Dark Indiscretions -
Epilogue
Three Months Later
Jenny looked at the applicator and couldn’t believe what she was seeing. She was going to have another fucking kid. She hadn’t had a kid in almost four centuries. She didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. What was she going to do with another kid? She didn’t even know what this kid was going to be able to do. It was going to be part Mystic and part Dylia. She had never heard of such a combination.
She didn’t know if she could raise another kid. Hell, the one she had right now wasn’t doing so great. Who knew what her twisted-as-fuck father did to her when he had held her in captivity? Krista wasn’t the same since. Jenny didn’t expect her to be, either. She didn’t know how Krista would react to the news that she was going to have a baby brother or sister.
Jenny looked at the applicator again, thinking it would magically change. No such luck. At least her mates would be ecstatic. She walked through their home. She had moved in with Jackson and Taylor. They were adding four rooms to the already massive home of four bedrooms, three baths, a den, a dining room, living room, kitchen, and two offices. She loved this house, and the renovations were coming along nicely.
She found her wayward mates in the kitchen, cooking lunch. They loved each other so much. She felt so overwhelmed to be let into their world. When she imagined meeting her Nyhiya, she never would have seen this. She considered herself lucky to have met them. She would kill for them. She didn’t care if it made her tap into every Mystic power she had. She would be like her kind even though she hated what they were. After what had happened three months ago, she was changing her thinking.
“Hey, baby, what are you doing? Just staring in the doorway?” Tay asked.
“Oh, just watching you two. Laughing and joking around like always. You look so cute together. You are a perfect fit,” Jenny replied.
“Hey, you fit just as well. We are three now, remember?” Jackson added.
Jenny smiled. They always went out of their way to include her in their world. Like she had been there from the beginning. They had all come a long way in their relationship in the last three months.
“I know. I just like looking at you two together. So I have something I need to tell you both. I don’t know how I really feel about it, but it’s happening and we will figure it out together,” Jenny said.
“What? Just spit it out, Jen,” Tay said first.
“I’m pregnant,” Jenny said.
They both stared at her for what felt like hours. They were shell-shocked. In fact, they had that look that told her they were talking to each other in their heads. She could actually feel their happiness, but she wanted to hear the words.
“A baby! We are going to have a freaking baby,” Taylor exclaimed. “This is the best news. Jackson and I always said we would adopt one day after we had settled from our party life. We had made our peace about not having one of our biological own, but now we can have children. This is the best damn news.”
“I don’t even know what to say,” Jackson said. “I’ve never been so happy in my life. We will do this together. You won’t be alone in this pregnancy. You won’t be alone again, ever.”
Jenny flashed a smile. “Ok, we will have a lot of things to do in the next couple of months. Mystic pregnancies are two years. With this baby, I’m not sure how long it will be. We are in new territory, guys, but you are right; we can do it together. I hope this gets a positive reaction from Krista.”
Jackson and Taylor pulled Jenny into a hug and rubbed her stomach. They were having a baby, and they were going to love this baby more than anything in the world. They were going to teach it everything they knew. They were a family and anyone who tried to destroy that would die horribly.
Krista was numb. She didn’t know what was what anymore. She didn’t enjoy life the way she used to. She was pushing away the ones who loved her. She was making herself sick and she hated the person she was becoming, but she didn’t know how to stop herself. She didn’t know who to talk to. Everyone was nice, but she didn’t know how to put into words how she felt. What she had gone through. Something had snapped inside her—instead of the little voice telling her she was going too far, it was saying she wasn’t going far enough.
The only thing she wanted to do was kill. Kill just for killing’s sake. She had become everything her mother tried to keep her from being. Her father’s torture did something to her in those few days. He did something that may never be able to disappear. Krista was going out tonight. She was going out to kill. The rush she would get from the blood of some helpless victim running through her veins was enough to cause her fangs to extend. The power of her Vampyra was riding her hard tonight. Without looking, she knew her eyes glowed that eerie arctic blue that signified she wasn’t human. Her hands transformed into claws and she could feel a shriek working its way out of her throat. Without a second thought she flew out the open window. The hunt was only beginning.
He couldn’t come back. He was really fucking dead. He couldn’t believe that little bitch had killed him again and blocked his damn powers of resurrection. This was unacceptable. He looked over at his brother and sister and he wanted to slap them both. This was their fault for giving birth to such a defective little shit. He would replace a way out of this Hell, and Jenny would pay for her insolence. He was James Johnston and he always got his prey. Always.
In the middle of the forest
“Phase one is complete. Jennifer has killed James.”
“And what of Krista? Was that really necessary?”
“It had to be done.”
“Are you sure you know what you’re doing? Why can’t we go to them yet?”
“They aren’t ready. We must wait. Some of this they have to figure out on their own. We can’t always give them a cheat sheet to go by. Besides, a few of them will have their worlds turned completely upside down once long buried secrets start becoming unturned. They may or may not be able to properly handle it. We still have time.”
He watched the array of emotions play across his lover’s face, giving him the time he needed to come to terms with their hands-off approach. He knew the exact moment he’d accepted their roles in all of this.
“Fine. But let the record show that I am strongly against this course of action. I really hope it doesn’t come back to bite us in the ass.”
“Oh, I’m sure it’ll do more than bite us. But at this point it has to be done. Certain treachery must be witnessed firsthand. It needs to be done this way. We have no choice at the moment. I won’t let it go to left field before we intervene. For now we watch and wait.”
“Yeah, yeah. I need a drink or seven.”
The man watched his lover walk over to the large home’s bar and sighed. Sometimes, seeing the future sucked. This was by far the worst of all his visions. He just hoped he wasn’t wrong and the world was destroyed because of his actions. He really didn’t want to go out in a blaze of glory. Peacefully and on his terms was much preferred.
