EZRA'S P.O.V

We were basically speed walking down the pathway to get to the gateway as fast as we could. The entire walk there all I could think about was how I had hoped Lucy managed to keep the demons at bay. I was also still trying to think of a good enough reason to give Tegan as to why I killed her step-family, but in reality I didn't have one other than betrayal to the throne. Which, in any other case, was a sufficient reason to warrant death. She didn't seem to be upset by their departure, but it still made me question if she was okay

with what I had done. I did act on impulse.

I can't say that I regret my decision because they would always be a threat to her as long as they were alive. I also couldn't stand by and continuously allow them to treat my Queen, their Queen, like dirt on the bottom of their shoes as they walked all over her. I gave them more warnings than they deserved. Who was I if I didn't act on my word? I didn't want the image of the King and Queen to be altered in other peoples' perspectives because of their countless disrespect against the throne. "We are almost there." Trystan's voice echoed down the empty hall.

"You know, this isn't exactly what I was expecting hell to look like." I finally said to spark conversation.

"What were you expecting; blazing fire pits, burning bodies, and torture chambers?" He asked with a hint of laughter in his voice.

"Something like that." I replied sheepishly, making Tegan giggle.

"Don't worry, I was thinking the same thing. However, I would say those rooms are basically torture chambers." Tegan then said.

"At least they aren't pulling the flesh continuously off their bodies. That's how it used to be. Over and over, same thing. Strip down to the bone just for your skin to reappear and restart."

"You're joking, right?" Tegan asked with a shocked look plastered on her face.

"Not at all. Don't get me wrong, they still do that. Just not to everyone anymore."

"Why do only some people get that type of torture mechanism?" I asked curiously.

"Because only some are so evil that they have no fears nor do they have anything that they regret in life. Which means watching their memories only excites them. The point of hell is that they want to torture your soul, not feed it." Trystan responded. It made sense, but other parts of this entire situation didn't.

"So if Iblis's goal is to torture these evil beings. Why release them into the world? Isn't that the opposite of torture? That's giving them freedom." Tegan then asked, taking the words right out of my head.

"His thought was that there should be no inbetween world. You are either good or you are bad. He thinks that waiting for the final judgment day is pointless."

"So, in other words, he wants to end the world as we know it?" I asked, shocked at the revelation.

"Pretty much."

"But wasn't this what you also wanted?" Tegan asked with a shocked look on her face.

"Only because he wanted it. You have to understand, I have done everything he has asked of me. I thought he was teaching me the right way of life. I thought this was who I was supposed to be because of who I was. Before Iblis, I was this human that randomly started displaying unnatural qualities. I was a freak, and my parents hated me. They practically disowned me when my unnatural abilities shook their belief in Christianity because of my mere existence. They went as far as hiring an exorcist for an exorcism to cleanse my dark soul. Clearly, it didn't work. So when Iblis showed up, they basically tossed me in his arms. They were thankful that I was no longer their problem. So to answer your question, yes, I did want this. At least until the realization hit me that all these humans don't deserve to die solely because one man thinks it's right. They wouldn't be alive if they weren't supposed to be and nobody should take their life just because they want to."

His honesty was depressing. He was raised by the devil, all he knew was this lifestyle. Then the humans who took him in, the same ones who claimed him to be part of their family, practically disowned him because of who he was. He had a rough life from the sound of it. I'm actually surprised that he was even going against the man who raised him. It would be easier to go alongside Iblis. But instead, he is taking a stand and fighting against him for the greater good. The silence overtook us as we continued to walk down the hall. Nobody knew what to say, so everyone chose to remain silent. Soon a floating figure came into view.

"LUCY!" Tegan screamed as she darted toward her hovering body.

I quickly looked around the room to see if anyone was there. But to my surprise not a single shadow was banging on the closed door. It was eerie and too quiet, which made me believe something was not right.

"Tegan! Be careful!" I hollered out as my mate made it to Lucy's side.

"Something isn't right." Trystan huffed out my exact thoughts as he scanned his surroundings.

"Lucy!" Tegan screamed again as she waved her hands in front of her face.

However, she had no response. Not a single reflex to the motion. Her eyes were rolled to the back of her head and her body was limp. If she wasn't being magically held in the air, she would be on the ground. She almost looked dead, but the faint heartbeat beating in her chest told me otherwise.

"She is in a magic-induced trance," Trystan said as he approached Tegan and Lucy.

"How do we wake her up?" Tegan asked fearfully.

"The only way to reverse this form of trance is to break the connection to the one who placed it."

"Which means what exactly?" I asked, although I had an idea what he meant.

"Whoever placed this spell has to be knocked unconscious to break the connection of the spell or they have to die." He replied before looking around the area again.

"WAKE UP! WAKE UP, DAMNIT!" Tegan began to scream as she shook Lucy's body.

"That's not going to work," Trystan said as he began to pace. "Something isn't right. Surely Iblis knows that we've escaped his mind-controlled room. In that case, I am not sure why he would leave her body here." "Where are all the shadow people?" I asked next.

"That's the other thing. Where did they all go, and why?" He then asked. "It just doesn't make sense... Unless it's a trap."

"A trap for us?" Tegan asked as she looked up at Trystan's pacing form.

"Think about it. If he kills the Tribal wolves, nobody else can close the gates."

"There are other Tribal Wolves, his collection proved otherwise." Tegan responded next.

"Yeah, but all of their minds have been compromised, he controls them indefinitely." He replied, looking back at Tegan.

"So what do we do?" I quickly asked.

"Get the fuck out of here, that's what," Trystan said while grabbing Tegan's arm.

Tegan tried pulling Lucy but her body wouldn't budge from its spot.

"He isn't going to just let her go. She is his key."

"I'm not leaving here without her. She risked it all to come here and rescue me. I won't leave her!" Tegan screamed as she began to mutter words in Latin. "You think a spell is going to help us here?" Trystan asked angrily.

"It has to!" Tegan screamed back.

Suddenly, in every direction, smoke-like figures began to filtrate the area.

"WE ARE UNDER ATTACK!" Trystan screamed.

He quickly used his hands to push an invisible force through them as a gush of power pushed the shadow figures back, only momentarily.

"WE HAVE TO FIGHT!" He then screamed over at Tegan and I.

How the hell does a normal person with no magical abilities fight an already deceased shadow?
