TEGAN'S

P.O.V

We made it to the first house but to no surprise, it was an elderly couple that resided there now. They had never even heard of a Trystan before. With only limited information, we had no other choice but to move on to the next home. But the next home was boarded up. At this point, I believed the hunt was not in our favor. With it so far being 0 for 2 with only one more home left, it was leaving us with little to no hope.

"We only have one more home left, what if it's a bust too?" Darion asked when we got to the car.

"Then we may not replace him. Especially not knowing his last name. It has been twenty years since he could have resided in one of these homes. He could be anywhere at this point." I said as I pulled my phone out of my bag to call Ezra to give him yet another disappointing update. After a few rings the line connects.

-That was fast, I'm guessing it was a no-go as well?-

-This one didn't even have any residents at all. The house was basically worn down and abandoned. By the looks of it, for a long time too.- I replied.

-So on to the last house. Are you nervous?-

-That's an understatement. If this one is also a dud then we have no other ways of locating him without more information about him.-

-And what happens then?- He asked curiously.

-Then we get back into the agency's system and see if they have any trails for each individual and where the last homes were.-

-Why didn't y'all do that before going on this wild goose chase?-

-That's a good question. We probably should've. I guess we just got excited about figuring out what our Mom was doing that we jumped the gun.- I admitted.

I felt a little slow for jumping the gun. What was I thinking? These were homes from twenty years ago. Why didn't we follow a trail?

"I did look into other possible homes afterward," Fredrick said, interrupting us.

"It was a no-go?" I asked.

"Obviously," He huffed out. "They weren't foster care children therefore they had no trail. Once the adoptive family officially took their child, that was it. So there was only one address for them on file."

-Why didn't you look into who his parents were?- Ezra asked.

-The file Mom had was very vague and didn't give out that information. So we didn't have that to go off of.-

-She didn't choose the family?-

-No. She thought if she didn't know where he went or who had him that he was safer.-

-How do you know that?-

-Our Dad.- I replied as we pulled up to the last home's address.

"We here, let's get this embarrassing shit over with, shall we?" Darion said.

-Looks like we are here. I'll call you back probably sooner than you think.- I said with a laugh. -What home are you at this time?- He asked. Just as he did with the other two homes as well.

Once I gave him the address we said our goodbyes before the call was disconnected.

"Ready?" Fredrick asked, looking back at me.

"Let's get this over with," I replied, opening the car door.

The house looked so welcoming. Fake flowers were in planters, next to the front door. The home was bright and the lawn was kept up. As we got to the door Darion used the knocker to knock twice. We waited for a minute before he knocked again. When nobody answered we decided to go ahead and leave. As we were retreating to the car I dialed up Ezra. As soon as he answered the phone line the door opened, and a woman in her 40s stood in the doorway. Her eyes shone bright with a big smile on her face, a little too welcoming if you asked me, but everyone is different.

"How may I help you?" She asked, looking between us all.

"My name is Fredrick Declan. This is my older brother Darion, and my younger sister Tegan. We were wondering if you possibly had a few minutes to answer a few questions?"

"Sure dear, would y'all like to come in?"

She was just going to invite total strangers into her home?

"That would be lovely," Darion said with his charming smile spread on his face.

I swear that guy would stick his dick in any hole if he could. He was a sick disgusting man with no limitations.

I slid my phone into my bag as I walked to the door. When passing the doorway a feeling washed over me that felt similar to dread. But that made no sense. Why would I feel dread when I hadn't even said a word to the lady yet? Maybe it was the fact that she looked nothing like what I pictured a mother figure would look like making this another dead end. Leaving us with nothing left to replace our Brother.

"Please, have a seat. Would anyone like a cup of tea?" She asked as we sat on the sofa.

"Tea sounds wonderful," Darion replied, making me cringe.

"Great, anyone else?" She asked, looking between me and Fredrick.

"Sure." We both replied in unison.

When she left, I stood up to go look at the pictures along the mantel. They looked almost fake. But one, in particular, caught my eye. It was a grown man, with muscles for days. He had striking green eyes, similar to mine. His dark hair cascaded down the front of his eyes in a wave. I could hear distant chattering. My nosiness got the best of me so I walked to the hall to eavesdrop.

-Yes, they came like you said they would.-

-What exactly do you want me to say?-

-Right, I have to get back in there. See you soon.-

I could only hear one side of the conversation so I wasn't sure who the conversation was with or what it was about. The talking suddenly stopped and footsteps began to approach. I quickly rushed back into the living room, taking a seat. "So, what is it you would like to ask?" She asked as she placed the cups on the table.

"We were wondering if you knew a man by the name of Trystan?" Fredrick asked, jumping right in.

"I have a son named Trystan. Why is he in trouble?" She asked with a look of distraught plastered on her face.

"No, but was he adopted?" Darion asked.

Something still felt off, but it appeared like I was the only one who seemed to be feeling this way.

"He was, what's this about exactly?" She asked them before looking at me.

I still hadn't said a word so when she looked at me her eyes flickered a moment with fear. Why was she afraid?

"Take a drink dear, you must be parched." She said, pushing a cup toward me.

"We are looking for our half-brother who was adopted. Do you think you could get in contact with your son and tell him about us so we can try to see if he is who we have been searching for?" I then asked, ignoring her odd request. "I called him while I went and got the tea. We had been expecting this for a while now. He will be here shortly."

"So he is alive?" Fredrick asked in relief. But something felt off about this entire ordeal.
