A silence icier than the cold wind blowing in behind the newcomers pervaded the room. All faces had turned and were looking intently at the arrival of their queen, and it was not because it was her, but because of the company at her side. If Layan, one of the most influential wolves of them all, if not the most, was beside her, it was for a reason.

Hades stared at them. His chest pounded knowing that his queen was back and alive. Waking up and not seeing her and only uncertainty around him had made his head a mess.

-What do you mean it was Liam,” he spoke at last. His tone was neutral, cold, not at all condescending, this didn’t bother Nebraska.

-What I said, alpha,” he raised his eyes confidently, “Liam was the one who planned the whole thing.

-It wasn’t Rudoc,” Leoxi appeared at her brother’s side, his brow painfully furrowed.

-Rudoc is dead,” she replied, a collective exclamation but it was dulled by Layan’s growl as he began to get annoyed by the questioning.

-Their intention is to take control of the iron pack, that’s why they killed their alpha,” Layan continued, if he supported her there was no one who could overturn her words.

-So who poisoned the alpha,” one of the wolves stepped forward knowing he was putting his life in danger, “Wasn’t it you queen,” there was contempt in his voice, “It would be so easy and convenient to assassinate our alpha and take over our pack, that’s why you freed Rudoc and Catalina who was locked up and now you want to blame Liam, you think we are stupid.

A murmur became more audible in the room, even some growls. Nebraska didn’t flinch and held up a hand stopping Layan who had intentions of lunging at him.

-You’re right, it would be very convenient,” she said disinterestedly.

-Nebraska,” Layan warned her, impressed by her response, but her gaze silenced him, she wasn’t so weak as to be intimidated.

-But tell me, how would it benefit me to go back to Rudoc? That wolf is not worth the sole of my shoe, besides,” she pressed her lips together before saying the next words, “He devoured Catalina in front of my eyes,” no one spoke, “Do you know the pain of a puppy being killed in front of you and you can’t even move to save it,” her teeth were gritting as she remembered the helplessness, but she used all her willpower to calm down, “Eating the flesh of your children, although it is a taboo for us gives the wolves a new perception of power. Liam planned this and devoured Rudoc’s heart and absorbed his power.

-Is that possible?” Leoxi was stunned by what she said.

-Liam is a recessive omega.

They all looked at each other in confusion and she was expecting that reaction.

-Alpha – this time she turned to her husband – As you know recessive omegas feed on alphas, he is extremely strange even for me who am also an omega. He destroyed my father’s and uncle’s dynasty and planned everything that happened in the pack, as well as pulled their strings so that they would be poisoned and I would look like the guilty one.

Hades said nothing, analysing the situation thoroughly.

-That’s a lie,” someone else said accusingly, “You have no proof, if it wasn’t for Layan’s beta our alpha would have died.

-It’s true that my beta was the one who sent the antidote, but she was the one who got it,” a silence fell. No matter how much they distrusted him, no one would dare challenge him.

Nebraska sighed, he had no choice. She turned around and pulled her blouse over her head, covering her chest but leaving her back exposed, specifically, the large, ugly tooth scar that refused to go away. A whimper came from the mouth of one and Hades had to clench his hands and hold himself in place so as not to walk out to where she was. How badly had she been hurt for such a wound not to be healing? And more so with the skill of the wolf next to her, to whom she looked and he responded with a nod of his head.

-This is the mark I was left with after confronting Liam after he ate Rudoc’s heart. I received it while collecting the antidote and what was left of my daughter,” he focused over his shoulder, “It hurts, it burns, it may not close, but I still asked Layan’s beta, who discovered me nearly dying, to bring the antidote to his alpha and my son. Layan can corroborate the state he found me in,” she turned around, pulling her blouse back into place and hiding the pain it caused her, “But if you still don’t believe me, you can come for my neck and kill me, I won’t stand in the way,” she said.

But no one moved. They were still shocked by the wound on her body, something none of them would wish for. Feelings of shame began to bloom among the herd until Hades’ voice echoed.

-And he’s not lying, I could tell by the mark on his neck, after all, we have a bond,” once the alpha spoke they all felt calmer. Hades would not let anyone, not even his queen make an attempt on the life of the pack, if he said she wasn’t lying it was because she was.

The pack turned to Nebraska and bowed collectively in apology, and though the omega was sure that there were still doubts among them and that this was a mere formality, she felt a little more relaxed. She lowered her head when someone took her hand. A small pup smiled at her despite his red eyes and red nose.

-The queen is here, the queen is here, will she play with me again?

Nebraska bowed her head slightly and ruffled his hair.

-Sure, anytime.

Hades walked towards her as he gave the order for everyone to return to their tasks and the wolf’s corpse was picked up. With the arrival of Nebraska they had to organise the new facts to know how to react. Caesar came up behind him, he wanted to get a closer look at the wound even though he knew his verdict would not be satisfactory.

-I want to talk to you alone, come with me to the office, then you can see your children.

-I think there is some business to settle first Hades,” Layan went to step in front of the omega.

-It will be quick,” Nebraska interrupted and followed her husband even though she was a little tired and hot to the bone.

Seeing Hades’ back in front of her made her feel comforted, happy. He was alive, so that meant her son was too. She smiled slightly relieved. She had made it in time. Hades let her into the office without saying a word to her the whole way, but as the door closed an arm went around her waist and her husband’s lips rested on hers with such raw hunger that Nebraska was surprised.

He pressed her tight against him, devoured her, bit her l*p, claimed her tongue with his, wouldn’t give her a second’s respite as if she would disappear from his side. Nebraska recoiled unconsciously and her back hit the wood of the door, drawing a m**n from inside Hades’ mouth and he had to slap her shoulders.

The alpha broke away in alarm and pulled her back to him, resting his forehead against hers, panting.

-I’m sorry, I was too abrupt,” he took a breath, “I thought he was really lost, when I saw you walk in the door by myself…I know it’s not the time, but I need you Nebraska, I really need you…” The omega understood his words.

The omega understood her words and felt the magnitude of Sulobo’s distress. She wrapped her arms around his neck and pushed herself up, wrapping her legs around his waist, seeking his lips again. Hades grabbed her buttocks and pressed her against the e******n that had long since formed and pulled her towards his desk, sitting her on the edge.

-I won’t be able to be gentle this time,” he confessed against her lips, “But I promise I’ll take all the time in the world later to make you reach for heaven.

Nebraska wrapped her arms around him confidently and smiled against his neck.

-Don’t feel bad, my wolf, after all,” she kissed his lips feeling blessed to have him by her side, “I’m yours.
