Countdown 15 Departing From the Alpha (Evelyn) -
I Become Novel 8
Chapter 08
Daisy's photography team approached us, and the lead photographer called out cheerfully, “You must be the couple who booked the session! We're ready to start!"
"Let's go!" Daisy grabbed Laucas's arm without hesitation, dragging him toward the team.
Lucas hesitated but looked back at me apologetically. “Just for a little while, Evelyn. I'll be back
soon."
Daisy gave me a sweet, innocent smile. “Evelyn, I'm just borrowing your fiancé for a bit. You don't mind, do you?"
Without waiting for my answer, the two of them were led away.
I stood frozen as they posed for picture after picture.. Daisy making heart shapes with her hands, brushing Lucas's hair, and even kissing his cheek. She looked absolutely thrilled.
The photographer seemed delighted. "Great chemistry! Now, give us a kiss!"
Lucas froze, glancing nervously in my direction, but Daisy puckered her lips playfully, urging him. closer.
Onlookers began to cheer.
"Kiss! Kiss!"
Trapped under everyone's expectant eyes, Lucas leaned in and kissed her.
The crowd applauded, the camera flashes flickered, and my heart shattered.
Each second of their embrace felt like a knife slicing through me-deeper, sharper.
I pressed my hand to my chest, trying to steady my breath and push back the ache.
No tears. Not this time.
wasn't the fragile girl who once poured her sorrows into the waves.
I was stronger now..
Memories of the past five years flickered in my mind as I made a silent decision.. to leave this love

behind.
Just then, my phone buzzed. It was a message from my mother.
"Evelyn, everything is set up for you in Silver Moon. We bought you a house with a garden and a view of the harbor.. you'll love it. Your brothers also gifted you a yacht. From now on, we'll make up for every moment we weren't there for you."
Tears blurred my vision.
I typed back quickly. “Thank you, Mom and Dad. And my brothers too."
See? The world still had people who loved me.
No more tears for someone who didn't deserve them.
Mom sent more photos-of the house, the yacht, and the private jet I'd be taking home.
"We'll be waiting for you at the airport tomorrow."
I smiled, clutching my phone. “I'll be there.”

Fireworks exploded above the beach, lighting up the sky.. and my tear-streaked face.
"Miss Evelyn?"
My photographer approached hesitantly. "Should we continue?"
I wiped my eyes and beamed. “Of course! Let's keep going.
Under the fireworks and by the endless sea, I captured the best version of myself.
Later that evening, I reached the parking lot to replace Lucas leaning against his car, smoking.
He looked irritated. “Where were you? I waited forever! You didn't answer my calls or mind-link messages.”
4 met his eyes calmly. “I've waited like that for you countless times, and I never complained."
Opening the back door, I climbed into the car without another word.
Lucas hesitated. "You can sit in the front. Daisy isn't coming with us.'

I'm fine back here," I said, closing the door.
Anxiously, he explained. “Evelyn, the kiss earlier, it was just for the photos. Don't take it the wrong way."
His words felt more like an excuse than an apology.
He continued. "I'm an Alpha. Sometimes, I have to put on an act in business and social events. If you get upset every time, it'll be exhausting..."
"I get it. Just drive."
I cut him off, my voice flat.
The cold from the beach still clung to me, and all I wanted was to go home.
Lucas hesitated but finally started the car.
Then his phone lit up
na message:
"Lucas, do you think Evelyn's still mad? I mean, she disappeared after our kiss... What if she's really
upset?"
Lucas smirked and typed back confidently:
**“Don't worry. She's crazy about me. She'll get over it. I'll make sure she learns to accept you in
time."
I closed my eyes, leaning back against the seat.
Let him keep believing that.
Soon, I'd be gone. And this time, I wouldn't look back.
