Captured By A Ruthless Vampire King -
|17|~Duty Calls~
Unedited.
Embry POV.
“Kaya should be headed in your direction as well. She demanded to partake in the war,” she says, officially sending ice cycles to my soul.
No! No! No!
“Uncle Maddox was totally against it of course,” Celine continues to yap off. “But she quickly managed to persuade him. I’ve never been so proud of her.”
“No,” I scream inside of Celine's head. “Mind-link with her now. Tell them to cease attack at once.” My heart is pounding so loud I can hear the pace of the beat. The world around me is spinning. My wolf once again is clawing to get out.
“Embry, it’s okay,” she starts to attempt to calm me down. “The bloodsucker King will not see it coming. He will fall.”
Oh, no he won’t. They have no idea what they have signed up for.
My family’s overconfidence never ceases to amaze me. Freaking, unbelievable!
“It’s not just one bloodsucker king that they have to worry about, it’s three.” My wolf growls. “The Cold-Hearted King is present and The King Of All Vampire Kings is present. They are all in danger.” I inform her.
My wolf's announcement provokes an audible silence. I know the information that I provided Celine with is a lot to take in. No, scratch that! Just a single thought about having to face one of the Kings is enough to have any wolf shaking like a leaf.
So imagine how it feels to learn that you are up against three that’s enough to scare any wolf to death.
I don’t have to be in Celine’s presence to know that she is currently smacking her forehead with her right hand over and over again, just like how she doesn’t need to be here beside me to know that I’m currently biting my bottom lip.
That’s what we do when we're worried, frustrated, or flustered. Both of us know each other well enough to know that.
I also know that’s she mad at the fact that I cursed at her. Well, she’s not really made at me per se, more like she’s mad at my wolf. I can practically feel her white as snow wolf growling lowly at my wolf.
Celine is my favorite but she is still a Wilde. She absolutely hates to be challenged, and she is competitive by nature. It doesn’t really bother me. I know that she can’t help it but her attitude sometimes tends to piss off my wolf.
“If you don’t stop biting your bottom lip you're going to leave small puncture marks,” teases Celine, and I slightly giggle. I told you that she knows me.
“Are you done beating up your forehead,” I tease back.
“For now,” she responds with a deep sigh.
Another moment of audible silence passes between the two of us before Celine decides to speak up again.
“I can’t reach anyone,” Celine reports in a whisper. “The amount of silver that they used must have shut down some of their senses.”
Silver? How much silver did they inject into their selves? “Where is aunt Elena,” I start to panic. “Maybe she can reach them. She’s a lot older than you. Maybe she can reach them.”
“She has Jenkins,” informs Celine in a rush.
I don’t want to tell her. You know how she is. She will panic.”
She’s right. Aunt Elena will most certainly go under cardiac arrest if she knows how big of a threat Kaya was actually facing.
“What about Aunt Elena mate,” I question. “Uncle Jacob,”
He is Aunt Elena's second chance mate and Kaya’s dad. He’s a warrior wolf, but most of the time he says on Pack Ground during attacks. Aunt Elena made him promise that he won’t go off to war unless it’s necessary. Well, Kaya tagging along to declare war is certainly a necessary reason for him to run off to war.
“He is with them. There was no way that he was going to allow Kaya to go anywhere without him tagging along,” Celine tells what I already know.
“And Ryan,” I don’t even know why I ask if Kaya is here. Ryan is here.
“He’s with them as well,” she states the obvious.
She has to be able to reach somebody. Anybody!
Anybody other than me. The Northern Pack is filled with lethal warriors. Surely, she can reach somebody. “Okay,” I try not to sound panicked. “Did you try Blue, Aztec, Lance, Morris, Minks,-”
“I tried everyone,” shouts Celine. “Everyone that you could possible think of. They are all unreachable.”
Oh, for Goddess freaking sake! This is absolutely absurd were officially doomed. I gently bang my head on the ground to add a dramatic effect. What the heck are we supposed to do?
“You know what must be done,” advise my wolf. I can feel the color drain from my face. Oh, No... No... No... She can’t mean what I think she means. “Yes, I do mean exactly what you think I mean,” she confirms.
