Comeback Of The Adored Heiress -
Chapter 420
Chapter 420:
“No, I just can’t grasp why they can’t be together.”
“Milly is a new actress. How did she attract Howard? Is it all because of her looks? Howard has always been my hero. I always imagined he would pick someone intelligent and educated. It’s hard to believe he chose Milly. It makes him seem shallow. I’m so let down.”
“I don’t see the wrong with people falling in love because they want to. Even if Howard is drawn to Milly for her looks, what’s the issue? Everyone has their own preferences. It’s Howard; he should be with someone who fits his stature!”
“Milly is quite manipulative. It’s no surprise she managed to outshine Tatiana.”
“It looks like Milly and Tatiana don’t get along. Maybe she seduced Howard intentionally?”
Due to the clever spin of online trolls, everyone was convinced that Milly used her beauty to lure Howard. People thought that Howard, being a tech giant, should have opted for a fellow mogul rather than a celebrity like Milly. They considered his choice superficial, not befitting his status.
For a time, the internet was awash with criticism directed at Milly and Edge Entertainment. Madisyn was certainly aware of the situation. She had not been fond of Milly initially, but her opinion shifted after Milly saved her and Andrew.
At the same time, Andrew was investigating the individual who helped them neutralize the bomb. It turned out this person was an assassin, likely connected to the Serpentine Players.
Serpentine Players weren’t exactly known for their benevolence or heroic deeds. Their only link to them was Milly.
Madisyn summoned Milly to her office.

Dressed in her usual simple T-shirt and pants, Milly still looked striking.
“You wanted to see me, Miss Johns?”
“Was the person who saved me and Andrew connected to you?” Madisyn inquired.
Milly remained silent.
Madisyn didn’t push for an answer. Sometimes, silence spoke volumes.
“What are you really after?” Madisyn found it hard to read the intentions of the woman before her.
Milly fixed her gaze on Madisyn. “If I keep quiet, you’ll always doubt me.”
“That’s correct,” Madisyn said. “I can’t allow Howard to be with someone whose background is a mystery.”
Milly was quiet for a moment, then she pulled a bill from her pocket and set it on Madisyn’s desk.
Madisyn picked it up. It was money, but its significance was unclear. Upon turning it over, she noticed writing on the bill. It was clearly her brother’s handwriting:
“Live a good life.”
Thoughts raced through Madisyn’s mind. The bill was issued many years ago and was no longer used. It seemed to be from fifteen years ago. How did a fifteen-year-old bill with Howard’s handwriting end up with Milly?
Their mother had often mentioned how compassionate Howard was as a child, regularly helping with charitable projects. Back then, the country was less stable, with numerous slums that were often the target of these charitable works.
Madisyn’s hands shook slightly. Suddenly, it all made sense to her. She placed the bill back on the desk and slid it toward Milly. “You once rescued me, and you’re an assassin,” Madisyn said slowly.
Life was tough for those who grew up in the slums. She remembered the slums she visited as a child; they were filthy and disorderly. Many children there didn’t survive to adulthood. Those who did were not ordinary.
Howard might replace it hard to believe that the girl he helped as a child grew up to join the Serpentine Players and became a top assassin.
Milly carefully put the bill back in her pocket. “I won’t harm him,” she said calmly. She could have chosen not to reveal her identity to Madisyn, but if Madisyn interfered, Howard would feel troubled.
She didn’t want Howard to be troubled, so she chose to tell the truth. This was a very dangerous move; Madisyn now saw Milly in a new light.
“But since your associates have found you, the Serpentine Players will eventually replace you too. Will they allow you to stay by Howard’s side?”
“No. If they replace me, I’ll leave,” Milly replied. “I’ll come back after I leave the organization.”
Leaving the Serpentine Players was extremely difficult. After the organization had raised you, they expected loyalty in return. How could they even think of leaving?
“If you need help, you can come to me,” Madisyn said, taking out a badge.
Milly’s eyes showed rare surprise as she looked at the writing on it. “You are…”
Madisyn put the badge away. “I’ll handle the online rumors about you and Howard. My initial judgment is that there are a lot of trolls involved, and they’re all hired by Tatiana. I’ll sign you up for a variety show. Tatiana is in it, and it’s mainly about showcasing talent. Do you have any talents? Playing music, chess, painting, singing, or dancing?”
“I’m good at all of those,” Milly replied.
