Shaking her head, Miranda didn't have the energy to think too muchabout it. She sat in her office chair staring into space.

Today's events were a blow to her. The person she trusted most turnedout to be a traitor. The anger and heartache were indescribable.

After some time had passed, Miranda looked up at Lachlan for the firsttime with an expression of exhaustion and vulnerability.

"Lachlan, do you think I can succeed in my struggle? Sometimes I feellike I'm fighting for nothing! Ha ha..."

"Of course you can!” Lachlan nodded firmly without hesitation.

For some reason, the weariness in Miranda's heart dissipated instantlyas if Lachlan’s simple words had once again awakened her fightingspirit.

"Good! I hope you can stay alive forever and be my husband.”

Lachlan nodded again before changing his tone with a smirk on hisface, "By the way Ms. Lowe, this time I helped you out again right? Canwe talk about another condition?”

Miranda rolled her eyes at him, "Go ahead.”

"Can I not stay in the company anymore? There's really nothing to dohere. I just have to pick you up and drop you off every day, pretendingto be your man. But mainly, I have to pick up and drop off my daughterfrom school,” Lachlan said sheepishly.

"Oh yeah, is your daughter out of the hospital? Is she already going toschool? How about we pick up your child tonight and have dinnertogether as a family of three?" Miranda suggested.

"A family of three?" Lachlan looked at Miranda with a strangeexpression on his face.

Feeling embarrassed under his gaze, Miranda huffed and said, "Yes!We're supposed to be a family of three now since everyone thinksyou're my husband. As her supposed stepmother figure, shouldn't I eatdinner with the child too? It's only natural.”
