Upon hearing this, a look of shock crossed Nina's face.

Scott hung up after finishing his words. This decision had been on his mind for a long time. He needed to be brave and give it a try. If he did not seize this opportunity, he might never have it again.

"Scott, what are you saying!" Nina had never expected him to do this. She was not carrying his child, yet he was eager to step in as the father. This was unheard of.

Scott explained, 'I'm sorry for making this decision on my own, but I believe it's the only way to make him give up.'

"But what about you?" Nina furrowed her brows. "The child isn't yours, yet you're taking on this responsibility. It's not fair to you!"

She was mindful of the situation. Scott was still young, with a long road ahead.

What would his future wife think? What about his family? She could not let him bear this responsibility for her sake, inviting gossip and criticism.

Scott responded, "Fair or unfair, in this life, I'll do what I like. I don't care what others say. If I cared about others' opinions, how could I live my life? Don't worry about me. Besides, I'm gaining something from this."

"No, I can't burden you," Nina could not bear the thought. "You may not mind, but I'll feel guilty. I won't be able to repay your kindness."

"Who said you had to repay me?" Scott smiled. "I willingly do this for you. I'm happy just to have any connection with you. Knowing that you need me is an honor. I wouldn't want it any other way."

At this point, Nina felt a great deal of guilt towards him. She had never considered turning to Scott for help. She wanted to avoid owing him any favors.

She knew he liked her, so she should not get him involved. He would undoubtedly suffer for her sake, and she did not want that. His considerate actions made her both touched and convinced of his reliability, making him someone she could entrust with her life.

If she wasn't married and did not have a child, she would consider Scott. After all, there were only a few people in this world who were so devoted to someone without expecting anything in return.

She hoped for Scott's happiness, but the key to that happiness lay in his own joy and contentment. Could she be the one to bring him that happiness?

The answer was impossible!

Carrying someone else's child, it would be unfair to him. She was not worthy of him and did not dare to entertain such fantasies.

Scott seemed to sense her hesitation and continued, "Nina, everyone has different aspirations. What you hope for may not be what I hope for. Do you know what my greatest wish is? It's for your happiness." Nina looked at him, struggling to replace the words. She would also consider whether she could make Scott happy, but she could not give any assurances, so she did not dare to speak up easily.

"I thought you were happy marrying Nash, but you're not. Since he can't give you happiness, I feel like I can. If you loved him and he could make you happy, I wouldn't worry so much. But since he can't, I feel like he doesn't deserve you. That's why I muster up the courage to want to take care of you."

With a bitter-sweet smile, Scott added, "You don't know. Just being with you, even if we're just talking, makes me genuinely happy from the bottom of my heart!"

His smile carried a hint of bitterness. Nina had never glimpsed his heart before. Yet, he still yearned for Nina's gaze.

Nina knew that agreeing to Scott would be easy. As long as she agreed, Scott would be overjoyed. But she would not easily agree to it.

She had to be responsible for herself and for Scott.

She could not commit to a lifetime with him, so she should not tie him down.

Ultimately, Scott would be the one to end up hurt.
