Obrien
I kiss Wane on the forehead as if to assure her that everything is going to play out right, even though in my heart of hearts I am not sure how I have landed myself here. This place is a safe location and I built it in such a way that none of my family members was ever going to locate it.
I clean myself and throw the tissue in the toilet bowl, after flushing it I pick some clothes.
‘Don’t come out of this room no matter what happens.’ I tell Wane before walking out and closing the door lightly
Pacing about in the living room is my wife, she is a clad in a long dress that sweeps the floor. Her jewelry doesn’t make her look too extravagant, her hair, shoes and handbag just compliment the entire look. She has always been classy and that is one of the things I loved about her until I fell in love with Wane.
When her eyes land on me she stops, obviously calculating her next words really well because she has never been one to jump into conclusions or even say things she would later regret.
My hands are shoved deep in my pockets and I am looking at her as she also looks at me, both of us obviously waiting for the other person to speak first.
‘If someone had told me before today that you had a secret hide out I would have refused, I would have laughed in their face because come on. My husband is perfect, he is hard working, he spends time with us and loves us with everything in him.’
She begins before pausing and scoffing.
‘Men will embarrass you they said, and I laughed in their faces because Obrien was no such man. Obrien dedicated his life not just to me but our kids and our future, Obrien was pure in his dealings and asked to cut an arm and a leg for us he was going to do it without blinking.’
She pauses again, a tear rolling down her face
‘But look at you now.’
I don’t move, I just wait for her to speak because anything I say will be used against me.
‘We are in our old age Obrien, we should be thinking of our children and their children. Right now we should be thinking of our retirement and not dealing with this.’
More tears are falling and I can feel my insides breaking, yes I love her. Yes I have a greater purpose that might not involve her but that doesn’t give me the right to hurt her the way I did.
‘So what now? You don’t think I am going to sit here and watch you destroy everything we have built right? You don’t think I am going to take it lightly that you are sleeping with our daughter’s best friend right?’
‘Can we talk about this when I am home?’
‘Home.’ She says chuckling
‘Is it even a home anymore when you have destroyed everything we ever worked hard for? When the only imagine our entire lives have been replaced with is the fact that you are cheating on me with a little girl?’
I feel goose bumps on my skin, something is happening here.
‘How did you come here?’
‘Does it matter?’
‘How did you come here?’ I ask again this time raising my voice
‘We don’t have time.’ Astridah says, she is a shadow and cant be seen by my wife but I can see her.
‘What is happening?’ I ask looking straight to her and my wife thinks I have lost my mind.
‘Get her out of her! I yell to Astridah knowing she won’t survive this.’
She nods her head before a whirlwind sweeps through the room.
In the rush of everything I come face to face to Besa, it’s sad that he had to be the one sent to fight this battle.
‘I should have known all along that it was you!’ he says throwing a bowl of fire towards me
I don’t dodge it, my gift is water so when fire hits me it melts.
‘How could you have done this to us?’ he asks breathing out more fire
‘To us? Everything I have done was to protect you and your sister but because you have always wanted nothing but easy things look what you did to yourself!’ I yell
‘So you got Wane pregnant didn’t you!’
‘Wane is special and she will put to bed, Yakari will destroy your entire kingdom!’ I say and at the sound of his name Besa stumbles, fire spilling to the house but I am quick enough to splash water in that direction.
‘Stop it! You know you don’t have the strength to fight me or anyone in my world, give up already!’ I say moving close to where he is.
‘Don’t come near me.’ He threatens but I don’t stop walking, I continue to walk to where he is continually pouring water on him until he is completely worn out.
‘This battle is bigger than you, this battle is bigger than you and five more of you put together so I would suggest you stay away from it.’ I say before the whirlwind settles down.
‘You can’t go back home after this.’ Astridah says
‘They will come for Wane now in full force, I need to be there when they do.’
She nods her head
‘Obrien.’
‘Mother.’
‘You know how this ends right?’
I swallow hard
‘Yes I do.’ I say looking down
‘Good, we are gods. Let Wane put to bed and all this can be a thing of the past, you cannot defile that.’
‘And Besa and his mother?’
‘She can’t remember a thing, I hope he comes out of this alive because he is worn out and fighting for his life.’ She says before walking away with a whirlwind
