Dawn's Dusk on the High Seas -
Epilogue
Life on the islands continued to prosper. News of the armada’s defeat had spread throughout the known world like wildfire. The kings of both Spain and England nearly had fits when the messenger told them of the loss. Not to mention, Jack paid them both a visit. Scared for their lives, the monarchs banned all the surrounding waters of the islands for any sort of sailing, and the pirates of the world never neared the waters. It wasn’t out of pure fear, but also respect for the legends of their kind. It gave them strength to know that some of their own had managed to cow empires. Later visits to other rulers of the known world, left them terrified, and the patch of sea that surrounded the Devil’s Sea was banned everywhere. No ship entered it, in fear for their lives. As time wore on, the inhabitants of the island lived in a sort of luxury, and relaxed at their freedoms. Few ever left the island, and there was rarely any trouble. Also, while not officially, Colton and Jack became the leaders of the small society that grew. They were respected, and whenever trouble decided to flare, it was snuffed quickly by one or the other. The mermaids, while never falling for anyone else, enjoyed life with their new family, and Alice finally gave in from the constant begging of the mermaids to let them be bedded by Jack. Few children were birthed from those wonderful nights, but every once in awhile, the nights were allowed again with Jack. Alice obviously was the one that Jack slept with most, but he would give each mermaid their own private time with him. Life seemed as good as it could get for Jack, and it was. Colton, eventually recovered from the fracture of his mind, but the two personalities had blended together that attracted Laura to him even more. They were married, as officially as could be done, and Colton was a doctor of his own. Jack handled everything that couldn’t be normally healed, like births, but Colton could handle injuries. It was as Jack said and promised, “Paradise.”
