he was not comfortable. He had seen fear in her eyes for a few seconds. Fear of him.

And that and the bandaged wound he had seen on her arm verified that she had been the wolf that had been in his room.
