EZRA'S P.O.V

I sat down at the table while Tegan went to the restroom. I wasn't sure how I was supposed to help her if I had no idea what she was experiencing. She only ever had a psychic connection to Iblis, so for her to now have a new one worried me. As I sat down I could hear Novalee continuing to talk. We had such opposite ideas that it made it hard to have an actual conversation with the girl. She wanted us to do everything her way. And although she has more information on Sybil than we did, that didn't make everything she wanted to do right or smart. "Does she get distracted like this often?"

That was an understatement. Ever since meeting Tegan, she had always been a distraction, but it was more or less me being distracted by her. Sometimes I wish we could go back and live in that peaceful bliss. The bliss of a memory without awareness of all the dangers lurking in the dark. But had we remained in the dark, unspeakable actions would have happened. But that doesn't mean that I don't miss life before the chase sometimes.

'We thrive in chaos' King said in my head, making me huff out loud in response.

"So, are we not going to talk until she returns?" Novalee asked as she took a sip of her drink.

Hell, that sounded like a good idea to me.

"Look, Tegan is the rational person here. I am more of a direct person. You and I have different views and both stand firm on those views. So, how about waiting for Tegan to return, so she can rationalize with us both and come to a common ground." "Are you saying that we can't be civil and have an adult conversation then?"

I mean I don't see why we couldn't have a civil conversation until Tegan returned, I guess.

"Listen, this baby was not planned. I never wanted to be a mother because of the curse. I knew that I could never change what it would do. I didn't want the heartbreak that losing a child would give me, so I chose not to be a mother. I had cast a spell upon myself so that I could never bear children. I was even on human contraceptives, just in case. But apparently, the only way to never bear children is to remain a virgin or remain abstinent forever. So, with that being said, everything has now changed. I have no choice but to be a mother. Therefore, I have to save it. I am the only person willing to try."

"I understand," I replied, with more understanding of the situation.

She bit the corner of her lip before continuing to speak.

"When the father found out about the kid, he ran off. And I mean that literally not figuratively. I told him I was pregnant to his face and he went ghostly pale, turned around, and ran to his truck. After he peeled out of there, I hadn't seen or heard from him since. So, I am all alone protecting this child, and I have nothing to lose. So I am here, seeking your help while you both were also seeking mine."

"I'm sorry," I replied, feeling a bit bad for being a jackass. I also didn't know what else to say. Her story sounded depressing as hell.

"Like I said, shit happens. I only told you because I need you to realize that I wasn't playing around with those stories. We have to be smart."

"Sorry, I doubted you," I replied honestly.

"I understand why you would. You didn't know the real story. You only knew half of the truth."

"That's why we were seeking answers, so we could know the full truth."

"Exactly, you also probably thought that if I was Sybil's descendant then I might be deceitful. I get that."

That's an understatement. Although everyone is a bit deceitful, she still has a point.

"But my ancestor was evil. The most vile black-magic witch. She only thought about herself, never what her actions would do to others around her or after her. Which made her even more dangerous. But not only dangerous but also very powerful. I mean she created an everlasting curse. Who else have you met that has done that? If we make one wrong move, she wins."

She had a point, even Iblis himself had never created a curse. He couldn't even figure out how to break one. So if Sybil created a curse that would never end unless broken, she really must be a powerful witch. I nodded in agreement, so she started speaking again. "Okay, so from here on out try to be more open-minded and consider that I am not just spouting out ideas. I have known this curse my entire life. It is my curse to bear. I have watched many women in my family suffer. Some commit suicide from depression while others spend their entire life looking for a way to break it. This isn't a story for me, it's my life."

I nodded again in agreement when I felt a sudden drowsiness wash over me. I could hear all the words that Novalee was saying while feeling as if I were going to faint.

"I know there is a loophole to the spell, there always is. Maybe I am the one destined to break it. Maybe not. But I won't sit by and do nothing. So when I say I am all in, I mean it, I am all in." She continued saying.

"O..." I tried to speak, but my words were slurred.

What the fuck is going on with me? Did she put something in my drink? Was she lying to gain my trust so that she could kill me?

"Are you okay? You look sick." She then asked with a confused face.

If she didn't poison me then...

'It's mate, go check on our mate!' King screamed.

"Tegan!" I screamed out as my hands slammed down on the table to help me get up from my seat.

The loud bang made Novalee jump. She had a surprised yet even more confused look on her face, but she stood to follow anyhow. The dizziness immediately faded once I realized it was Tegan's feelings and not mine. She must've opened our direct link without realizing it. It was either that or she needed my help. I ran to the bathroom and knocked at first.

"T, are you okay?" I asked while trying not to feel panicked.

I could hear her mumbling, but I couldn't make out her words. Even with my advanced wolf hearing, her words were still muffled by the sounds of water.

"TEGAN, CAN YOU HEAR ME!?" I yelled as I wiggled the doorknob, but it was locked.

When she didn't answer me, I took a few steps back in order to use the momentum in my favor.

"Are you seriously going to break down the door?" Novalee asked in a tone that made that idea sound crazy.

Damn right I am, was all that I could think to myself as I ran at the door, colliding with it. It broke to pieces, allowing me to push through. When there was an opening, I could finally see inside. Tegan was on the ground and water was beginning to overflow from the sink. "What the heck happened in there?" Novalee asked as I scooped Tegan in my arms.

"I bet it was something to do with that connection she had. She was acting off, but this right here is new." I answered honestly as I walked out of the bathroom to leave.

"Wait, where are you going?" She asked as I made my way out of the diner.

"Back to the kingdom. Tegan needs to be seen."

"Am I supposed to follow?"

"Sure, whatever, I don't care." I replied to her while buckling up my unconscious mate. At this point, the plans to end Sybil were on the back burner.

I jumped in the driver's side, started up the car, and immediately put it in D for drive. I quickly pulled out of the diner and was speeding down the road, trying to get back as fast as possible. I looked over to see Tegan's red hair covering the side of her beautiful face. What the hell was going on with her?
