Crushed Affections (Dominic and Bella) -
Chapter 355 Are You Just Avoiding Me
Before falling asleep, Bella sent Dominic a quick message about the strange call. She didn't wait for his reply and drifted off.
The next morning, she found a message from Dominic. He had looked into it and said Victor was unlikely to be a problem. Instead, the issue seemed to be with the caller. He advised Bella to ignore any future calls from that number. Feeling reassured, Bella got ready and went to the hospital as usual.
After putting on her white coat, the first task was rounds. In a rare turn of things, Simon's wife, Blair Patton, came to visit him that day.
She looked around the shared ward with obvious disgust, as if even breathing the air was beneath her.
Dressed in designer clothes, she exuded a sharp contrast to Simon's pitiful state. It was a reminder of her last thread of dignity.
She looked at Bella disdainfully. "You ruined your father and left him in this pathetic state. Covering his medical bills, hiring a caregiver... Who are you showing off to? If you really cared, why not ask Dominic for a company? You should let your father live with some dignity." Bella calmly said, "Dominic's assets are not mine to allocate. Just like if he wants you gone, I won't be able to stop him. There's a saying, 'You reap what you sow.' If you've got the nerve, go shout at him yourself."
Blair flushed with rage. She said as her voice dripped with sarcasm, "Having a man to back you makes you so bold, huh? Your mother may have died young, but she didn't forget to teach you how to seduce men." Bella merely chuckled. "It's a shame your daughter passed too soon to learn your 'talents."
That struck a nerve. Having had enough, Simon intervened and said, "Enough! Bella, go on with your rounds. She's only here to demand a divorce... Sorry about this." Expressionless, Bella left without a word, but she felt a quiet sense of victory.
At noon, Dominic ordered her an extravagant takeout meal. The meal was more than enough for one person, with ingredients that could cost thousands in a restaurant. Bella didn't know whether to cry or laugh, wondering if he was out of his mind.
She knew she couldn't finish all the food herself. Since Simon wasn't on any strict diet, she thought of bringing him some. After all, in a place where people talked as much as they did here, she had learned that rumors could spread like Wildfire.
Just as she reached the door with the takeout in hand, she bumped into Lana and two other colleagues.
With practiced ease, Lana snatched the takeout and began rummaging through it. "Such a feast! There's no way you can finish all this by yourself. What don't we all share?"
This time, Bella didn't hold back. She grabbed it right back. "Sorry, this is for my father who's hospitalized. If you're hungry, get your own."
Lana was speechless. There wasn't much she could say to that.
When Bella dropped the food off for Simon, she didn't say a word. Not that there was anything to say. Once he was discharged, they'd go their separate ways. She just hoped that they wouldn't cross each other's
paths again.
In the afternoon, the ER took in a pregnant woman from a car accident, and Bella was very busy for the whole day. By the time she finally caught a break, it was already 7:00 pm.
She took a moment to check her
phone while drinking some water and noticed a missed call from Dominic. Since her shift was almost over, she figured she'd call him back later Whatever it was could wait until she was off duty.
That might have been her thought, but Dominic had other ideas. He showed up at the hospital in person.
The moment he walked in, he drew attention. Without missing a beat, he strode right into Bella's office.
She felt a bit awkward seeing him there. "What are you doing here?"
Dominic was clearly unhappy. "You didn't call back all day. Are you really that busy, or are you just avoiding me?"
