Chasing My Rejected Luna -
Chapter 115
TEGAN'S
P.O.V
He didn't take the news as badly as I did. Although I can't say he took it well either. He was only two years old when our mother supposedly died. I'm not entirely sure how he even remembered any of the funeral or burial being so young but he insists that he did. I feel like I took it so hard not only because of the betrayal of Helena but also for the realization that I could have had a completely different life. I could have been included in the family and possibly even treated like a human rather than how my father chose to treat me. Now all I can do is wonder if my mother ever expected her mate to turn on me the way he did.
If she knew beforehand how he would become, would that have changed the outcome of what she chose to do? Or would she still have decided to leave to keep me out of the clutches of Iblis? So many questions, but only one person could answer them, yet I have no way of talking to her. Not unless I go to the Underground and pray to the goddess Iblis is feeling some type of way. But in reality, why would he? That's risking one of his most powerful assassins with coming to the reality that her sacrifice was now meaningless and not only am I in danger but the grandson she doesn't even know she has is in even more danger. He wouldn't risk her replaceing out who I really am. It wouldn't only put his business in jeopardy but also any of his plans to use them against us.
I could reach out to Lucy and try to get her to get a message across. But even then, I don't know if I can trust her either. Her motives are unclear. I wasn't even sure if she knew who she was working for. But she was the only one that could do it. Maybe my best friend was still there somewhere? All I could do was try, right?
I had already made up my mind as I was walking to her room. It was about time that her choices were exposed and for me to try to figure out what was going on in that head of hers.
I raised my hand to knock on the door when a sudden draft of air swirled around opening it before my hand came down.
It creaked open, nothing but darkness peeped through.
"Come in, Tegan." Her voice echoed off the walls.
I entered even though a chill ran down my body. She has changed so much that I don't even know how to respond to her most days anymore.
"Lucy, where are you?" I asked as I entered.
"In bed, obviously." She replied.
I looked at my watch, it was now close to 2 in the afternoon.
"If you were sleeping, how'd you know I was at the door?"
"Moon sisters, remember? I know anytime you're near, just like you'd know if I was creeping on you as you do me." She responded as she threw the covers off, sitting up in bed. "I figured you'd have been here a lot sooner after you saw me at the Underground. But yet you didn't come. Why?" She asked as she turned her head to examine me.
Of course, she knew I was there, why wouldn't she have?
"So, you know one reason as to why I am here then," I responded.
"Let me guess, why do I do such a horrid job?"
"Not exactly why no, I know you have an urge for killing."
"How'd I replace my job then?"
"No, it doesn't take a genius to know he most likely was the one that found you before offering something you just couldn't turn down," I said as I took a seat at a nearby chair.
"So, if it's not to ask why or how then what is it?" She asked.
"Do you know who it is you work for?"
"Of course, why wouldn't I know my own boss?" She said with a scoff.
"So were you ever on our side then?"
"What are you even talking about? This job has given me ample opportunities to use my gifts, to better myself for you."
"You truly don't know then," I said while standing up to walk to the window.
I pushed open the curtains allowing the bright light of the day to shine in.
"UGH, do you mind!? I work at night, and the sun is ridiculously bright!" Lucy screamed.
"Lucy, this is an urgent matter here."
"Not urgent enough considering it took you an entire week to address it."
"It took me a bit to come to terms with more than one thing. But now that I have, I need to know something."
"What?" Lucy asked with a yawn.
"Whose side are you on?"
"Is that a rhetorical question?"
"No, it's a pretty serious question if you asked anyone else in my position," I replied.
"Can I not be on my own side?"
"You should always be on your own side, but you know what I mean. Who are you going to fight for? Us or him?"
"Him, like as in the Demon Lord?" She asked with a look of confusion on her face.
"Yes," I responded, even though I still questioned her innocent game.
"You, obviously, why else would I be here?"
"Then why are you missing our training sessions to work for him?"
"I already told you, I get more than training working the way I do. I can utilize my gifts to their full potential. And I work for a man named Sovereign." She said as she got out of bed. Her body looked malnourished and pale, so so pale. "That's his business name. You work for a man named Iblis, which as we all know is the Demon Lord." I replied as my eyes raked over her body.
"I would know if he were the Demon Lord." She said as she wrapped herself in a black silk robe.
"I was there, Luc. I talked to him. I've also seen him in my visions. Been inside of his mind and memories. I know his voice. He may go by Sovereign at his establishment but his real name is Iblis and he is in fact the Demon Lord himself." "I don't believe you." She spat out angrily.
"Fine, don't. But let me ask you something."
"Not like I can stop you."
"Have you seen any of the other workers? The assassins like you, I mean."
The skin on her forehead crinkled as she thought about my question.
"I thought so, otherwise you would have questioned it," I said, rubbing my hand on my face.
"What do you mean?"
"All those other numbered rooms. They have other workers."
"That much I assumed, yes."
"But those workers aren't just any normal workers."
"Spit it out Tegan, my head is already hurting."
"They are Tribal wolves like you and I. All the wolves he has managed to capture over the years. Right there, with you, working."
"How could you possibly know this after only being there one time?"
"Because I saw my Mom," I said more seriously, which grabbed her attention, a look of shock crossing her face.
