Chasing My Rejected Luna -
Chapter 170
TEGAN'S
P.O.V
Shortly after the ghostly figure of the unknown woman disappeared, we arrived back at the packhouse. Novalee pulled into the parking lot like a bat out of hell. 'Who is this crazy person driving like they have no sense?' A mind-link from Uriah came through.
'Someone who we need to work alongside.' I quickly mind-linked back.
With all that was going on, I honestly hadn't had time to check how he or Lilly were doing. I feel bad about his situation. His fated mate was so traumatized by her past that he couldn't even get near her, let alone speak to her. He said he wouldn't give up, but nobody would blame him if he did. I would never call someone a loss cause, but I can say their relationship most likely was.
There was no coming back to normalcy after all she had endured while being a captive in Liam's pack. We stepped out of our car as Novalee parked hers.
"We have pups that live here, which means you need to be more cautious when pulling into my home." Ezra's irritated voice spoke to her as she exited her vehicle.
"Right, sorry about that. I was jamming to my music and sometimes when I am driving, I zone out. Then my speed tends to match the tempo of whatever song I am listening to. It's like they become one."
"No excuses for driving like an idiot."
"What song were you listening to?" Uriah asked as he approached.
"The song doesn't matter, don't let it happen again, not this close to my pack's homes."
"No yeah, what the Alpha said," Uriah replied with a smile on his face.
As we were walking toward the packhouse I could hear him talking in a lower tone to her.
"I'm Uriah, what's your name?" He asked subtly.
I could tell he had an interest in her, not that I blame him, she is a looker. But what took me by surprise was the fact that his mate was glaring down from her window. As if she sensed another woman in his presence and were jealous. But she couldn't be mad at either of them. She was the one who wouldn't speak to her mate, let alone make eye contact.
Now that I was back home, I would need to go check in and ask how therapy was going. Maybe try to get her to talk a bit to see if she has been able to make progress in healing from her past. It had been almost a year since we were rescued and, as far as I could tell, even the therapist struggled to get her to talk. I hadn't made time for her lately. I still have so much on my plate.
Especially with the possibility of dying still very much at the forefront of my mind. But I could take the time to at least check in with her. I know that Uriah had made zero progress in the time she had been here. Fear was evident in her eyes when he was near. He had shown her time and time again that he would never hurt her, but it appeared she had yet to let her guard down to see that he was telling the truth.
"So you're charming and handsome, yet you have no mate mark. How is that possible?" I heard Novalee ask Uriah.
“།
I guess you could say, I'm saving myself for her."
"A virgin?" She asked, surprised.
"Oh goddess no. I just mean I don't have a mate mark because I don't want to settle for just anyone. I want the one destined for me."
"So he is loyal and honest as well. Add protective, and you're exactly what I wished to have in a spouse." Novalee responded as she locked arms with him, walking indoors.
"Who asked you?" I heard a feminine yet aggressive voice ask.
We all turned to see Lilly standing at the end of the staircase.
"I guess nobody did," Novalee replied nonchalantly. Not realizing or seeing the jealousy swirling in Lilly's eyes.
"You're out of your room," Uriah replied, surprised.
Lilly's eyes looked down to where Novalee's arms were latched onto Uriah. His eyes followed hers and immediately realized exactly what she was staring at. He quickly slid his arm out of Novalee's grasp. Dropping them to his side as they dangled awkwardly. "I'm sorry, am I missing something here?" Novalee asked in a confused manner.
"Novalee, this is Lilly. My mate." Uriah replied without taking his eyes away from her.
"And here I thought I could weasel my way into your heart and steal a perfect man for myself."
Her response made Lilly growl aggressively. Her eyes flashing while her wolf began to surface.
"It was a joke, down girl." Novalee then said. "I only just met the man, he was just being polite. No sense in getting your panties in a bunch." She finished her statement with a laugh.
Lilly was now full-on growling possessively. Making Uriah's eyes light up happily for the first time in a long time.
"ENOUGH!" Ezra's booming voice demanded, making Lilly flinch and look down at the ground submissively.
"Damn Ez, take it easy. She only just left her room for the first time since Tegan left." He said, looking over at Ezra.
"Well, she needs to learn to be civil if she wants to continue to be out. This is our guest, and she will be treated with respect." He then said with finality in his tone.
I placed my arm on his. He had been on edge lately, everything irritating him. I knew just how to help ease those tensions. Which gave me a new goal for the night.
"Let's get Novalee settled in and then eat dinner, yeah?" I finally spoke.
"Fine. But Uriah, get your mate under control, or I will," he said in a more demanding tone before he turned to Novalee. "And you keep your hands off men, I don't need jealous wolves acting out because you don't know how to keep your hands to yourself." "She was only being polite," Uriah said, trying to defend her. Making his mate growl again.
"Lilly, tone it down, seriously," I said, realizing how on edge my mate was. "Go to your room, and I will be there shortly. Okay?" I said, trying to clear up the tension.
Her eyes looked at Uriah, and then at Novalee.
"Uriah, can you escort Lilly to her room please?"
"I would love to, if she allows that?" He responded before looking over at her.
Her eyes looked at me before looking over to Novalee. She then nodded in agreement. When they were finally walking away, I addressed Novalee.
"I'm not sure if you have been around wolves much, but we are a very possessive bunch. Try being careful about how flirtatious you are. They don't take kindly to that behavior when it comes to their mates."
"He had no mark. I didn't know. If I knew, I would never have even flirted a little. I'm sorry."
"Don't apologize. Just be more careful. We may not be around the next time to step in."
"I can handle myself." She then responded confidently.
"I'd rather not have to pick sides. Just be on your best behavior while you are here. Okay?"
"Roger Dodger."
"And show some damn respect to your King and Queen," Ezra demanded angrily.
"Well, considering I am not a wolf, neither of you are my King or my Queen. However, if you ask nicely, I will pretend that you both are." He growled in response to her sassy comment.
"Both of you cut it out. We have too much important shit going on to worry about you two fighting also." I then demanded, looking between them.
Novalee had this alpha energy that surrounded her. I bet if she were a wolf she would be considered an Alpha.
"Fine. Only because I like you will I tolerate his arrogant behavior."
"Ezra, I will get her settled in. You go take a breather and I will be on our floor soon. Yeah?"
"Talk some sense into her." He muttered as he walked away.
"So much tension. It was actually fun." Novalee said as she followed behind me.
"That has to stop if you want our help," I replied flatly.
"Right, play by your rules. Got it."
But something inside told me she was a pot stirrer who loved attention. Both positive and negative. She most definitely didn't get it. However, I needed her help as much as she needed mine. After all we had endured the last few weeks, I also felt an immense amount of tension inside. Luckily for me, I knew the perfect way to ease both my and Ezra's tension.
I was going to fuck him so good tonight that he wouldn't even remember what he was so angry about to begin with.
