Chapter 244 Silent Frustration

Victor smiled faintly. "Yeah, I can't sleep. There are some things weighing on my mind that keep me up all night. Every time I close my eyes, they come back to haunt me. It's been like this for years. I've seen countless doctors, but none of them could fix it. Just prescribe me some sleeping pills, please." Bella frowned. "How about you see Dr. Clarke from our department? He knows a lot, and he's also good with psychology. Relying on sleeping pills isn't. long-term solution. If you become dependent on them, it'll only get harder to fall asleep naturally." Victor sighed. "Forget it. I've seen more famous doctors than I can count. I'll be fine with the sleeping pills."

Since he insisted, Bella didn't push further and prescribed him a controlled amount of sleeping pills. After receiving the prescription, Victor didn't leave right away. Instead, he stared at Bella oddly, which made her feel uncomfortable. "Did you need something else, Mr. Morse?"

Victor stood up slowly as he shook his head. Then, he said nonchalantly, "No, that's all. See you around Dr. Jones."

As she watched him leave, Bella couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. From the start, Victor knew her family name, and then he gave her such a strange look. He also said "see you around" instead of "goodbye", as if they would meet again. What puzzled Bella the most was that Victor claimed he had seen countless famous doctors. In that case, why did he come to her? Bella wasn't anyone special.

During her lunch break, Dominic called, and they chatted about random things. It was mostly the usual sweet and flirty banter between couples. Of course, Dominic made his usually possessive demands. He didn't like her interacting with her male colleagues and even forbade her from doing so. Suddenly, Bella thought of Victor and asked, "Do you know anyone named Victor Morse?"

She figured if Victor was someone important, Dominic would know him.

Dorninic sounded confused as he asked, "How do you know him?"

Bella answered honestly, "He came to me for a consultation, but something feels off. Do you know him?"

Dominic replied seriously, "His background is pretty complicated. I haven't figured him out yet. Lately, I've been working on a project with him. A man like him wouldn't go to a small-time doctor like you for no reason. There's probably more to it. "Anyway, I've got some things to handle on my end. I'll talk to you later."

Before Bella could respond, the line went dead,

Bella was speechless. Dominic never let her end the call, but he was always the first to hang up!

Still, why would Victor come to her? And why now, when he was in the middle of working with Dominic? What was his real aim?

After work, Dominic called again just as Bella was about to step into the elevator,

"I'm outside the hospital"

Dominic had told her that he wouldn't be able to pick her up these days. She was about to ask why he was here, but he hung up before she could.

She felt irritated by his habit, but she didn't dare to complain about it. When she got downstairs and into his car, she asked somewhat sulkily, "Didn't you say you couldn't pick me up? I could've driven myself home. There was no need to trouble you." Dominic placed his hand on her neck and pulled her closer, then kissed her lightly on the lips. "If you're upset, just tell me why. Why act all passive-aggressive? I'm here, right? I have to work late tonight, but I wanted to join you for dinner first." Dominic's warmth lingered on her lips, and Bella's heart skipped a beat. "I'm not upset.."