“You must warn them,” my wolf and Celine says at the same time.
Don’t ask me why they are both officially labeled coco for cocoa puffs, crazy!
“You know perfectly well that I can’t,” I tell Celine, deciding to ignore my wolf altogether. If she wants to play captain save the doomed, she’s going to have to take over and this time I’m not going down without a fight.
I didn’t survive all of this mental and physical abuse just to willingly go rushing into the lion dens and die.
“But you have to Embry,” demands Celine. “There is no other way. You have to warn them. You just have to.”
“Celine do you hear yourself. There are three monsters in there. Not one, or two, but three!”
“Yeah, you’re right,” she surprisingly agrees. “I’m asking you to go save my pack, our family but most importantly my sister from those three monsters that you're referring too because you are the only wolf in close approximate who can,” Celine snaps and my wolf growls in approval.
“You’re the only Wolf who stands a chance of taking them down and if you don’t just about everyone that you named will die.”
“I will die,” I whisper. “You know like I know that I’m no match for any of them. Of course, I don’t want anything to happen to them but I’m too afraid to face them,” I tell her the truth.
“Your wrong,” I can now hear the presence of her wolf. “You are a Wilde Embry. Kaya’s life depends on it,” she continues to persuade.
“I’ve never asked you to do anything. She is my sister. I know that you’re afraid. I’m scared too but it’s time to face your fear.”
She is right. I would never be able to live with myself if something happened to any of them, especially Kaya. Her life is only in danger because of me. If it wasn’t for my misfortune.
She wouldn’t be here. It’s my duty to save them... to save her.
With my mind made up, I look to my left and right to make sure that the coast is still clear and then I roll from underneath the car. I can still hear all the chaos occurring all over the city. It doesn’t seem like anything is calming down any time soon. It has really just begun if anything.
“Embry,” calls out Celine. “Are you still there?”
I can feel her fear.
“Yes, I’m going to save Kaya. I’m going to save them all. I love you,” I tell her before shutting down our line of communication, if I’m going to do this I’ve got to focus.
On that note, I take a deep whiff of the air and the strong woodsy aroma mingled with many distinctive scent invades my nostrils. Wolves.
Without further ado, I break off into a full-fledged sprint only to come to a complete halt when I realize one key point thing. I smack my head in a dramatic effect once again as I take a look at myself in some fancies shop window.
I’m naked, completely bare and literally visualizing my wolf beaming a wolfish grin inside of my head. She likes to be naked.
First things first I say to myself, I must replace some clothes. My wolf makes a weird noise inside of my head that kind of sounds like laughter. See, I told you. She really is coco for cocoa puffs. Insane!
The very moment I found some clothes I broke back out into a full-fledged sprint, relying on my sense of smell to lead the way.
I’ve been traveling in a have phase state, meaning I’m halfway between human and werewolf. This way, I can utilize my advanced sense of sight and smell but also sense in upcoming threats. I’d figure that it’s best to stay in my human form because a she-wolf running through the city would bring forth unwanted attention.
Typically, vampires would be able to detect a werewolf by its scent, no matter what state I’m in. But right now that’s not the case and I believe that I’ve my uncle’s pack to thank for that. From what I can tell the city has been bombed with pure undiluted silver or his pack is utilizing the silver inside of their weapons to mask their scents.
Vampires are allergic to it and it messes with their sense of smell. This makes it a lot easier for me to get through the city undetected. Plus, I’ve been utilizing the many dark alleyways that this city has to offer.
They are terrifying and creepy looking. Not to mention the constant stench that seems to cling to the brick walls, the black concrete, and the tall green wire-mesh trash cans. Most of those are overpopulated with countless amounts of trash bags and inside those bags host a really potent foul stench of blood.
I don’t even want to begin to wonder why it smells that the way that it smells. This experience is way past the point of nerve-wracking. There is no point in making matters worst.
I stop when the strong woodsy aroma mingled with many distinctive scent starts to boom. My wolf begins to pace excitedly within me. We're getting closer. From the smell of things, the pack is moving in closer. Most likely on this street.
