Death's Saviour
Chapter Twenty-Nine: Noah

Author's Song of the Chapter: I believe by the Jonas Brothers

I can feel the anxiety and doubt flowing from Dusk as we sit at our ledge. Being mates allows us to sense what the other is feeling at times, it’s a deep connection. Thus, I can feel how Dusk doubts her original need for revenge and change, she doubts that such a mission is right anymore. Why she doubts this I am unsure, but I can produce a solid guess, it has to do with getting Danny back and being more of a family than simply a pack. Our sides brush and Dusk leans into me as we dig into a pair of hares I caught on the run as the sun begins to fade before us and the moon rises as the day turns into night.

’Talk to me Dusk, let me into that beautiful head of yours.” I finally speak in my mind causing her to turn her head to look at my eyes allowing me to see the worried fear in hers.

‘I’m worried that my need for revenge has become more selfish than a goal. What if trying to get revenge gets our pack members hurt, or worse? Maybe I don’t need to seek out any more pain, maybe we take our pack and go into the forest away from this place where we can be safe. What if we go and don’t ever look back? We could be happy and alive, Noah.’ - Dusk finally unleashes her fears upon me.

I can see that she is genuine in these thoughts of leaving for a better life for our pack. I can see this life for us, a one that is safe and away from this world where things are bad for everyone. I really could see it, but, in my heart, I know running is not the answer. This has moved so far beyond just revenge. This has evolved into Wolves who need our help, Wolves who are just coming into their powers that still need us. If we were to leave now they would die, they would be killed because we left them to die. No, this isn’t something we can leave behind, we must finish what we have started. We need to right this world.

‘ We can’t just up and leave Dusk, this is about so much more than revenge now. This has become about Wolves who are just like me, just like Carl and Sicora and Garth. Wolves are coming into their powers and need our help to become who they are meant to be without being killed first. If we leave those Wolves will die! If we leave the world will never change. I love you Dusk and I know you are worried, trust me I understand, but this is not something I am willing to run from. If I’m unwilling to run than our pack will be just as unwilling. We need to finish what you started.’ - I explain to her and I know I am reaching her as her eyes deepen while she goes into her thoughts.

Silence falls over us temporarily as Dusk thinks it through, I know we won’t be running away. I know Dusk is afraid but she will step into who she is meant to be and I will be by her side to do so. We will bring change.

‘You’re right, this is about more than just revenge now. This is about saving Wolves who will be slaughtered, our Wolves. This is about righting the wrong that is the fear our kind bring, and not just with the white-furs. We need to make a daring move, we need to get the ball really rolling so no one else must die from either side. Three more targets and then we can be done with killing.’ - Dusk tells me before we turn our muzzles to the sky and let out howls of agreement.

Our voices intertwin, soon howls reach us from deep within the forest. Our pack is joining in on our song even though they are not here with us. This moment fills me with a sense of pure joy as this is a life I never thought I would be living, yet here I am. I have a strong mate, and I am a strong alpha of a strong pack, I am truly happy. I have moved on from the sorrows I once faced, I have found the place I belong, and I will fight tooth plus nail to keep it alive.

‘We should get back and fill the pack in on the plan.’ - Dusk tells me as I lick her cheek

‘Do tell what this plan is?’ - I joke as she sends me a little stink eye before nudging my shoulder as we lick each other.

‘Let’s run and I’ll fill you in on the way.’ - Dusk ushers as we both take off into the forest once again.

‘So, what is our daring move?’ - I pant into my mind as we run, Dusk’s huffing voice responds to me.

‘You, Danny, Sicora, and Garth will go to the school tomorrow and lure the meathead from Crane’s pack out into the forest. You will lead him right to me. We will give him the option of dying when he chooses such an option we will send a picture of his corpse with a little message to Caroling who will freak out and show it to Crane. This will shake them up because it is another attack close to home. This will provoke them, I’m beating on them wanting revenge on Danny since the picture will come from his phone and because of that the next day Sicora and Garth will attend school with you. Crane will try to retaliate against Danny which is why Lily will create a tunnel underground into the forest by the school. You will cool his skin and keep it cool while I create a fire tornado to allow him to escape into the tunnel which shall close behind him, he will get away unharmed. This will be our true moment as it should put fear into their hearts and souls. They will either surrender to me or the big bad alpha will really come out at this many attacks on his pack. The pack at this point must already doubt him.’ - Dusk explains to me as we run, I listen to her plan picturing it as it falls together.

It is a good plan, a solid one that I agree with. I can sense her unhappiness about having to send us back to the school and into the way of harm, but, she trusts my strength and she knows it is necessary to give us the outcome that we need in this. This plan will work the way we want it to, I can already say that much in confidence. When we return home, the pack is already waiting in the living room, waiting for us and our plan as though they can also sense our thoughts and feelings. Perhaps as our pack-mates maybe they can as they are connected to us. When we are done explaining it is out turn to listen as our pack-mates want to add to the idea.

“This is a good solid plan. I can add some poison into the tornado and Garth can provide the oxygen you need to get it really going but keep it contained from burning anything around it.” Sicora speaks excitedly from the floor in front of the fire where she leans against Garth’s chest.

Dusk and I nod at such an idea as overall it will add to the plan. Everyone also agrees with it, for the most part.

“I’m trusting you guys not to kill me, but this is going to be so cool,” Danny adds before he and Cassie walk off together.

Soon we are heading off to bed to prepare for the chain of events we are about to set into motion. When everyone has left it leaves Dusk and I standing over the couches.

“If this plan gets any of us killed I won’t be able to handle it, Noah. I can handle killing, I really can. I can’t handle the death of any more people I care about, I’ll snap.” Dusk whispers to me.

“They can do this Dusk, we can do this. I have faith in that, we have to trust in and believe in our pack mates.” I explain as Dusk looks at me.

We embrace, and I lend Dusk some of my confidence hoping that it will help my words be true.
