Chapter 2 Consider It A Gift For You

The sarcasm in Colton’s eyes was undisguised, as he couldn’t believe that Francesca, who had used every means to marry him, would give up everything she had now. Needless to say, the content of the divorce agreement was absurdly ridiculous. Apart from requesting the dissolution of the marriage, it demanded nothing else. How is that possible for someone as greedy as Francesca? Francesca tightly gripped the quilt in her hand. She looked straight at Colton as she uttered slowly, “I harbor no hidden agendas, Colton. Everything I once owed you has been returned.” I don’t love you anymore. She didn’t say the words out loud, but somehow, Colton managed to read the intention in her eyes. An inexplicable emotion caused Colton’s gaze to darken. He strode forward, his deep eyes boiling with anger, threatening to engulf Francesca with their rage. Long fingers lifted Francesca’s chin, and a puff of smoke was blown onto her face, causing her to turn her head away and cough a few times. Upon seeing the woman’s wretched appearance, Colton couldn’t help but curve his lips into a smile. He picked up the pen on the table and said, “Do you really think I won’t sign it?” Francesca coughed, choking on her sobs. She silently returned his stare without saying a word. Upon seeing the situation, Colton sneered coldly. Isn’t she just playing hard to get? He quickly signed his own name and said, “I hope you really honor our agreement.” He knew that even if Francesca was willing, Beckman Group would not allow her to actually divorce him. The agreement was probably just a trick to threaten him. Still, he didn’t want to indulge Francesca. After signing the divorce agreement, he casually tossed it on the ground. After some thought, he took out a card from his wallet and tossed it onto Francesca, saying, “Consider this money as compensation for this past year…” His expression grew increasingly unpleasant as he softly uttered two words, “Hardship fee.” After Colton left, the bedroom became completely quiet. An unknown amount of time later, Francesca, who had been as still as a doll, finally stretched out her trembling hands and grasped the card. Her eyes gradually reddened, and she bit her lower lip tightly. Tears silently slid down her pale cheeks. The sharp edge of the card sliced through her palm, and a dark red bead of blood rolled down. The piercing pain compelled her to instinctively release her grip. Gradually lowering herself, Francesca reclined on the bed and let out a cry of anguish, her voice echoing through the room. After leaving the villa, Colton went to a condominium nearest to the company and only returned to the Zeller manor after getting some sleep. Today was the day to visit his grandfather, Phillip Zeller. Colton thought he would see Francesca’s familiar, slender figure at the manor, but after looking around, he realized she was nowhere to be found. He didn’t take it to heart and casually asked the housekeeper, Queenie, “Where’s Mrs. Zeller?” Queenie paused and looked carefully at Colton. “Mrs. Zeller hasn’t arrived yet. Should I…?” “That’s not necessary,” Colton replied simply, then he entered the house. After retiring from Zeller Group, Phillip fell in love with gardening. He was presently watering the flowers in the courtyard. Glancing behind him, Phillip’s face darkened. “Where’s your wife?” “I don’t know,” Colton answered casually. “I stayed at the condominium last night.” After a good night’s sleep, he had already put the divorce agreement out of his mind, confident that Francesca would not dare to divorce him. “D*mn it!” Phillip scolded angrily. Usually, Francesca would come to the Zeller manor early, carrying bags filled with things she had carefully prepared. If it weren’t for the trouble this rascal in front of me had caused, how could she possibly not show up? Not wanting to scold his grandson in front of everyone, Phillip said darkly, “Come upstairs with me.” The two of them entered the study together.