I take one big whiff of the air just to make sure. They and most certainly in this direction but that’s not the only scent that invades my senses... The fresh scent of apple cinnamon and sweet honey lemons wraps around me like a warm blanket, almost catching me off guard. Almost.
It’s human. Two humans to be exact, and they are fairly close I think to myself. I know for a fact, that they are alone. Now, why would humans be roaming free throughout the city? It’s dangerous, extremely dangerous.
Soon, two running humans comes into view. A human girl and a human boy. The girl has stylishly short brown hair that covers her entire forehead. She looks like she’s freezing to death, wearing nothing but a white and black lace and dotted mesh top, matching bottom and headpiece. Poor thing.
The warmth in her brown eyes burns so bright, even a human could see them glowing from standing right here.
The human boy, on the other hand, is a completely different story. A human can be over a hundred miles away and will still be able to see his abnormally brilliant greens eyes. He’s handsome, extremely good-looking.
Officially, proven just about every supernatural creature wrong who believes that humans incapable of being better looking than them. From what I can see, this human looks better than most werewolves. He also hosts the compatibility to compete against an Alpha, when it comes to the looks department.
He has a heart-shaped face, golden sun-kissed hair, and a well-toned muscular body. Wow! That is all I can say... Wow!
Now, this most certainly catches me by surprise. As he draws closer I’m able to pinpoint that he is the host of the lemon and honey scent. My, Goddess! He even smells delicious. They still haven’t noticed me yet, but that well all change within a second.
The both of them stop directly in front of me, damn near jumping back with wide eyes, obviously startled. But the human boy quickly recovers.
“Hey, you have to get out of the City,” he says. “Come with us. It’s not safe here.”
Awe... How sweet? Good looks and charming this human boy is the entire package.
“Stop acting like a hormonal teenager pup, Embry,” growls my wolf. “Keep your eye on the prize,” she reminds me of my mate.
“Sorry,” I quickly apologize. She’s right.
“Let’s go, Alec,” says the human girl, through chattered teeth. “We don’t have time to take on strays. It’s only a matter of time before the vampires kill them. We have to go,” she advises and starts to tug on his arms.
“No one gets left behind,” responds the boy that I now know to be Alec. He pulls his arm away from her and turns to face her. “She’s human. We have to stick together.”
Human? He believes I’m human. “Of course he does Embry,” explains my wolf.
“We don’t even know her,” argues the girl. “Just look at her,” she shouts holding out her hand in my direction. “She doesn’t even know how to speak.”
“Stop it, Samantha,” spits Alec.
I’m just stuck in place, quietly watching their exchange. They are fascinating to me. I mean, of course, I’ve seen humans before but not up this close and personal.
It’s not like humans run around freely, arguing with each other out in the opening on a daily.
“Stop what, Alec,” asked Samantha. “You want me to not speak the truth. We don’t know her! I’ve never seen her before in any of the estates, have you?”
“No I don’t,” he admits walking over towards me. “I’m Alec. What’s your name?”
“Embry,” I tell him. “I’m Embry,”
“Nice to meet you, Embry. Now, I know you don’t know us, and we don’t know you. But you have to come with us.
“I can’t?” I tell him. “I’ve got to replace the Kings penthouse.”
“She’s obviously lost her mind,” says Samantha.
“You can’t go there,” express Alec, while taking a step closer. “The vampires were attacked by humans that turn into wolves. If you go there you will die.”
I flinch from his unexpected words.
“I have no other choice,” I respond, walking around him.
“Yes, you do,” says Alec, grabbing my hand in attempts to prevent me from running off. “Please come with us.”
“I'm sorry, I can’t,” I tell him while staring into his brilliant green eyes. “Now please let me go.”
“You heard her, Alec let her go,” Samantha suggests.
Alec doesn’t let me go right away. He continues to hold onto me. I have to admit that I admire his persistence. It warms my heart to know that everyone living inside of this wicked world is not all wicked.
I wish I could go with him. I really do. But I can’t.
“Very well then,” he says letting go of my hand. “It was really nice to meet you,”
“Same to you,” I say, walking away. I can feel both of their eyes on me as I emerge from the alleyway.
“Good luck,” my sensitive ears pick up on Alec saying. “You’re going to need it.”
